this is getting dumb

hilarious.

yeah, gib and tanny had great chemistry because tanny cant throw accurate past 15 yds and gibson is a short route specialist. simple math.

Your response is a video of a play that happened one time the whole season?
Sorry but I'd like to see much more before I would get on your side of the discussion.

I hope they do not cut him because I like the depth at receiver. However, I could see it happening if the likes of Matthews and Landry pass him. I am a Gibson fan, but this should be watched.

Even in '12, with the anemic St L offense, Gibson led the league in reception completion percentage on 3rd downs and TDs. Nothing we've seen last season dispels his clutchness. Count me in the "Furious" contingent if they cut him; for me it would constitute a Hickey-Philbin black mark that would take more than a Mr Clean sponge and some elbow grease to erase! Brady and Belicheat would make him into the next Welker who'd be haunting us for years.

Yeah, I really don't see the point of releasing him. A $1.7 million savings? For what? That might matter if they had been smart enough to go after more linemen in FA, but that ship has sailed. I'd pay that $1.7 million for the depth and veteran leadership alone (sadly, it has to be noted that I am speaking figuratively).

I don't see him being released...traded maybe.

But, I also don't see him as special either.

I believe sooner rather than later he will be a backup on this team.

So they say we release him for a savings we don't need to reduce the amount of depth at a position that needs solid depth. What logic is this? Who wouldn't want to see a 5 wide set with Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Landry, and Clay? If one of those goes down, bring in Risard. That sounds like a good plan to me.

Funny how it works. Last year at this time people were questioning if Gibson could make the transition to the slot and now he's viewed as only a slot by some people. The key thing is to remember all this talk is coming from people outside the team.
And their motive is to do their job, which is to create readership for their paper / blog. When there's no news...make some!

I think it comes down to how much faith the Dolphins have in Gibson's health vs. Thigpen helping you save a roster spot by being more of a multi position tweener type. If Matthews can play well and behave, they may sacrifice a little hit in production at WR5 to save that roster spot. But Philbin likes his depth at WR so Thigpen may need to really impress and make it a very small drop off if they went with him.

Gotta love the "some NFL people" source these news outlets love to quote. Not buying it at all. Whether this is a motivational thing or just pure throwing stuff at the wall, we have way more to gain than lose by keeping him on the team. We are not that cap-tight we need the small amount we'd save by cutting him and as shown last year, his upside potential is more than worth what his salary would be. I think we see how it goes this year with him and then either let him walk next year or secure him on another short-term deal.

I never said any team would want Gibson over Wallace. I bet most teams would take Gibson a t his 3 million a year compared to Wallace at his 12 though.

Mike Wallace's contract is actually worth closer to 15 million/year isn't it?

Gibson is a good player and a good value. Mike Wallace is a good player but not a good value.

What I've noticed about Gibson is he has a nose for the end zone. Once he gets the ball in his hands inside the 10, he doesn't just take the no contact route and immediately hit the sidelines after the catch...dude is a warrior, and will throw his body up against anybody to pass the goal line. The kid has a great team mentality.

Well they can't keep them all, I hope they keep Gibson and trade Hartline (can get more for him for OL help) and have a very good team of receivers....but someone in the group needs to be traded instead of cut, if this is the way the FO wants to go, I hope it works out and will hold them accountable for it....

With one pass catching TE on the roster I keep them all. If Clay goes down we'll need another threat in the passing game and Sims, Egnew, Lynch, etal aren't going to cut it. I don't know why keeping too many good players at the same position, especially at such a petty cost, is a negative. Cutting Gibson after him having a full offseason in our program would be dumb, here is a guy who could help our AFC EAST rivals.
