The Official 2006 New York Yankees Thread!

Does any one else realize the Yankees have been to the playoffs 12 straight years? Have won 10 of the last 12 AL East titles including 9 in a row? Have won 4 World Series in that stretch and been to 6? I'm just soaking it all in right now. Unbelievable. Who would have thought that we'd get to live through a time like our parents grew up where evey year you looked at the playoffs, the Yankees had a chance and in most cases were favorites?

About to turn 30 I missed all of the victories in the 70's and the winning in the early 80's. I was a child during the Mattingly era which meant not a lot of winning and a whole lot of losing. (and we still had the highest payroll then too, which people overlook)

Anyone who knocks this team for NOT winning since 2000 is a friggin idiot. Seriously, it is impossible to win the whole thing every year on a consistent basis. The fact they are "in it" every year is enough for me. And the fact they have won 4 is great. Sure, you want to win more.....but ya can't knock the organization at all for the way they have done things since about 1994 on.

I think this is the Mets year. If the Mets don't make it I would be more shocked then if the Yankees didn't. The way it looks now, the Mets should have a walk in the park to the World Series. Of course I'm hoping they crash and burn and get eliminated in the first round!

If St.Louis shows up (big if) they can beat NY. They have the lineup to go toe to toe with NY in the NL. Plus Pedro isn't 100% and Glavin might have a dead arm.

I have no confidence in LaRusa though so, Mets should have no problems.

I think LAD could be a tough team to beat if they get in in a short series. Lowe, Maddux and Penny is a pretty decent starting 3, and they have a pretty good line up too.

Like it or not you do have to give the team credit. They were very fortunate to have some of the players they had i.e. Jeter, Bernie, Rivera, etc.

Yeah, and Rivera was almost a Mariner and Jeter a SF Giant after the 1995 season. Thank god the Yanks pulled out of those deals!

And thank god Tony Fernendez got hurt in spring training 1996

There's a lot of luck in baseball. More than any other sport. When less than 5% of minor leaguers make the majors sometimes you have to be as lucky as you are good.

Actually Finkle, I can't deny you that, your the only one still here standing strong talking baseball even though Red Sox have been done since the beginning of August. The rest of your friends are hiding in witness protection praying that the Yankees lose in the playoffs so they can show their faces again!

That is such a load of crap.. Some of us have lives other than FH sorry..

There isn't as much to talk about when you are getting throttled nightly.. Its not like I am not watching..

..

But when the team is winning you happen to find the time to post here. Only when your team blows is it...."hey I have a life and can't post all the time"  and you guys go into hiding. Please, you guys aren't fooling anyone with that BS around here.

I gotta laugh at how defensive the Red Sox fans are. I can only imagine what you guys would be doing to us Yankee fans right now if the shoe was on the other foot. We would be tortured 20 times worse then what we've done to you ladies!

:lolcry: :yeahthat: The only RED SOX fan in America who roots for the Mets.:sidelol: I really don't get that one. How can any self respecting RED SOX fan root for the Mets after 1986????!! I mean come on!!

It's like clock-work around here each year......................

April-May----Sox fans all over Finheaven celebrating their winning,.... well nothing yet but the big win is on the horizon. It's their year!!

June--Chinks in the armor start to show, but still in 1st place and, well YANKES SUCK. 2004!

Post All Star Break---Yankees making a move, Red Sox taking on a little water but still, claim they got an easy 2nd half schedule compared to NY.

Late July--Things are starting to fall apart for the Sox. Yanke make a trading deadline move, then all of the "SALARY CAP IS NEEDED"...."BUYING A CHAMPIONSHIP" talks heat up for a week or two until Sox fans actually look at their own payroll compared to the rest of MLB.

Mid-August--Yanks pass Boston at some point and Red Sox fans just bring up 2004 at all times.

Early September--Yanks put room between themselves and Boston, start pulling away.

Late September/Early October--Either out of the playoffs totally or in the playoffs as a wild card but realize they have no shot of winning another World Series. And oh yeah, EXCEPT FOR FINKLE..........Red Sox fans NOWHERE TO BE FOUND ON FINEHAVEN!

ridiculous...first of all I was the second person to come here and congratulate the Yankees on winning the division. I don't know what else you want me to say. I hate the Yankees but they're the best team in the AL. I can't deny that.

And I was 2 months old when the Mets beat the Red Sox in the World Series...I have no idea what kind of hatred Boston has for the Mets, I don't live in Boston. That's like saying I should hate the 49ers forever because they beat us in '84 :shakeno:

Tonight was a perfect example of why you can't blame the Yankees for spending the money they make. Look at the Twins tonight. 18,000 for a playoff clinching game. The Twins fans, like many small market fans cry poor and wonder why they can't sign the big free agents but fail to show up and support the team when they've over-achieved and are in the playoffs. This is a joke. Every one criticizes the Yankees but let's face it, the ballpark is always packed and the Yankees make money because of this (also because of YES but i'm just talking in ticket sales and merchandise, things like that). Every one criticizes the Yankees for having such a high payroll but no one commends them on spending to put a quality product on the field and investing the money they make back on the field. Twins fans should start buying tickets and pumping money back into the team (like many other teams needs their fans to do) but worst of all they should be ashamed of themselves after tonight's attendence. This franchise is no longer allowed to cry poor anymore when they fail to deliever a player to their franchise because tonight was a disgraceful showing by their fan base!

And let's not forget to mention the Twins owner is the richest guy out of all of the MLB owners. His bank account trumps every other owners. The guy farts through silk at night and uses 20's to whipe his assssss. Yet we are supposed to feel sorry for him and the Twins fans that cry poor.

And this is the franchise that started this mess when thay gave Kirby Puckett $1 mill a year back in the day, which at the time was the first million dollar per year player I believe. Yet everyone is supposed to overlook that.

Not to mention every time they win, Oakland wins, Florida wins........it just proves that money can't buy you winning. And that a salary cap ISN'T needed. That bad teams will still be bad. And good teams will still be good. And while money doesn't mean nothing, it means a whole hell of a lot less than some tend to believe.

P.S.....the reason they didnt' show up was because they heard rain in the forecast....oh wait, Dome! And not to mention that's another teams lame excuse for not going to the games.

Kirby wasn't the first million dollar a year player but the twins set the bar when they re-signed him to a a ridiculous $30 mil deal. $6 mil a year would be a bargain now but at the time it was like ARod's current deal.

says a fan of the team with the highest payroll in sports history

i'm sure having the highest payroll in sports history isn't the reason the yankees are in first LMFAO
