The Dion Jordan Selection May Have Sealed Ireland's Fate

dion jordan was a great pick? he has no pass rush moves whatsoever, plays 7 snaps a game, has made 1 impact play all year and was the 3rd overall pick. yes indeed he was a great pick. dion isnt jason taylor 2.0 hes vernon ghoulston 2.0.

I don't really know who dug up this thread of mine going back to august but thank you. As you can see, everything I said back then is still true. And Jordan is still a waste of a first round pick to this point. I think Ireland got a little full of himself after landing all those free agents and thought he could just draft for the future instead of drafting for immidiate impact.

I don't have an issue with Dion Jordan as a player....he has all the physical traits you want a player to have and he should develop into an excellent DE/LB. The problem I have is it wasn't the right move for the Dolphins this year. 1st the Dolphins don't run a 3-4 defense where Jordan is best suited to play. 2nd the team used a second round pick to move up and get him....a pick that could have been traded for Brandon Albert. 3rd the team had more glaring needs then pass rush in the draft that could have been addressed at pick 12....G, T, TE, CB, LB...

who would have thought they'd limit his play this much? He is a disappointment because of his lack of playing time, not because of his ability or performance on the field. Only player i've ever seen that only plays 10 snaps a game but you see him make a difference in that limited amount of time, still coaches find a way to keep him on the bench.

F this FO.

wow i watch his play on the field closely and i see nothing. when he plays end he is basically useless. there was a play when he had a free run at the qb monday night and didnt even put his hands up and try to deflect the pass. i dont understand how people are saying they have no problem with his play on the field. forget the draft status the guy has been absolutely invisible and pretty much awful.

There's no question his lack of playing time is a bit of a red flag. But, he was always expected to be a bit of a project...he's a physical specimen that needs some work...he needs some pass rush moves. I have hope that he'll be a great player for us eventually...unfortunately, what we should've done is draft a tackle.

But hindsight's 20-20

Ah yes the optimism we all consumed directly after the draft & our major splash into the free agency market. I was part of it - we all were.

What we didn't count on is how rubbish our coaches are with players, both on and off the field. Maybe that's harsh, it does at times feel like the blind leading the blind - no one seems to have a clue. There doesn't seem to be a team objective which is to get to the Superbowl and here's how we do it. If the plan isn't working, adapt. It's more like oh well I'll come and do my job and then go home and tomorrow is another day, no pressure then. I doubt if any of our players are hitting their performance bonuses.

But I digress, Jordan seems to once again fill in the Wallace category of coaches not utilizing him properly and as a result a loss in confidence which is now being shown in his game output.

No doubt there is talent in Jordan, but its like our staff have picked up a hot girl & have no idea what to do with her because they are inexperienced/virgins!

I don't know why people are blaming the coaches. Watch Jordan play, he is far from being ready to play every down and frankly doesn't look special at all. His athleticism will suffer if we ask him to bulk up to be better against the run and as a pass rush specialist he has no ability. What a disaster of a pick.

I think it's early for people to be crowing about Dion Jordan struggling. He has shown true playmaking ability, albeit in limited opportunities. He can rush, and I was startled by his ability to cover even downfield. He is a talent.

The current coaches seem to be dismayed by his ability to set the edge and play the run.

But the new coaching staff coming in next year will hopefully be less rigid in approach and will probably use him smarter. To me he is a 3-4 OLB and he is being mis-cast and underutilized by the current staff which has shown no abililty to adapt to personnel.

so you were startled by his ability to cover downfield?? HE DID IT ON ONE FREAKING PLAY!!!!!!!!!!! and please tell me where i can see his true play making ability. one play against baltimore, ONE play. its speaks volumes that trusnik is in there over the 3rd overall pick in the draft. theres a stat where pass rushing talents, ware-kearse-aldon smith, if they dont tear it up their 1st year they dont tear it up! it makes me sick to watch dj play because he is an absolute waste of a 3rd overall pick.

ireland drafts by someone's lousy scheme/book/cheatsheet of "must have a pass rusher in today's NFL", so reach for a big guy who has no game translatable to the NFL.

Same book says "RB's are a dime a dozen and expendable", so ditch Bush who is tearing it up in Detroit for the FIRST-PLACE Lions, and rely on daniel thomas.

Same book says "TE by committee" so make sure NONE of the ones we have are starter-quality.

How ireland is even still allowed in the headquarters is a mystery to me.

I blame the coaches and GM....seems like most players that come to Miami end up sucking (Ellerbee, Wheeler, Wallace, Clabo, Columbo, even Brandon Marshall had a down season here) but the players that leave seem to play better on their new teams (S. Smith, V. Davis, R. Bush, Satele, Ted Ginn, Donald Thomas, Jake Long is playing better than last year, D. Bess is decent in Cleve) Of course Grimes has been kick ass, but he had something to prove coming back from injury and he is playing to get a big payday next year. Just don't get why players come here and suck and when they leave they get better.

Hell I can't figure out if Tanny is a bust or not yet, let alone Dion, because we can't seem to develop players.

DJ was a great pick are you kidding? they just haven't utilized his potential

Then that, by definition, makes it DJ a less than great pick. This dude is trying very hard to out-homer the homers.
