They Don’t Possibly Expect Us To Play On This Field Tomorrow Do They?

I just got home from the Canes game and knew there would be a field related thread.

I've attended Canes games beginning in the late '60s. This is the first time I can remember that they didn't allow the University of Miami band to perform on the field at halftime. They obviously didn't want to jeopardize the field any further. So the Canes band and the smaller alumni (homecoming) band remained in the stands and performed from there.

It was hilarious when the turf crew walked out at halftime. What were they supposed to do? It wasn't chunks, like last year before the vendor was replaced. This was puddles everywhere, with some mud. Not slop. It wasn't disturbed enough to be called slop. The only thing the turf crew did was push down some raised areas with their shoes.

Worst areas were maybe 10-40 on both sides and especially on the east side. Rain and field conditions were so bad in the second quarter that the Canes bypassed an extra point attempt and tried for 2. That was a questionable decision and could have burned Miami since they trailed late by 20-12 instead of 20-13. The final ended up 20-12 after offensive pass interference wiped out a touchdown pass in the final 20 seconds.

Both teams tried jet sweep forward tosses like the Dolphins have used multiple times this season. None broke free tonight but you could see the potential was there. Several near misses on ankle tackles, and Duke a couple of times faked the play when it looked wide open if they had actually used it. Field conditions were by far the worst in the middle of the field. Defenders were stuck and slow in pursuit. A fleet receiver who can get to the corner has open sailing on the best portions of the field once he gets there .

I just remembered that Wilson is injured. Try Grant.

The game when the punt stuck in the mud. Classic. Didn’t that one go scoreless until the final al minute?

It wasn't classic when you are giving -12.5 points, as I did. What a joke. I remember watching the game at the Gold Coast casino at some special area where they had a Monday night viewing party all season that year. It turned out to be my last full year in Las Vegas, although I didn't know it at the time.

We had a connection who was giving 5 of us many extra tickets to throw in the barrel for the drawings. Then we'd split the profit no matter who won. It worked out well for me because I never had my name called once all season. But our group fared as expected, given the unfair advantage. Funny how it didn't seem unfair at the time. Just another Las Vegas method to shift house advantage to your advantage.

Over/under got bet down during the Canes game. I checked some spots and it was dumped from 43.5 to 42 at most joints.

However, there was buy back when it dropped to 41.5. At that level it was pushed back up to 42. That was probably middlers, since the total was as high as 45 a couple of days ago.

Big advantage playing a middle from 41.5 to 45. That's the thing I really miss about not being on premises and following every sport every day.

Yes and tore his peck muscle. Also the great john becks first start

I was there. Steelers fans were great to me even though i was in a Dolphins jersey. Reason? The Dolphins were absolutely terrible at the time

Enough's enough with this crap.....turf patching, grow lights, etc. While I love the old school-ness of playing on real grass Miami isn't the place for it, esp. with multiple games being played on it, the chance for torrential downpours, etc.

Time to go with Field Turf and be done with it.
