I set out on this project a few months back, but March and April really get in the way of working exclusively on it. However, part 2 is now finished.

In this project, I chart every single throw by direction, distance and accuracy rate. The graphic in there gives you all the data you could want for Tannehill's 2013 season (and 2012 in part 1).

Remember, this is charting ACCURATE passes. If the WR drops the football, the QB is not blamed.

Love your work ethic, Travis. Hardest working man in Dolphin content.

Do you have the Cliff's Notes? And though I do appreciate your time and dedication spent compiling all of your statistical information, how is this relevant to RT circa 2018?

I'd love to see the breakdown of the 7-1 stretch prior to his injury in 2016.

Love it. Tannehill was not perfect by any means but the arm talent is just so f**king obvious.

I’m doing all of his throws. So 2016 will be charted, but I’m doing this in order.

I don't know that I have ever seen another QB make the throws that he makes while running to his left. It's nuts.

Mapping out Ryan Tannehills percieved comeback this year would be most interesting to review and debate. Would be revelant to where we are going this year also.

Isn’t it? There’s a reason his play action and outside the pocket numbers are among the best in football.

I love these write-ups! Backs up my belief that Tannehill can be the qb we all hope for. I just always thought miami has always been such a **** show all most fans see is the bad. Tannehill keeps progressing, hopefully the knee is a non issue and Gase execntuates his strengths. I look forward to more of these.

I’m on the fence with RT
I want to seem him do it in a game that means something
I can’t get over his horrible 2 games against the Jets and Bills a few yrs back to close out the season, when a playoff spot was on the line and both teams had losing records.

Hopefully the cast of characters has improved to the point that he's not wasting his/our time anymore. Everybody makes a bad play every once in a while, but we saw players that had no business in a NFL uniform playing on Sunday for this team, that let us down over and over.

honestly, watching all this failure around Tannehill just makes me sad. It makes me wonder if we can ever get it together as a franchise.

and that's why I take issue with anyone who extols the Fins virtues of Pennington... #RavensHumiliation

You shouldn't compare the 2 in those terms. Pennington actually played in and won the game that clinched the playoff berth. And it was a win and get in for either team so we were facing possible playoff team. Unlike the 2 games against non playoff teams in 2013 for Ryan. Also comparing the 2 losses to non-playoff teams to a loss to the 2008 runner up AFC team the Ravens is ridiculous. They almost made the Super Bowl unlike 2013 Jets and Bills.

You might not want to bring up #RavensHumiliation when you are trying to brag on Tannehill. He's had a couple ugly games up there also.

Didnt the guy play through a knee sprain at the end of that season?
Also you can use whatever glasses you want, getting your *** handed to you in the playoffs is never okay.. without the wildcat pennington is looked at a bit differently huh? Also the jets had the number two running defense while the bills had the number two passing defense.. our o line was crap that year.. but we can all flip stats how we want

They all mean something until you are eliminated from the playoffs.

Kind of a tough thing to hang on the head of a 2nd year QB, especially with such crap for a supporting cast.

2016 thill17 had lot of help to make playoff. 2018 he must carried this team on his back to make playoff....
thill17 is avg, you can only put so much on his plate.. other word he need help to win in the nfl....if they want keep thill17 around. get the play maker around him to make it easy or he will fail in futures.

This pretty much sums everything up. I cant imagine where Tannehill would be with a) competent coaching, and b) some semblance of an O-line.

The Dolphins were not a good team in 2013.

The Dolphins fell apart in 2013, unless you want to blame Tannehill for the 7 sacks against the Bills.

Why are we even discussing 2013? RT has vastly improved since then.

    EDIT: Typo

when you invite 8 defenders in the box, you realize that the 08 season was smoke and mirrors with a big assist from the WC and Ronnie Brown. Again, I stand by my contention that a QB who never won more than 25% of his games against top ten Ds and in playoffs, more like 21% may get kudos for good vibes, but not for much more. He's also the guy who didn't win another game after 08 '16th so there's that too.

I appreciate the time you spent in accumulating all those stats, But you are obviously spinning the writing in favor of RT17 by blaming the drops on others. Drops happen. Sacks happen. Some could blame the QB for not being able to recognize the defense and allowing the sacks. We just never know why the coaches called the game they called. They must know something. After six years of the same old stuff, I'm ready to move on. He has THIS year to show me he's more than a back up QB. No more excuses for me.

When I watch Tannehill, I cannot deny his stats. They look decent. Watch his form. He looks good. Is he improving? Possibly. Here's my thing. I haven't seen him do it in the clutch when the pressure was on and it really mattered...YET.

A lot of posters rag on Ryan for the losses to end the season in 2013 against Buffalo and Jets including myself. But you also have to remember the 3 wins that proceeded it to get us in the position for the playoffs. At 5-6 he lead the Dolphins to wins over Jets, Steelers and Patriots before failing in those final 2 games. (2013) 3-2 record with season on the line. 9 TD's and 5 Ints in those 5 games.

The next year he came up with a big win at the Jets on Monday Night Football to keeps us alive at 7-5. Losses the following weeks vs Baltimore and at NE ended our season. (2014) 1-2 record with season on the line. 2 TD and and 3 Ints in those 3 games.

The next year he came up with a win against the Eagles to keeps us alive at 4-5. The following week a loss to Cowboys ended our playoff chances.
(2015) 1-1 record with season on the line. 4 TD's and 1 Int in those 2 games.

In 2016 we were never facing elimination until after Ryan got hurt.

So by my count Ryan has a 5-5 record in games that have season ending implications regarding playoffs. 15 TD's and 9 Ints. Not great but also not the terrible some would have you believe.

I guess they missed those 5 wins and just want to remember the losses . LOL.

    Excellent, excellent post.

I will add, that 5-5 with 15 TDs and 9 INTs isn't great until you take into account the piss poor pass protection he received. That pass protected seemed to wilt under pressure far more than the QB did.

For me it's more in game situations where I mean. Of course, I am not looking up stats, but it seems like when we need a first down to keep the defense off the field to seal a game or to get into field goal range at the end of a game or God forbid a TD to close out a game, he fails more than succeeds. I may be wrong, but that's just how it seems to me. He seems the opposite of how Tebow was, "unclutch". Tebow only seemed to turn it on when the heat was on.
