The Official 2006 New York Yankees Thread!

Jaret Wright looking like the Wright of 1997 (well sort of). He may only give ya 6 innings but they are 6 quality innings. I will take it.

Well after today's performance, I think we can safely cross Wang off the list for the AL Cy Young (if he was ever legitimately in the race to begin with..)

And we can also cross Papelbum off the list for the AL Cy Young.

Just like we crossed Palpebon off the ROOKIE OF THE YEAR and CY YOUNG race after he blew 2 saves to KC (and 1 to TB last week). And since he leads MLB in blown saves since July 1st I believe. :sidelol: :sidelol:

Also nice to see after 1 bad stretch in KC the Sox are now talking of moving Palpebon to the starting roatation next year and OUT of the closers role. Putting Hansen as the closer or signing a closer as a FA. Boy the luster got knocked off him real quick!

Man if you really think that bad stretch in KC is making the Sox talk about taking Papelbon out of the closers role and putting him into the rotation is crazy. I think that even you'd agree that Papelbon is a good pitcher and starting pitchers are more valuable than closers.

The fact is, which you often miss especially with Red Sox stuff (Manny must get traded because he's a cancer and everyone hates him huh? Good call on that one  ), is that there was talk of moving Papelbon back into the rotation after his first save of the year. It's not because of his bad stretch, plus I'd love to see the article, link or quote to where the Sox are thinking about moving him because of 3 bad games. The guy has an ERA of under 1 the whole year and we're in August!

In fact just go to the Red Sox thread and read some of our discussions on whether Papelbon should be in the rotation next year or the closer's role. The debate has been going on since April.

You're reporting that there are internal discussions about the Red Sox moving Papelbon (it's not hard to spell) out of the closers role?

Well if this is the case, then I can guarentee that no such discussions have occured simply because everything that you seem to spew on this message board never ends up happening.

And since August 5th, Mussina leads the MLB in losses. So let's cross him off the Cy Young race?

Man what a stupid stat. Really showing your Red Sox hate there and envy for P-A-P-E-L-B-O-N I guess.

That has been the story since April.

Had nothing to do with KC.

You missed the boat, again.

By next year Papelbon will be in the rotation, but this is nothing new. Hansen should be the closer next season.

1.Schilling
2.Beckett
3.Papelbon
4.Lester
5.Wakefield
CP: Hansen

That's a pretty good rotation but I'm not sure if I'd hand the closer's role over to Hansen. He hasn't been very good this year, maybe if the Sox are going to move Papelbon back into the rotation to give the closer's role to Timlin (if they resign him) until one of the young arms (Hansen, Delcarmen or Martinez) earns it. Of course they can always sign a FA but the pickings are very poor, best names out there are Eric Gagne or Dannys Baez.

I think this is a great learning year for Hansen that will pay mucho dividends for his future. He is by design a closer and I think he will get every oppertunity to earn that role, next season. He was in the minors to start off the season so obviously they couldn't just throw him in as a closer when Foulke **** the bed so the next best option was Papelbon and it turned out perfect. But by next year the regins should be given to Hansen. Papelbon belongs in the rotation, IMO.

I think Papelbon is a very good closer, but has more to offer as a starter, due to starting pitching being more valuable than relievers and that there are other options to put as a closer compared to a starter.

It will be interesting to see what happens. I was very high up on Hansen but he has been a let down, hopefully you're right and this is just a learning curve for him.
