The Official 2006 New York Yankees Thread!

I'm not entirely convinced that Jeter's the MVY this year, let alone the MVP. Giambi has almost the same OBP and is just killing the ball. Right now though, the MVP has to be Jim Thome.

Thome falls into the same problem Ortiz had/has. Pick up a friggin glove! They have to be so far in front of everyone else offensivly for them to win it, that it seems almost impossible. Giambi won't ever win another MVP. 1 word.........STEROIDS! Nuff said.

Who cares if he can play the field? He can hit the crap out of the ball, and that's what the Yankees need desperately. Stick him at DH if need be and play Giambi at 1B. That said, I'm not sure what they'd trade for him if they're intent on hanging onto Philip Hughes. Moreover, the NL is open enough that it's unlikely that Milwaukee will fall far enough out in the next two weeks to become a full-fledged seller.

Then we lose 1B defense, we can't get another DH. I'd rather go w/ our lineup as is which seems to be doing well than get another DH.

The Sidney Ponson era begins tonight at the Stadium. Hopefully he doesn't get bombed out because it looks like A-Rod won't be in the line-up so we're going to have to work extra hard to force some runs home. All we need from him is a quality start and I think we will be fine. The Yankees are on fire right now so hopefully Ponson doesn't end the Yankees winning streak in the first 3 innings tonight!

I think Ponson is goona do good for the yankees tonight...right now the yankes are playing great ball other then a few mistakes...but lets hope they can keep there winning streak alive!

**** it, he was out this hwole game just went down the drain

JJ Putz is terrible. Rafael Soriano is the best arm in the Seattle bullpen, he SHOULD be closing games.

Putz has had a WHIP of 1.43 and 1.35 the previous 2 years. He's an average reliever who had ONE good HALF. At some point, you are what you are, and JJ Putz is a middle of the road reliever. His numbers will come back to earth over the course of the 2nd half, you watch. Hell, he's kicking off the 2nd half in style, blowing a 2 run lead... and he was only asked to get 3 outs.

Now Soriano on the other hand, he has potential to be a dominant closer for many many years (he's only 27 in his 2nd season).

Weren't you just laughing at me because I said that Soriano is the best arm in the pen and that he SHOULD be closing? Way to contradict yourself there...

Putz is average, definitely not closer material.
