Theismann rips into Ricky

For the Bills fan who claims Ricky is here for the money and not for the love of the game, how do you know? You hangout with him on the weekend? I'm not claiming I know why he's back, so you can't use that as a comeback. Besides, why do guys even want to play in the NFL? Money, fame, chicks, recognition. They love the game b/c it's fun and it gives them the Nation's attention.

Theismann can say what he wants. So what? Why was he asked of his opinion? If he loved Ricky, would all of you still say he sucked and disapprove of him? Geez

I think it is funny how Joe has said that Ricky probably has a drug addiction problem.

Marijuana might be the hardest drug to get addicted to (lets not have the marijuana discussion), it is probably easier to have an addicition to alcohol than it is reefer. The last thing I would fear as a Fin Fan would be Ricky getting addicted to weed.

if addiction is the issue, then it does not matter what the substance. addictive personalities can and often do turn common functions into addictive habits. once a person has been diagnosed with an addiction is extremely easy to replace with just about anything and that is the scare once the person is over the initial habit. now i doubt Ole Joe is speaking in terms of this, but, it is something to be concerned about.

I do think he's over pot. I could be wrong, but that's my gut feeling.

I still think he's a weirdo, but the league is full of weirdos.

As for him coming back for the money, I don't hold that against him at all. He has the talent to make a lot of money to meet his financial needs. Why should he be consigned to flipping burgers?

Well ppl just don't get over pot. On that account more power to you Zoom.

We agree he is a weirdo. :D

I have no problem with him only playing football for $. In fact I think in that area he has matured. I wish he had that type of maturity last year. :D It would have saved him a lot of trouble and he would be a richer man for it today.

I'm not sure Wicky could flip a burger. He'd prob want to know what the burger was thinking. You catch my drift? :D But seriously he's way too smart to simply flip burgers.

BTW, Ollie ... did you like my "Agree-to-Disagree Land" graphic? I'm keeping that in reserve for message board impasses.

As far as the "being over" pot part, I'd worry a lot more if it were any other substance in question.

lol it's sweet and a GREAT idea!

i just read yesterday that Thiesmann's teammate John Riggins was relating to Ricky and wishing him well. Said he thought RW situation was better than what TO is doing.

Is that a fact? What evidence can you put forward to prove this assertion because I personally know of plenty of instances that say you are dead wrong.

Let me also ask you this Oliver, if you recall, there was a time when our current president was an alcoholic and also reported to be a coke user (both drugs are proven to be much more addictive than pot); yet you support him at EVERY TURN. How is it that you have a higher standard for the running back of your football team than for the President of the United States?

Let's keep it away from politics, why don't we ... but I, too, can vouch for friends who have found pot infinitely easier to walk away from than other drugs.

true. caffeine is actually harder to quit. nicotine is harder to quit. alcohol is harder to quit. there are physical symptoms. pot is not a physically addictive drug.

i was recently doing too much coffee in order to get some papers written, and when i came off it, it was like i had the flu for a week. pot doesn't do that. a person may convince himself that he really needs it, but it's purely psychological.

while i share your desire to avoid the flame that usually ensues when it turns to politics, he does bring up an interesting point about our society: we generally do hold athletes and coaches to a higher standard (and for sure we place them under more intense scrutiny) than we do our elected officials, who WORK FOR US! we can second guess a football coach, who is employed by someone else, but we can't second guess an elected official, who is employed by us? it's an important point. people really need to pay attention to what their government is doing. we didn't get all the rights we have because people with power are generous. we got them because a large group of people who have no individual power can wield tremendous power as a group.

preaching over. and i hope i was non-partisan enough. i don't want to flame.

I cannot even go into depths of specifics to illustrate my hatred for Joe Theismann

I like Joey T's work on TV and what not, but on this subject though he is clueless!

First and foremost I don't see where the league is "bending over backwards" for Ricky. He faces his suspension, an enormous pay cut, testing and the bottom of the depth chart. The most unforgiving return I can remember. Any man who changed his hereditary family name to make it rhyme with the "Heisman" trophy in hopes of improving his chances of winning the trophy is in no position to criticize anyone elses motivations.
