You can have whatever beef you want with 'Toine. Mine centers around the fact that he's a chucker to the core, passes the ball only when the spirit moves him, and hasn't played defense since the Clinton Administration. I believe the Heat need someone more deferential to Flash and The Big Whatever. Howard's more than content to settle for the occasional open jumper and garbage putback, and is typically at least a willing defender, if not a spectacular one.

You haven't seen Toine play this season.....I can tell.....

He has been TOO deferential to Flash and the Big Fella....WAY TOO deferential....

As for a willing defender....Toine is a great Defensive rebounder......

phunwin, I think you have to actually see a guy play (with the Heat) to comment on him....

I have seen Toine play this season. Not as much as you have, obviously, but certainly enough to make a reasoned observation that this particular leopard has not changed his spots. Let me lay some stats on you...

If Toine's being TOO deferential, how is it that he's averaging 7.4 3 point attempts per 40 minutes? That's right on par with his heyday as a chucker from 2000-01 through 02-03. If he were a good 3 point shooter, like Jason Kapono, that would be fantastic. But he's not; he's shooting 36% from beyond the arc, which really isn't anything special.

His rebounding rate is falling off a cliff, ditto his assist rate, a laughable 3.4 per 40 minutes, which is terrible for someone with his passing skills. Don't forget that electric 1.2/1 A/TO ratio. Toine CAN pass very well, it's just that he generally chooses not to.

The Heat don't need another 3 point shooter; Kapono, James Posey and (I never thought I'd say this) Jason Williams are all perfectly capable of punishing the defense from the outside for collapsing on Shaq and/or doubling Wade. They need a guy who can be effective without the ball. Or, they need another ball distributor in the frontcourt who can run the offense from the foul line and pick the defense apart while Wade creates havoc with his drives to the hole. Walker COULD be that guy, but he's not, and probably won't be.

phunwin,

You are dead wrong on this one....Toine plays most of his minutes with the second Unit and is almost entirely in there when Wade and Shaq are out....He rarely plays with both....unless we are behind in the 4th quarter....

My Point is that his numbers are on par with his career averages which is PERFECT for what we need him for....We need his scoring with the second unit.

His problems have come with his Great Game / Bad Game inconsistency this year....It is almost a given that when he has a great one...he follows with a bad one....

If you saw any Heat games....(and were a Heat Fan) you would be pulling your hair out with all the wide open shots he is passing up....

The fact remains that his numbers are on par with his career numbers and that is exactly what we want him to be with our 2nd Unit...In fact...it would be nice if he was more aggressive with Shaq and Wade on the bench.

wow - 42 points so far first quarter - that last second shot d wade took to end the quarter was money... they shot 77% first quarter

Great Performance....

4th game in 5 nights...and they put up a blockbuster offensive performance....

Riley: "I told them...when are we gonna start?"

Looks like a little surge going.....

Almost 118 points against a very good defensive team.....we gave up 114..... :sidelol:

I'll take it.

It's a damn shame we let go of Qyntel Woods. I told all of you last year that if given a chance to learn and develop in a system, this kid is going to be a very solid player. Well, he's been sitting around with the Knicks and hey, all of a sudden...he's getting playing time!

Last 4 games for Qyntel [getting playing time]:

26 mins - 11 pts [4/8] - 5 rebs
22 mins - 14 pts [6/8] - 12 rebs
36 mins - 11 pts [5/9] - 6 rebs
37 mins - 24 pts [8/11] - 8 rebs
36 mins - 15 points [6/13] - 9 rebs

It pisses me off how well this kid is playing. I said it over and over again when we signed him last year...keep the kid out of trouble, give him time to learn the system behind veterans like Eddie Jones, Shandon Anderson, & Rasual Butler [last year], and let him step in this year. It's a damn shame, because we've got Shandon Anderson sitting on our bench doing nothing right now, and whenever Walker struggles, we have to pay for it because he's supposed to be "the" guy off the bench. Let's not forget that Posey comes to play solid basketball 1 out of every 3-4 games a week. Woods isn't a sharp shooter or anything like that, but he can score and he's a heck of a defender. It's a shame. Great young talent who I wanted back in the 2002 Draft before Caron Butler somehow fell to us. Everybody else wanted garbage *** Jared Jeffries.

Yeh some great defense he must be playing. What have they given up, 125 pts per game since he got the starting nod? Mabey he will turn into something in NY, but I'll take Posey. Woods may have talent, but hes a moron....

The Heat certainly do need him scoring off the bench. When Wade and Shaq are out he is the 1st option on the court. JWill coming back will alter that.....when hes back either him or Wade should be on the court at all times, with Payton backing them both up.

Actually I really dont mind him passing up some open shots. His three point shooting has been really bad at times....three airballs in a row in one game. He is a good three point shooter....if you ever see him in shootaround he can knock down 20 iin a row with ease. Its just when things arent right...the shot gets really ugly.

If his numbers stay on par with his career stats I would be very dissapointed. Fortunately lately when hes been playing with Shaq he has hit about half of the open threes hes had. As long as he recognizes that he is the 4th option on this team, and usually at best the second option on the floor. The FG attempts have been coming down and the effective FG% has been going up. If the FG attempts stay ~7-10 its all good. If he starts jacking up 15-20 shots a game again....the Heat are in trouble.

I agree with that....

Toine has begun to turn it around and is actually playing well with the second unit.....when he is on the floor with Shaq...you can tell that it is a different Toine....He seems to play much better with less pressure on him....

I think it also has alot to do with Toine being the focal point of opponent's defenses when he is out there without Shaq and Wade...when J-Will comes back...that should change....

No matter...this team is missing a Shandon Andersen type...(somebody to defend and knock people down) Shandon Andersen is done...his back injury seems to be much more serious than originally thought.

Latrell Anyone? :sidelol:

Big one tonight....Bron Bron coming in......a nice little 14 point victory is in order here....

I think you guys found your new *****.

The Heat are on a 22-0 run in the 2nd. You are making the Cavs looks like a team that never played with each other before.
