What makes McCoy qualified to be a head coach in this league? His offenses pretty much stunk. There were more qualified candidates out there like Zimmer and other guys they didn't even interview. Its like when they didn't get Fisher, they went to the bottom of the barrel for McCoy. Of course Ireland wants this loser because McCoy will be his puppet. Ireland didn't want a qualified candidate because he was afraid he wouldn't be able to control that person the same way. Ross is a joke too. This team will continue to flounder until Ross sells the team. It all starts at the top and when it comes to ownership, the Dolphins are at the bottom.

He sucked with Orton who was an average QB...

I can't wait for the threads about how McCoy is gonna turn Moore (who stinks) into a franchise QB...Hope these same people aren't upset when the season ticket sales fall again.

Because head coaching is not the same as being as an offensive coordinator.

McCoy is qualified to have a shot at a head coaching gig like many other candidates out there. He's been sought after by others teams just like the other two candidates we've interviewed. He's not my first choice, but there wouldn't be so much buzz about the guy if people aronud the league didn't think he could have success.

Bottom line, we tried to woo Fisher here, whom we weren't supposed to be a favorite in getting anyway - and now we've interviewed McCoy, Bowles, and Philbin, 3 candidates other teams around the league have interviewed as well. Make assumptions if you want, but the front office knows more about the candidates than us and I think they deserve a year of support.

I agree. I don't understand this at all. I hope he proves us wrong but I have a feeling that in three years were doing this same song and dance all over

Bottom line is that if Ireland wanted/fought for McCoy...for whatever reason (less outspoken than Zimmer)...he is now inextricably linked to McCoy's success and they will succeed or fail as a pair. Mr. Ireland is no longer "safe". My hope is that he fully apprecaites this and is selecting a coach that he truly believes is the best candidate vs. one that he can conrol. The next few years will tell a lot about the character and competence of Ireland.

I wonder how all the Packers fans felt when a no name offensive coordinator from San Fran, with the 31st ranked offense, took over as HC for them. Probably the same. BTW, that offensive coordinator had been the offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints for 5 seasons before that, only having 2 winning seasons out of those 5. Since Mike McCarthy took over Green Bay he has gone 63-33 in 6 regular seasons, 5-3 in the playoffs and won a Super Bowl. If it is McCoy, I am not saying he will turn into Mike McCarthy or the Fins into the Packers, but you never know.

There is a lot of coaches who are mediocre OC and become good head coaches. Let's hope mccoy puts together a good staff and gets a QB. Because if he doesn't then he will be gone in 3 year. Doesn't matter the coach we sign... If he doesn't find a QB he will fail

mike mccoy over mike zimmer. why? because he was too "honest" smh. i will cheer for this team no matter what but sometimes the decisions this team makes, just makes no sense.

It all comes down to the fact that these two clowns dont know what structure is, that is why fisher wanted nothing to do with us because he does not know what direction we were heading in, Ireland is lobbying for mccoy because mccoy is probably a "yes" man, and zimmer was too "blunt", there needs to be a shared partnership with the head coach, gm, and owner, but ireland does not want that, he wants to run the whole show.

McCarthy went to a structured organization that had a vision, this franchise is dysfunctional and a complete mess, how is mccoy gonna feel next year when cowher or gruden say they wanna coach and ireland and ross are on a private plane flying out to try and hire them while mccoy is still the coach, who the F is MIKE MCCOY!!!!!!!!!!

You hit it right on the head. Zimmer is exactly what this organization needs, someone blunt and will tell it like it is.

"Who is Mike McCoy?"

"McCoy is a young Dan Henning."

"What makes McCoy worthy to even be a candidate?"

"McCoy's offense is boring."

All phrases by fans that really have no clue who or what McCoy is about. A lot of negative knee jerk reactions because they don't see his name a lot on ESPN. Do some research for yourself, listen to the guy speak, etc. There is a reason why he got this interview and appears to be the front runner for the job. Take some time to find out that reason for yourself instead of listening to other fans who don't really know anything about him and are just bashing him because of little things like he worked for Dan Henning in Carolina or that he couldn't turn Tebow into the next Tom Brady.

Zimmer isn't even an offensive guy so what difference would he have made if hired and all you were concerned about was having a guy whose offense didn't stink?
