Thursday Morning Practice Tweets

I think he has provent himself to be a solid NFL WR who is more than worthy of a starting role. In fact, I feel if he started on a team with a top notch QB, he could be a Jordy Nelson/Eric Decker type weapon for the Broncos, Packers, Patriots etc etc. And I realize those two players I mentioned are white. He could put up Deion Branch type performances and numbers from a few years ago when he was first with the Pats. Dosent have to be a white guy. Basically Hartline is at least a solid #2 for us. On a good team he could put up numbers of a top notch #2 IMHO.

Roberto Wallace on the other hand is turning into Brandon London around here. A bottom of the roster scrub who gets a ton of hype and barely records a catch when given a chance in real games. If he were released by the phins who are WR starved, he would be lucky to find a job in the NFL.

Thats just reality. Now dont get me wrong. Im not saying Wallace will never develope into a solid player or that he dosent deserve yet another opportunity. Im fine with it if he makes the roster. Im just not about to bank on him being a big weapon for us based on a couple of plays in practice that I havent even watched.(the plays themselves, but more importantly the entire practice). And Im definately not about to place him ahead of a guy who has proven he can make plays in real games. Let Wallace make some plays in the regular season and then we can discuss whether or not he should pass Hartline on the depth chart.

Also, Im more excited about the potential of Marlon Moore. Here's a guy who has shown flashes in actual games. I feel like if he can improve his catching ability, add some strength, and become a bit more disciplined in his routes, he can become a real good player in this league. Moore has some natural abilities when it comes to seperation and some impressive moves after the catch. Id much rather he get some opportunities and if he can cash them in talk about moving him into a starting role.

I like Moore, Hartline, Bess, Nanaee, and MuchoStinko as the top 5 and if you want to keep Wallace I can live with that. In fact, if you wanted to dump MuchoStinko I could definately live with that. Also, Clyde Gates can go if he dosent show some kind of skill aside from running fast real soon. It takes a lot more than speed to be a good WR in the NFL. Speed is quite overrated actually. Of course it certainly helps and if you have the other necessary skills, speed is a great weapon for a WR. But as long as you arent slow, catching the ball, being able to run crisp, precise routes, and the ability to seperate are all more important skills.

well i can promise you this much we, WILL be having this conversation again about those 2 guys , because WALLACE has improved each year, and if he gets to where i think he can, then he has the height and quickness to be a very good WR in this league. he was catching the ball pretty good last year in pratice ,and in preseason games, but just didnt get enough in the reg season to really come together as the reciver that he can be , will he ever be as good or better than hartline ? time will tell he has the size on hartline ,and runs faster, and is as quick ,, maybe quicker than brain ,he didnt really have a chance under our last head coach , but under this WC offence i think Wallace will become what i thought he would when he showed flashes as a rookie.

I have no idea how good Wallace is, or Moore, or Pruitt, or Fuller. None. So I couldn't say whether any or all of them are worth ditching Hartline for. I doubt it, to be honest. But I'm not ecstatic at the idea of Hartline being the best or second best guy we rely on to turn our offense around from one of the lower-scoring ones in the NFL. Again, just my viewpoint.

Gates needs to get healthy and quick. I did notice that he was the first person Philibin said had shown "flashes" the other day when asked about some of the other WRs. He also made it a point to emphasize how guys like Donald Driver was a 7th round pick and Jordy Nelson didn't just show up as a 15+ TD machine. He was referring to their development....and seeing how important that is to him, I just can't see a guy like Clyde Gates getting cut after one year. Receivers need time to develop...especially a guy like Gates who we knew was raw. He is still ridiculously talented and you just cannot teach the skills he has. With Philibin being so high on developing players I find it hard to believe he will cut what is arguably his most naturally athletic receiver. Then again he didn't draft him so you never know...I just found it telling he mentioned Gates first before Wallace and the others.

Prepare yourself for Gates to be cut. Natural talent is there but it's not enough without execution. There is a dogfight for the WR positions and he needs to deliver or Wallace or Hogan or Fuller or Matthews or Cunningham or Moore (did I miss anyone?) will win, assuming that Bess, Johnson, Hartline and Naanee are safe. Sitting on the sidelines is not the path to impress the decision makers.

Just in case you might have been talking about a different receover , we were talking about Brian Hartline - the guy who started 16 games last year and caught 35 passes and 1 TD. Not the fairly consistent playmeker you were talking about.

Not sure who that was, but the Hartline for the dolphins started 10 games in 2011.

That's more than a little premature. Remember that Brian Hartline has impressed during actual regular season football games. When Roberto Wallace has had his chances during games...he's generally blown them.

I don't mean to sound harsh, I do agree with you that Roberto Wallace has made his presence felt and is looking more and more like a guy who can make the team. I think what is interesting is he's crossing over from being a guy that flashes to being a guy that consistently brings it in the practices. That's a very tough thing to do...going from being a strobe light to a flood light. But being realistic, he's not even assured of a roster spot yet, let alone a spot ahead of Brian Hartline.

I think Roberto Wallace has finally turned the corner. (Just my opinion based upon what I have seen in practice this year). I live 20 minutes from training camp and I have been out there 3 times. I wasn't a Wallace fan last season, but he is making the plays this year and has caught my eye. I think the light bulb went on after spending working behind Marshall. The size and talent is there. The problem was between the ears. I think Garrard has helped him too. I think we are witnessing him blossoming as a player.
Hopefully this will carry over to the games. We need a big target to make us forget about Marshall.
We need Hartline healthy too. It looks like he will need a few more weeks at the minimum to get healthy.
Johnson, Hartline, Wallace and Bess. I think this line up is our strongest WR combo.

Right now, I would say that Wallace has already earned a spot and Fuller is the most likely out of the rookies to make the team from what I have witnessed during training camp. Gates is standing at the station, and the train has already started pulling away.
