The Case For Keeping Wake A Dolphin

Having veterans on a team that is rebuilding that prepare, practice, take care of their bodies and bring leadership and display high moral to the team and locker room is the right and smart thing to do. Wake is one of those type of players.

It's one thing to have coaches telling players they should do all those things and it's a whole other level when players are demonstrating those things.

veterans that play awful, like wake has in the last few years.
give someone else a chance.

C'mon. There are a couple people in this thread that are juuuuuuust a little bit out there with their evaluations.

Cam Wake has played awful the past few years? He has 98 sacks in his career. That's 9.8 sacks a year. Over the past three years? He has 28 sacks. That's 9.3 sacks a year.

People suggesting people should wake up from a five-year nap? Okay. In the past five years? He has 46.5 sacks, compared to 51.5 sacks in the first five years....and keep in mind he missed half of one of those past five seasons with a torn Achilles tendon. The guy is a pass-rushing specialist. He's still pretty freaking good at his job.

Want to say he shouldn't stay on the team because of what he'll probably cost? Sure. Fine. Want to say he deserves a shot at a ring? Totally agree, and will wish him the best.

But some of you who are arguing with others and insulting their intelligence because people don't agree that he's awful? It's...because he's not awful. He's just not.

I swear to God some of you would argue with a Miami sky because you think it's the wrong shade of blue.

mario williams had a bunch of sacks. lets bring him back, quinn too, had a bunch of sacks back in the day. to cut them now that they can hardly get off the line would be wrong.

lets put actually winning down at no 10 in importance.

Hardly get off the line? That's not even remotely accurate in Wake's case.

He's not top10 any more, but he is still above average as a situational guy. We can't possibly get 3 to four top starter quality guys in one year, so its not that big of a deal in the overall picture, financially. He isn't going to command a big $ contract.

The team is just starting a true rebuild. There is nothing more contrary to that than re-signing an aging, washed up pass rusher. At this point in his career he brings nothing to the table. He's gone.
That's really a stupid thing to say. Wake is not washed up. Do you know who Cam Wake is??

Yeah he can't have been that bad. Only been watching since 2016 and Wake is my favourite fin. Wish I'd seen him in his prime

If you truly are rebuilding I don't think there's a good case for keeping Wake. Unless you are dead set on keeping him a dolphin for life which is a PR move

It would be the ultimate oxymoron if we let Wake go and soon after advanced to the SB while he's on another team which is way less likely than him signing with another team for similar money and getting to the dance. I'd also love to keep him if he would take discount and see what he does in Flores' system.

I wouldn't call him washed up but his dip and rip isn't really there anymore. He hand fought with olinemen more last season than he did his entire career. I wouldn't mind if he stayed just because of the fact that we have literally nothing else on the edge (I assume Quinn is long gone) but I'd rather he go chase a ring because there's nothing left for him in Miami except more of the same.
