Tight End

You don't have to be a Dick Gonzo, Im just trying to understand the rational in taking snaps away from Clay and stunt his development or Brandon Gibson, and I like when our offense runs 3W

I've already answered that in multiple posts above. You're not taking snaps away from him. You're making the snaps he takes more dangerous for the defense. It doesn't stunt anybody's development. It's giving the offense more weapons. There is no such thing as too many offensive playmakers. There just isn't. This game is all about mismatches. The more you have, the more you win.

See that they were able to block. It does make a difference.

It absolutely makes a difference. We don't have that right now, not even with Clay, who is apparently the greatest TE to ever wear a Dolphins uniform.

In time. I would like to believe he could be but, that is a reach after one consistent year. IF Sims develops as I believe he will, we will have a VG 2 TE set. JMO

As far as Egnew, GOD only knows, and he has not returned any of my left messages on this. lol

Sorry, I was being sarcastic about the greatest TE ever. I like Clay and I think he's one of the best playmakers on the offense, but he has a ways to go before he joins Hardy, Mandich, and even Jackson. I believe another good TE helps him reach that level though, because he certainly has the potential.

Sims has potential, but is still a big "if." I'm tired of "ifs." Egnew, on the other hand, will be the casualty if we do go TE. All he's shown me is that he's going to force Tannehill to throw into heavy traffic every time he targets him. No thanks.

Draft a TE??? Did anyone see our Oline last year?

Thanks to Jefflon, our roster is already chock full of serviceable mid/low tier starters and depth guys at most positions.

Take one of these top TE prospects at 19 and then trade back up for a tackle. Or take one of the top tackles and then trade back up for a TE. Sign Monroe and Mack. We're in business.

Again, I think what people miss is that Clay is NOT a true off the line TE. He's an H-Back. He's a DAMN good one. But we need a big TE to play off the line, and Dion Sims does not appear to be that player.

Let's see here. Clay is a top ten TE from last year but, not a true off the line threat. So, who was? We got Jimmah (south park), V Davis (the better brother), Whitten, "The other ancient Gonzo," Jordan Cameron, and Who?

Many keep saying that we need that seam buster who can open things up and score TD's. Nice thought but, there are not many out there, and D's are now taking them away. Yeah, the rookies are gonna be great but, who was that good?

Even a guy like Greg Olsen would be good for this team. I'm not saying we NEED a Rob Gronkowski or something, but we certainly need someone who offers more than Dion Sims or Michael Egnew. Even Coby Fleener who has been a bit of a disappointment, has come on strong in year two and would add a new dimension to our team.

Eric Ebron, Jace Amaro and Troy Niklas are all names people are bringing up and I fully agree that we need to go get one of them. Can you imagine having one of those guys AND Clay on the field at the same time? Total nightmare for defenses.

These guys also don't grow on trees and that's why we'll have to get 'em in the draft. OL can be addressed through free agency. It sucks to overpay, but that is the unfortunate reality of what we must deal with after Jeff Ireland left us in this mess.

No reason to apologize and/or explain sarcasm, kills the effect. :)

Gronk, Old Man Gates still has some fuel left in that tank, Julius Thomas, Olsen, and Fleener is emerging, just off the top of my head.

i fail to see all this "upside" with dion sims...guy better learn to block well pretty much all i can say...cause that will be his meal ticket

Which receiver would yo bench to accommodate a pick who cannot block? Gibson? I think not.

Who would you trade Clay for, one for one, all things considered?

Clay was a top ten TE this year. Drafting another tight end would be stupid. Keller would be okay if the money if right.

Meh...if you draft a guy like Jace Amaro you potentially have the equivalent of Gronkowski and Hernandez (without the off field issues) in Amaro and Clay. Ebron would also be a seem threat and someone in the mold of a Jimmy Graham, not saying he's the next Jimmy Graham, but he's that type of big bodies receiver that presents mismatches. Remember when we had Fasano and David Martin at TE when Chad Pennington first got here and how important they were to the passing offense. A combo of Amaro\Clay or Ebron\Clay would be even better.

Dion Sims is a poor man's Anthony Fasano.

pretty much...got soft hands i will give him that...but not at all a dynamic pass catcher now or in the future...that's part of the problem with this tight end group...egnew will never separate or win against 1's in tight coverage...no real pass catching upside with our 2 young guys and this o does tight ends favors even...right now sims can run a 6 yard curl and show the qb his numbers...the further he carries a route down the field the worse he looks

Troy Niklas is a very good blocker. And if we bring in McAdoo as the coordinator I think you are going to see a lot of 4 wide sets, for better or for worse.

But to answer your question, Brian Hartline. I know that probably ain't a popular answer, but Brian Hartline. He isn't as good as Gibson, he ain't making catches in traffic or providing RAC like Matthews, and it is what it is.

Gonzo, add Martellus Bennett, Jared Cook, Jason Witten, Jimmy Graham, etc. Big TEs who can bust the seam are a necessity.
