Thursday Morning Practice Tweets

You guys should really stop hating so hard on Hartline, a guy who has made plays in real NFL games on a fairly consistant basis and shows real potential to be a solid NFL WR. Especially in favor of some bum who has barely held a roster spot that has never produced in a game that matters when given the opportunity. Its a couple plays in practice. Get real.

Wow. Vernon Carey is gone, so it sound like Brian Hartline is the new Finheaven punching bag...

Who's hating? I just think he's a depth receiver who has hit his ceiling. He's still an important member of the WR corps, but I don't expect him to morph into Miles Austin, even if others do.

Well Hartline hasn't done anything to warrant a automatic roster spot.

really excited to see this team in a couple weeks...I dont expect W's, but I do expect some hope shown from the youth.

My breakout player for 2012: Reshad Jones
He will become a great ****ing S

It's a small distinction but I said "no real separation". He can get the jump on DBs initially but he's very easily corralled. It's true also the ball placement at times was horrendous, but no OC has ever really regularly put him on slants or routes where he's taking the ball in stride because I think they know what he's good at and what he isn't. Hes kinda clutch when we need a key reception, which I like about him.

A slant play was exactly the play he made a 67 yard play happen on against the New Orleans Saints as a rookie.

I just don't agree with your assessment. I'm comfortable in what I've come to regard as things he's good at, things he can do, and things he can't.

What others? Can you name them?

Totally disagree with that.

Just in case you might have been talking about a different receover , we were talking about Brian Hartline - the guy who started 16 games last year and caught 35 passes and 1 TD. Not the fairly consistent playmeker you were talking about.

I think he has provent himself to be a solid NFL WR who is more than worthy of a starting role. In fact, I feel if he started on a team with a top notch QB, he could be a Jordy Nelson/Eric Decker type weapon for the Broncos, Packers, Patriots etc etc. And I realize those two players I mentioned are white. He could put up Deion Branch type performances and numbers from a few years ago when he was first with the Pats. Dosent have to be a white guy. Basically Hartline is at least a solid #2 for us. On a good team he could put up numbers of a top notch #2 IMHO.

Roberto Wallace on the other hand is turning into Brandon London around here. A bottom of the roster scrub who gets a ton of hype and barely records a catch when given a chance in real games. If he were released by the phins who are WR starved, he would be lucky to find a job in the NFL.

Thats just reality. Now dont get me wrong. Im not saying Wallace will never develope into a solid player or that he dosent deserve yet another opportunity. Im fine with it if he makes the roster. Im just not about to bank on him being a big weapon for us based on a couple of plays in practice that I havent even watched.(the plays themselves, but more importantly the entire practice). And Im definately not about to place him ahead of a guy who has proven he can make plays in real games. Let Wallace make some plays in the regular season and then we can discuss whether or not he should pass Hartline on the depth chart.

Also, Im more excited about the potential of Marlon Moore. Here's a guy who has shown flashes in actual games. I feel like if he can improve his catching ability, add some strength, and become a bit more disciplined in his routes, he can become a real good player in this league. Moore has some natural abilities when it comes to seperation and some impressive moves after the catch. Id much rather he get some opportunities and if he can cash them in talk about moving him into a starting role.

I like Moore, Hartline, Bess, Nanaee, and MuchoStinko as the top 5 and if you want to keep Wallace I can live with that. In fact, if you wanted to dump MuchoStinko I could definately live with that. Also, Clyde Gates can go if he dosent show some kind of skill aside from running fast real soon. It takes a lot more than speed to be a good WR in the NFL. Speed is quite overrated actually. Of course it certainly helps and if you have the other necessary skills, speed is a great weapon for a WR. But as long as you arent slow, catching the ball, being able to run crisp, precise routes, and the ability to seperate are all more important skills.

I believe thats about 33 more catches than MuchoStinko had last season.

When you consider that Hartline played opposite one of the leagues best WRs who demanded the ball as well as one of the best slot receivers in the league who eats up a ton of catches, played for a HC who hates passing, offense, and scoring points more than 3 at a time as well as a decent QB but, certainly not Tom Brady, tell me again why Hartline shouldnt be one of our starters this year.

Fair enough. I never really held his low catch count against him though, and Ive often thought we have used him wrong, but I have had a problem with what happens after the catch.

In all fairness, he does fall over a lot for no apparent reason.

He's got no strength after the catch. It's amazing he can make the cuts he makes because that takes leg strength, but then he displays no strength after the catch. But on the bright side, he gets his feet under him and falls forward for that extra two years just using his sheer body length. That's a decent quality of his.

Watching him catch the football, sometimes you really appreciate that the quarterback fit the ball quite literally in the spot where the only person that had a remote chance at the ball was Hartline...but then you're thinking...damn you didn't have to push it THAT much, could have left Brian just a tiny bit of margin for error.

There are catches Brian has made on that sideline that guys 3 inches taller than him wouldn't have made, it would have gone down as an overthrow, because the receiver doesn't have the same kinesthetic sense. They would jump for it, land out of bounds, and the viewer would chalk it up as an overthrow, thinking the receiver didn't have a chance to come down with it in bounds because it was too high.

That's true. But you've got people in this thread calling him a number 4 receiver, with no real logic to back it up. The fans need a player to abuse, and it looks like that player has become Hartline...

There is little doubt Hartline has skill. His sideline catches are for hightlight reels. Do you think Fuller has a shot? I hear his name more than ever, but not sure if that is media hype or the real deal.

See my post on the previous page. It's just a personal opinion. Clearly I don't see what some people see. So now Hartline and Lauren Tannehill have something in common!
