What exactly did Jackie do? He said YES when he was asked to play. Roberto, on the other hand, sacrificed his life to help people in the Dominican Republic. Big difference. He wasn't even the first black in baseball.

are you serious?

Roberto is a hero, one of the best people ever, and one of the greatest ball players ever...but dieing on a plane to help people doesnt have anything to do with retiring his #. they have an award named after him for what he did for the community.

Jackie changed baseball forever, and changed the nation at that.

Roberto always put the lives of his countrymen first...he had the kind of charachter and leadership that few people have. Jackie was a very good player, but Roberto was better as a player and as a person. There were black players in the 19th century and early 20th century.

Roberto is a better person and player..........OK, whose arguing. Fact is Jackie changed baseball forever, changed the nation, and you cannot argue that.

Then retire HIS number in HIS country. :shakeno:

What Jackie did for THIS country and THIS sport was far greater.
