The Canucks were busy...
They got Brian Smolinski from the Blackhawks for a conditional pick in 2007 (said to be a second that turns into a first if the Canucks resign him) and getting Brent Sopel from the Kings for a conditional 2nd and a 4th rounder in 2008. They have three 2nd rounders in the 2007 draft so they were able to turn their extra 2nd's into players to fill needs (depth at forward and on defense).
I love both moves to be honest. Adding a good, two way center who is experienced. Smolinski as a 3rd line center is perfect. Getting Sopel is a decent move, it means Fitzpatrick or Krajcek get to have seat in the press box and he's a player the Canucks know considering he played there for years. They filled two needs without giving up a 1st rounder or a player from the roster.
The Flyers traded Kyle Calder to the Blackhawks for Lasse Kukkonen (D) and a 2007 3rd round pick.
The Blackhawks then traded Kyle Calder to the Red Wings for Jason Williams.
The Caps traded Richard Zednik to the Isles for a 2007 second round pick.
