Time For A Soft Rebuild

One correction.....you say use money to retain our young guys but then give Robert Hunt as an example someone we didn't retain. Hunt had just finished his rookie contract. If you aren't going to spend money on guys coming off their rookie contract, how are you retaining your 'young guys'? Guys are locked into contracts for their first four seasons.
I didn't say don't retain guys coming off their rookie contracts. I think you need to be looking to retain your young guys before anything else, if they have proven themselves.

Hunt was a bit of an outlier though. I mean we didn't really even have a choice in re-signing him I don't think, we didn't have the cap space. Even still, he may have been a case of a young guy who is going to get paid far more than he's worth in FA, and he knows that and doesn't want to re-sign. But still, it shouldn't ever come down to a situation of not being able to afford to re-sign a young player because you've got so much money that's been wasted on guys no longer here or on the downside of their careers.

Actually brings me to another part of why its dumb to sell it all for draft picks. You're just creating a situation where all of your young players are going to be hitting free agency at the exact same time.

Don’t take it so personal . 1000 yard seasons are < 60 per game . He’s not a difference maker for the $$ he is paid

He did that by being the ONLY real receiving option on a despicably stocked and coached team his rookie year, and then he was a major second fiddle to a guy who dominated targets- and Waddle suffered from consistency when he wasn't targeted for long stretches. He's been the better receiver between he and Tyreek this year, and the team can't reliably run passing plays with this offensive line, and you'll pry the screen plays from the playcaller's cold, dead hands.

This is what you get and “don’t take it personal” but it’s saved for retarded posts

If your priority is keeping your own guys….. you must make that determination and decision before the hit FA, preferably by the offseason going into that final year of the rookie deal.

I truly believe we could have extended both Wilkins and Hunt for much less than they got on the open market had we done that the offseason prior.

I can’t fault the Dolphins for not matching those contracts….. I can fault them for the lackluster effort in getting something done prior to.

Are you letting Grier and McDaniel do this soft rebuild?
Go look at our cap space, our contracts and the available free agents and then list the moves that you would make for this soft rebuild work.
It's not possible.... let me clarify. There is no way to make this roster a contender in 2025 with our lack of resources and aging stars.

Grier failed. AGAIN.

There's a restriction to how soon you can extend guys. With first rounders on the 5th year option like Wilkins you have more time.

We really weren't worried about our own guys. We were busy chasing Bradley Chubb and Jalen Ramsey.

I actually think it is a "Culture" issue

I don't think we know how to win, we aren't tough enough, we don't or can't run the ball at crunch time and we don't have bruisers in a number of the skill positions and defensively, we play "not to lose" instead of playing to win

We also seem to "expect" to lose in big moments and we play scared with the offensive play calling

We need a culture change and I'm not sure this coaching staff is capable of it or can draft to help support it
Your not sure? How can you not be absolutely positive this regime doesn't have it? What more do you need? Not being a dick here. Just wondering.

Miami's roster isn't bad, but the Dolphins are chasing too many teams.

Definitely need a bit of a rebuild and, I agree, that doesn't mean chasing big contracts.

Have to put together a series of strong drafts. That's where any build begins.

I agree that the culture needs to be changed. Practice can’t be a country club atmosphere. Not practicing hard also leads to injuries because your body is not used to it.

I believe in having a real head coach. Not some coordinator that specializes in one side of the ball. I liked McD but this is a mentally & physically soft team. However, I do think he survives given the extension and the fact that we seemingly are stuck with Tua’s extension for the next two years.

I don’t think we can or should totally blow it up but we need to hit on picks if we’re going to do a soft rebuild. Many here criticize Grier but it looks like he hit on 4 picks last year. At least they look like contributors.

This year has been a disappointment but we went 1-4 when Tua got hurt and then we lost 2 games on the final play. There is a lot of luck involved in football.

I'm firing Grier and McDaniel.

I'm hiring Louis Riddik and Ben Johnson.

I'm trading Tua, Tyreek, and Waddle for tons of assets.

Another true rebuild commences...
