Thoughts On This Play By Tua - Is The Commentator Right?

Only way you should be throwing that in the hole between the safety and db is cover 2. And it’s not cover 2

Tuas flat footedness makes that ball float outside and to the sideline.

It’s on the qb. If the concept ask for him to make a flat footed throw there and lead it out front it’s a fail in the design cause he doesn’t have the arm.

Too much air under that ball. That’s what I mean by tua throws to the back shoulder on verticals too much. Just as an example although this ball is just plain underthrown period.

I agree it was an under throw. It's just that when Tua throws one it's a question of arm strength, when another qb makes the same error it's a question of timing or simply a bad throw, but not a question of arm strength.

Other QBs don’t have to have perfect mechanics to execute it cause they are more physically gifted.

I tbink that’s what it comes down to more than anything when it comes to their arm strength vs tuas for example.

Tua can get lazy with his weight transfer and rotating his body through a throw
Might be a conditioning or weight issue for him

I agree 100% with you on this. His game is very limited by the lack of athleticism.

It very funny, and actually interesting that the OP posts a play, asks a question, and the Tua slobbers instantly get defensive and their panties all bunched up about it!!! Good God he posed a question. Answer it or don't, but stop getting all defensive like Tua is your Top. For **** sakes man, this place has become so polar it actually ****ing sucks now

I don't think it's an arm strength issue with him necessarily
If he drives on his front foot and rotates completely the ball probably get there no problem
He's on his back foot and deaccelerates mid throw which makes the ball float like that.
Maybe he doesn't have the hip and thoracic mobility required to turn through as he should

I just ignore all that crap and let the tape do the talking

Could be a function of the hip injury he sustained but again that’s all the more reason you need to have high level mechanics.

Maximize what you do have. I see no reason tua can’t make that throw though. He has a tendency to throw his verticals with too much air and again to the back shoulder instead of out in front. And these aren’t back shoulder concepts

I will say I have seen concepts that we have called with Mcd that the field didn’t allow for the qb to execute.

Steps drops and route concepts where the field was too short in other words.

Ones I would think on mcds play sheet would be required field lengths to call.

Those are just function of poor field awareness and completely on the oc

Back to the play, that safety is DEEP. He comes in from the top of the screen at the last moment. I don't think it was a great ball by any means but id guess he was trying to drop it in between the safety and the CB and missed his mark more than he intended. Have to see the all 22 to make a definitive answer
