According to the Miami Herald, "some NFL people" continue to believe Brandon Gibson isn't a lock for the Dolphins' 53-man roster.
It makes sense from a dot-connecting standpoint; Miami used a second-round pick on Jarvis Landry, who plays the same slot position as Gibson. A holdover from the failed Jeff Ireland regime, Gibson will count $3.7 million versus the cap if the Fins keep him, but just $2 million if they move him. We wouldn't be shocked to see the Dolphins keep Rishard Matthews over Gibson at final cuts
this is getting dumb. when health Gibson has been very good for us. why would we get rid of him already? I know we have landry and rishard, but why not keep them all. Gibson is better than anyone else on the bubble, and is RT's security blanket in the slot (not saying landry cant be eventually), he is a big body redzone threat, and moves the chains. people are crazy to think he will be gone.

Brandon Gibson was coming on REALLY strong right before his injury. It was clear Thill and Gibs were developing good chemistry as the season progressed and the first preseason game showed more of the same. Amazing how one injury makes people forget that. I sincerely doubt Landry will be ahead of Gibson when the season starts.

I can see us keeping Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Landry, and Mathews...Thig is on the bubble!

Funny how it works. Last year at this time people were questioning if Gibson could make the transition to the slot and now he's viewed as only a slot by some people. The key thing is to remember all this talk is coming from people outside the team.

Right now, he is our only legit Red Zone threat at receiver. It would be dumb to get rid of him and you need depth at receiver!

I will be furious if he is let go, he is very solid and appears very healthy.

Gibson played well last year and even though I would not want him as our starter , he plays his role real well and to me was better than Wallace as a signing

Yeah, I went on record as being extremely underwhelmed with the signing (I wanted to address WR in the draft) but he did win me over pre-injury. He looked good in preseason game 1 as well, and if nothing else I would hope Philbin remembers what 2012 was like when we had bottom of the barrel WRs on the roster like Legadoodoo NoNoNoNO!!!

Never was a fan of the signing although he signed for relatively little. The whole NFL shared my belief that he was just another receiver because why else would he sign for so low. That being said he played well for us and showed a toughness that Michelle Wallace could only dram of. I like him as our depth receiver and he could excel with us in that role.
I don't understand all the talk of cutting him since he doesn't make that much and is no worse than our 4th best receiver.

hilarious.

go ask any REAL nfl personel guy who they would want on their team of they could only have ONE., the amazing gibson OR mike wallace.

you wouldnt get one gibson vote. wallace just plain brings more to the table.

the wallace bashing is getting obscene. yeah, gib and tanny had great chemistry because tanny cant throw accurate past 15 yds and gibson is a short route specialist. simple math.

I never said any team would want Gibson over Wallace. I bet most teams would take Gibson a t his 3 million a year compared to Wallace at his 12 though.

Why?? It wouldn't bother me for a second if we lost Hartline for a few weeks and Gibson had to take his place. To me it would be like the drop off of Mitchell to Odrick. I like Hartline but we would not be losing much if Gibson took over the #2 spot.

like his bad hands, one trick ability, lack of effort fighting for jump balls, or his disappearing act in the 4th quarter?? Or is it his huge salary?? Believe me there are many GMs that wouldnt want Wallace on their team at any price. To date he has been nothing more than Tedd Ginn jr. without the return ability.

Everyone used to complain about how Big Ben could never hit Wallace in stride, now Ryan has trouble doing it. Funny how Ryan has been hitting a lot of other WRs deep with very little trouble. There is a reason pitt let Wallace walk.

He as been more than Ted Ginn. He is a number 2 NFL receiver getting paid like a number one. TEd Ginn is a number 4 or 5 guy that got drafted to be a number one.
Wallace has more tds in one season than ginn had in his career. I do agree with a lot of your point though
