The 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread

Good news: Yankees lost so the Sox didn't lose any ground.

Bad news: White Sox lost so the Red Sox are 1 game out of the WC.

I hate to say it but I think we may be chasing the White Sox now.. We have been brutal lately, we need a Dodger like streak to start..

I agree. But the Yankees play the White Sox now, and the Angels after...Boston plays KC and then Baltimore. The Sox have a golden oppurtunity to gain some ground. That all, of course, would mean they need to start playing better.

The Red Sox are basically being handed first place back due to the teams they're playing and the teams the Yankees are (not saying the Yankees aren't good but its highly unlikely that the Yankees are go 5-0 against CHI and LAA while the Sox SHOULD go 5-0).

The starters have to go deeper into the games and the offense has to just blow out these crappy teams so the bullpen can't be a factor.

IMO four reasons the Red Sox take the divison

1- David Ortiz
2- Josh Beckett
3- Curt Schilling
4- Manny Ramirez

Pitching wins championships and you have two of the very best there are

While it's definitely true while you win with pitching, Beckett hasn't pitched up to his potential. He's experienced a rocky transition from the NL to the AL. If he steps it up and returns to form of say the Beckett we saw with the Marlins, then the Red Sox will be very dangerous.

Either way though, the bullpen minus Papelbon has just flatout sucked, and it's not going to get any better unless these same guys pitch better.

The White Sox have been pretty bad/average since the break also. I was listening to the Yankees/Chisox radio broadcast before I got home yesterday and it seems that those guys have no clue that the Yanks were only 2 games up. You would've thought that they were 9 games up like the Tigers. Using statements such as "Well the Red Sox should really be rooting for the Yankees tonight." Minnesota is 1/2 game behind Chicago and a 1/2 game up on Boston but if anyone doesn't think their going to miss Liriano who is expected to go on the DL they're crazy. The White Sox/Yankees/Boston all have one thing in common and that is none of them have gotten consistent starting pitching. The two of those teams that start to get something more from their starters will be in the postseason IMO. All 3 have tremendous lineups and hammers to close the game but it seems that none really have had the starting pitching. It's August 9th being 2 games out of the division with a week to play than maybe i'd start thinking more about the WC but for the Yankees broadcast team to act as if the division was wrapped up was absurd, IMO.

Good post.

I personally think the Red Sox have the weakest pen and line up out of the White Sox and Yankees. They have played like crap and really need to get their act together. I put some blame on Francona who refuses to move Wily Mo up in the batting order (Wily Mo is on fire right now and if it wasn't for Nixon hurting himself yet again Wily Mo might not have played another game this year). Francona also has been terrible managing the bullpen. Right now they're not making the playoffs.

And the Yankees broadcast team acting absurd isn't anything new. It almost seems like during commerical breaks they call up Georgie to ask him if they're doing to a good job promoting the Yankees and if they should say anything else or better. I also think the same about the White Sox TV announcers though. I can't stand them, at least the Yankee announcers don't root for their players openly to get hits and complain about every call that don't go there way. And the "he gone" thing gets annoying pretty quickly.

Truly the most pathetic I have ever seen this team play, this reminds me of the early 90s/2000s. Even Papelbon looks like crap lately. Pathetic.

Papelbon pretty much kissed his Cy Young and ROY bids away with this one.
