that was good hitting in the bottom of the 8th......opposite field home run........opposite field hit, opposite field hit. deep fly ball to center..

Oh you have to give Seattle credit. They took advantage of a terrible pitching performance by Timlin. Like I said they have played very well in the last 5 games.

damn guess this team has just given up

Which is sad because they arent that far out and just need a couple pitchers to get hot and Manny to stop....being Manny off the field and just be Manny on it

No the Manny thing isn't it at all. He legit has a bad leg and is playing through the pain. That crap about Manny being mad about a scoreboard hit being called an error is bongus and just shows how bad the Boston media is.

You're right about the pitching though. You have Foulke and Delcarmen who have been throwing the ball well recently yet Francona goes to a guy who has an ERA of 7 since July 31st. Timlin has beeen flat out terrible and why he keeps getting the ball in big spots is beyond me. Also the Sox did a horrible job sending down Craig Breslow who had be pitching very well in the short time we was up but was sent down before the Yankee series leaving the Sox with NO lefty in the pen. AGAINST THE YANKEES mind you. No lefty in the pen. Just terrible managing by the FO and organization this year.

They need to just get rid of Timlin... cut the guy loose. I understand he's been nails for us ever since coming from St. Louis a couple of years back. However, the guy is just simply washed up right now and is absolutely useless to this organization.

At least Hansen and Delcarmen have age on their side...

I think the WBC had a lot to do with Timlin's problems (as well as a few others like Peavy, Willis, Lidge, etc). But in relief pitching you have to go with your hot hands.

Foulke or Delcarmen should have been handed the ball in the 8th inning. Timlin was extremely lucky in the LAA series where he could have blown the game 20 times each night.

Anyway this is some bad baseball we're seeing. The Yankees look cooked right now and with the Twins and White Sox playing each other this is a perfect time for the Red Sox to pick up ground in both the division and WC.

Today is a must win and the Sox basically have to sweep Oakland to try and stay in the race. When the season is over and IF the Sox don't make the playoffs all they have to do is go back and look at the month of August and that's why.

Willis problem has been lack of run support, they only average something like 3.9 runs a game for him, his ERA isnt bad and aside from a couple terrible starts he has been solid, there are a bunch of games he lost 1-0 (like the vert first game of the season) 3-1 2-1 4-3 etc.....

The WBC probally has more of an effect on the older players who's arms might wear down faster.

2-8 in your last 10.......just hope you go on a run now, there is still time left but every day it gets another day closer to the end

I said Willis only because he wasn't very good in the beginning of the season. Especially in the month of May. I'm sure the WBC had something to do with it.

Anyway the Sox are as good as dead now. Lester is missing his start because he hurt his back in a car accident so who knows with him. This is just a lost year.

Well if it makes you feel any better I doubt the Yankees with the world series this year

Randy 'Im really old' Johnson, ChokeRod, and the great pitching in Minnesota should be enough to end their season in the playoffs

Well if the Sox don't make the playoffs I'd like to see either the Angels or Oakland win it to be honest.

I think the Yankees have a shot to win it all but they (like either other team in baseball) have holes. I don't like their pen minus Rivera, although there's been rumors going around that he's hurt right now and Torre has come out and said he won't pitch more than an inning in a game from now until the playoffs. Torre is killing Proctor and Villione so who knows if they'll continue to pitch well in 2 weeks from now. Farnsworth has always blown up in a big spot and Dotel hasn't shown anything yet this year. The Yankees have a good line up and their top 3 pitchers could be tough to beat in a short series although everything rests on Johnson's shoulders because if he's not good the Yankees won't go far.

Per rotoworld:

"Yankees manager Joe Torre said today that he doesn't expect to use Mariano Rivera for more than one inning in any game the rest of the way.

There's been some speculation that Rivera, who hasn't pitched since throwing two innings against the Red Sox on Sunday night, is dealing with an injury. The Yankees haven't suggested anything of the sort, but today's statement from Torre only adds to the mystery."

Here's the link: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=MLB&id=2072

Don't kill the messenger. I'm sure Joe probably wishes he wouldn't have to use him for two innings today but Farnsworth was just terrible. Personally I think it was a stupid move having throw 2 innings but I guess it just goes to show the confidence he has in the rest of his pen and the huge work load of Villione.

I think it's time you guys stop looking at the Yankees are start looking at the Blue Jays. Their coming for 2nd place!
