The honest truth about the Miami Dolphins

I don't buy that perspective. I've never liked romanticizing the patsies like that. They've been great during the Brady era, but they're not the 90's Bulls. They can be beaten. In fact, they've been beaten every year for almost a decade since they won it all. Our aim should be to become a team capable of winning the Super Bowl. We do that, then the patsies will be left behind just like they are more often than not.

Yeah they can be beaten in the conference title game or the Super Bowl, two places Miami hasn't sniffed in over 20 years.

Finally. Warts and all Miami should have swept New England AND beat INDY at home. This is a classic over reaction thread.

You're right. I overreacted. New England is a flash in the pan team. They haven't consistently done this for 12 years. Assuming because Miami beat Indy 18 weeks away certainly means they would've gone into Indy and beaten them again this time in the playoffs. I honestly have no recollection of Miami going on the road in the playoffs and winning a game. When was the last time they did that?

Oh and because Miami beat the Patriots by 4 a few weeks back for the first time in 4 years, this means Miami would've gone up to NE and beaten them?

Definitely overreacting on my part. My apologies.

A few years ago the patriots were 1 dimensional and could not run the ball effectively enough when playing teams like the Giants and against us on occasion. Belechick has been working on this weakness for 4 years and now he has an oline that is among the best in football. Being able to run the ball now is just going to extend Brady's career even further. Even despite the injuries, they have depth and are a complete team. These guys are going to be tough for several more years.
Meanwhile down in Miami, this franchise is still trying to figure out how to select players and not wiff on FA's and waste draft picks.
Jeff Ireland was a god send for the Patriots. He was probably on Kraft's payroll as well. Now that he is gone, hopefully we can close the gap.
Chuck Pagano and the Colts were taken to the woodshed again last night. The need to run the ball better, score 30 points, and pressure Brady. They didn't and they lost.

My bad I forgot we don't need a punter either...we have a great one

Hi everyone. My name is Steve and I have been a delusional Dolphin fan for 13 years. I have a problem. I smoke crack. In fact, I am smoking some right now because I am optimistic about our 2014 season. Why? Hell, I don't know. We don't even have an OC or a GM right now, but somehow I think we can turn this thing around because a lot of our issues can be corrected in an off-season. I am not saying that we are going to win the Superbowl or anything, but I think we can right this sinking ship and start making some real progress, and that's all I ask. Now, if you will please excuse me, I think I just dropped my lighter... ;-)

Dude, that puts you in category #2, not #3!

Actually, I think this is an area of great need. Grimes isn't signed for next year and while Patterson is good when healthy, he can't seem to stay healthy. And I don't know what you're feelings are on Nolan Carroll, but I don't think he's good enough to start. He looks lost too often.

I don't disagree with this, but Grimes is being franchised if they can't work out a deal. There's no way he's not. And yes, if we lose Grimes, this unit goes from 'good' in my eyes to 'garbage.'

KC is a good team but two things:

1. Their defense lucked into a bizarre situation in which they played 3rd string (not 2nd string, actual 3rd string) QBs like four weeks in a row.
2. They lost multiple starters to injuries in that Colts game. It was ugly to watch.

I think the new gm can easily make the oline better then last year not hard to do. that unit was epicly bad. Tannehill will break out in 2014, cOunt me in that category for tannehill being the reason we make the playoffs next year. Gibson being back and a new TE will also help. I honestly think our offense isn't far from being good

Best post of them all so and I read them all!

Ireland has kept the Pats a top of the division not kickers wide right and wide left -> our RBs SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have no TE!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have no LT or LT our Guards SUCK!!!!!!!!!! Hartline is a no. 3 or 4 WR, he is not a game changer, Ireland just whiffed on about everything he touched and still we almost fought our way into the POs..., without a Run Game for winter conditions you are just setting yourself up for PO HUMILIATION

NE boasts mental intelligence unmatched in the the AFC for years....

KC showed they are mentally inferior and that they don't have "depth" -> their D scored TDs like every other week -> Charles was insane -> up by 28

Andy Reid showed himself to be the Andy Reid of the Eagles

Had Knile Davis played the whole game KC may have put the game away but they stopped playing to the whislte and to the end of the 4th Q.

Indy couldn't stop the run at any time frame throughout the year -> of course Bill was going to go after their Achilles - LUCK set up the Pats with 7 points off the hop -> it was classic "catch up" from that point on Luck was overwhlemed to begin with

Of course KC were mentally fragile and may have melted to the Pats anyways because Indy took advantage of KC in a huge way, at least we have learned the Pats are beatable in the reg season, now we need to field a team that can win in the state of NY and Boston when the weather is horrible, beacuse those teams don't mind the heat of FLA - it is no longer an advantage as it seemed to be 20 years ago when players didn't take as good of care of themselves in the offseason - today the players seemed scrutinized year round and fear their jobs that much more - seems weird because non guranteed contracts have been in place throughout the history of the NFL.

Talk about mental midgets -> 2 years ago the Pats came in and laid a whipping on us in FLA and our D was tired out, looking like they were gonna puke, and the Pats were rolling us with no-huddle - sure as damn Belichek new our guys were out of shape under Sparano to begin with

I think MIA is going to turn a corner on this with both Sparano and Ireland gone, we need youth who don't respect them and just play man up - every man beat his man physically into the ground and you will beat the Patriots -> walk in their with fear and you will get the game handed to you

We need players regardless of what round they are drafted in, who believe in their abilty to beat down wear down and shut up the opposition regardless of the temperature

It's ALL to due with coaching. Tom Brady plays a part, a big one, but it all starts with coaches that the players truly believe in and also he was drafted by their scout team. When a player goes to that team they KNOW they are going to have to perform and play their best if they want to be on the team and go to the playoffs. When a team signs with the Raiders, Browns, Cardinals, Dolphins etc. a player isn't going to push himself so hard because they don't think they'll have a chance to win. They're just collecting a paycheck and playing subpar. It comes down to the respect for coaches and success. Can we start that here? maybe, but highly unlikely with how things have already started with coach Philbin this offseason..

Hate the Pats, but **** gotta give them credit. Had to revamp their offensive schemes when their TE's go down and they have 1 reliable receiver in Edelman. They lose 2 defensive captains in Wilfork and Mayo. They still make it to the freakin AFC championship game. The difference is in coaching, talent evaluation and QB. Until the Dolphins, or any other AFC east team can match the Patriots at these positions, expect to keep being a bridesmaid.

This is exactly on point. The Patriots have much better talent overall than the Dolphins. The difference in coaching is like watching a Ph.D. in Physics try to school a high school drop out about the nature of gravity. Our so called franchise quarterback is so far behind Brady that he can't see Brady's backside with a telescope. Ross had it right. We won't win this division until after Brady retires.

At some point in August, we're going to make a decent showing in a pre-season game and then we're going to read all kinds of talk here about how the Pats aren't what they used to be, and Brady's getting old, and we're in a good position to take over the division.... just like people said last August.

And they will be just as mistaken this August as they were last August.
