how did we go from no fumbles in the other games to 5 in the 1st half
thecoordinator said:the steelers showed a "bringing the house" blitz look presnap. gus backpedals and holds on to the ball. gotta be snap bang in that situation. our line is not going to pick that blitz up. gus is what, a 15 year vet? he should know better. even though saban says we blocked the wrong gap on the blitz he knows when a d gives you that look you better get rid of the ball quick. snap bang. snap bang. you cant be back pedaling in a 5 step drop waiting for a guy to get open. throw it at his feet if you have to. just don't do what gus did.

He and Feeley are being judged very carefully by the coaching staff on every play they are in. Nick Saban is not going to take an answer like "It was pre-season and I wanted to let someone make a play" and I doubt Gus would even make a claim like that.
thecoordinator said:after watching the replay the original call was about as bad as it gets against a heavy blitz. no max protect and no slant/drag/quick out. the only option on that play was like you said, the quick dump to evans in the flats. what i found interesting is the split end (booker?) looked like he was running a go route. the thing is, it was 3rd and 2 and that's not a typical route for 3rd and short. i think they might have been expecting a little heat and wanted to take a shot deep against cover 0. it almost looked though, the way gus dropped back, that he was expecting booker to read the blitz and run a quick slant, and booker ran his go route and never even looked back, and thats why gus didn't throw it. of course the o line did a lousy job, and even though gus and the wr might not have been on the same page, he should have thrown the ball at booker's feet. that's something a veteran qb does.
in any case the play was a complete disaster from just about every aspect and i hope we don't see this into the regular season.
guess you missed the part when randy mc michael was tossed to the floor like a rag doll:confused:thecoordinator said:the steelers showed a "bringing the house" blitz look presnap. gus backpedals and holds on to the ball. gotta be snap bang in that situation. our line is not going to pick that blitz up. gus is what, a 15 year vet? he should know better. even though saban says we blocked the wrong gap on the blitz he knows when a d gives you that look you better get rid of the ball quick. snap bang. snap bang. you cant be back pedaling in a 5 step drop waiting for a guy to get open. throw it at his feet if you have to. just don't do what gus did.
Are you sure he was not locking onto his receiver?texasPHINSfan said:that said, i think Gus was looking out to his blindside so much he overlooked his right side. if you watch the play Gus was so busy watching the blindside defenders prepping for the blitz, he didn't see the corner sneak off from the right side.
