Thoughts on Replacing Brandon Gibson?

ok fan, which do you prefer to battle with: a bow w/12 good arrows, or a Kalashnikov w/12 65rnd bananas?

Not being sacked 58 times.

Or if you like: No matter what kind of weapon you have, you're not going to hunt and kill anything with out proper camouflage (aka protection)

I'll start off by saying that I was a big fan of Gibson last year and thought he played well for us. He was solid. At the same time he coming off his patella tendon injury and that takes roughly 5 to 6 months to recover (for football activities). Which means he can START training in June. Either way his recovery is a big question mark. Considering we have a new OC, the slate is clean if we bring in a new guy as far as learning the offense. I would entertain the thought of replacing him with someone in FA.

A couple guys that come to mind to replace him are Andre Roberts (1st choice) or Emmanuel Sanders. I dont think either of these guys are going to get big bucks in FA and might be had for the right price.

Note: Cutting him would cost $3 Million against the cap this year. Keeping him would cost $3.7 Million this year.

I would not think about cutting Gibson until we see how is coming along in his rehab. Brandon wasn't the quickest receiver to begin with and we don't know how this injury will effect his play going forward.

Note: According to Over the Cap, designating Gibson as a June 1st cut, would save the team $2,735,000 with only $1,000,000 in dead money.

replace a wr coming off two straight 1000 yard seasons? One of a handful of Dolphin receivers to ever do that?

This forum cracks me up

Not only that, a stand up dude and one of the best people we have on the Fins. Hope he retires a Dolphin.

It's crazy going into this season HAPPY with our current WR core. I don't think it should be touched. WRs 1-4 are set in stone. Like Hayden said Matthews is our #3 if Gibson is unable to recover fully. And he deserves it...

I don't wanna try and replace a guy with a nose for the football and instinctual skills for getting open. The dude has a knack that other players don't have. He's tough and has great saavy. He'll be alright.

damit, i just wrote in another thread that's I've never seen you say anything positive.

I got crushed on this thread. Cant win em all. LOL
You got crushed because maybe you are wrong. Players like Emmanuel Sanders are not better than Brandon Gibson. With a bit of luck Gibson will be fully recovered and set to make a big contribution in '14.

I am allowed to have an opinion just like you. Nothing says Gibson will be the player he was before the injury. To say I am wrong is irresponsible when you have no idea how he will be post injury. Come September you could easily be wrong.

Last I checked this is a discussion board for people to throw out ideas and that is exactly what I did.

Gibson when healthy was clutch for us especially on third downs. He build a good chemistry with Tannehill early on. I would like to see him back if he's ready to go.
