The 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread

Buster Onley was on WFAN today talking about trade rumors, when asked about the Red Sox he said that the FO says they're not going to do anything yet from people in other FO are saying they're looking to make a big move (ala Nomar deal).

He said that FL has sent most of their scouts to Sox minor league games and when asked if there was one player that no one is mentioning that could be traded he said (clearly speculating) that Miguel Cabrera to the Red Sox wouldn't surprise him.

Now I know it is just speculation but since the Sox don't have a game tonight at least this will give us something to talk about. Getting Miggy would be huge and I think the Sox have players in the minors to get the job done. The Marlins need a CF and the Sox have Adam Stern, Wily Mo Pena, David Murphy, Brandon Moss or Jacoby Ellisbury in their system. Also the Marlins liked Craig Hansen and as much as I like Hansen I'd include him in a deal for Miggy. I think one of the CFers, Hansen and a possible prospect pitcher could get the job done.

Then the Sox could move Miggy to RF or 3rd base and trade Lowell/Nixon for a pitcher.

I don't think anyone on the Marlins being traded would surprise me. I can't even begin to dream about Cabrera playing in Boston.

You and me both. It would be amazing. But it's a pipe dream right now. Although I'm sure PatsyFan is drooling over the possible thought of him here.

Ehhh I don't see the Marlins trading Cabrera, it could happen, but I just don't see that happening. I think the Red Sox will land some pitching help, maybe Maddux or a reliever.

God please no, I might root against the Sox if they got Maddux.

I think there's a long shot. I think Cabrera could be had if the right players were involved. He's going to start to cost big money soon and I doubt the Marlins would want to spend it or can sign him long term.

Cabrera to the Red Sox?

Oh my god... I'd trade just about anyone in the organization for Miguel. Just think about Cabrera, Ortiz, Ramirez in the middle of the lineup...

In all seriousness I doubt the Marlins are going to trade him, and even if they decided to, I believe he would be far too pricey for the front office. I would trade Papelbon + prospects for him though, no doubt about it.

Bad loss. The Sox haven't played good baseball since the 2nd to last game before the All Star break. They better get their heads out of their butts and start to play baseball.

I'm wondering if it's time to bench Nixon in favor of Wily Mo now. Nixon has been horrible for months now and I know he's hitting .294 but it's the weakest .294 I've seen in my life. Oh and drop Varitek down in the order too.

I'm thrilled to get the first game.I always feel uneasy now playing the Sox after that a** kicking they gave us in the playoffs a couple years ago.Manny and David gave me nightmares after that series.Taking 2 out of 3 from Boston would be awsome, after this we go home for 3 games against the A's and 4 against Texas.

Boston usually beats the Angels, especially in Fenway. The next two days of pitching match ups (Beckett vs. Weaver and Schilling vs. Lackey) should be very very good.

Beckett and Schilling need to step it up again and pitch well. Hopefully the Red Sox will welcome Weaver to the big leagues tomorrow.

I gotta tell ya I'm feeling pretty good about our chances. We're hitting .370 for the month of July(17-5).Also I'll put ours starters up against anybody. You are right this should be fun the next 2 games, great pitching match-ups.I can't say enough about Jaun Rivera, the man is on FIRE.

I really wouldn't worry about it. This team is primed for a late season explosion, we are built for the stretch run, not the dog days of summer.

Keep trying to convince yourself that you have a pitching staff to do anything in the playoffs, IF you even get there.
