Todd McShay - "Andrew Luck's best fit would be in MIAMI

Whether or not any team purposely "sucks for luck" they definitely need to change the draft process to avoid this happening in the future. There is just too much at stake to trust and team to play fair.

It would be easy to lose all or most games without it looking as obvious as those Giants "injuries" on Monday night.
The NBA's lottery system is about the only thing I like about that league.

Really the only way to do it is to appoint/leave in an an incompetent coach who the team has clearly given up on. In our case that would be to let Sparano sink with the ship instead of having the team rally around the interim to win some meaningless games. Players will still try to pad stats because their future contracts depend on it and same for the coaching staff in place. I'd a hate a system like the NBA has where it's a total crapshoot.

Well how has the offensive line worked out so far with drafting in rounds 2 and 3? Not very good last time I checked. I want Luck first, I am just saying o-line is a more important need at this point over a DT.
You don't have to spend 1st round picks on O-line to get good players. You just have to evaluate the players properly and actually coach them up which we spend very little time doing here. This team has been stagnant since Sparano got here. Very few of our players have actually gotten significantly better from rookie season to year 3 when it's supposed to all click. They would rather cut someone and try another player then spend time actually coaching them into better players.

Or maybe they just suck at evaluating draft picks...maybe a combination of the two.

Last years Pro Bowl lineman were Logan Mankins (1st round #32 overall), Kris Dielman (undrafted), Brian Waters (undrafted), Jeff Saturday (undrafted), Alex Mack (1st round #21 overall...man I wanted him in the draft), Jahri Evans (4th round #108 overall), Chris Snee (2nd round #34 overall), Carl Nicks (5th round #164 overall...wanted him too), Andre Gurode (2nd round #37 overall) and Ryan Kalil (2nd round #59 overall). So out of 10 pro bowl INTERIOR offensive lineman only 2 were first rounders. Most were undrafted.

imo Henne is a good QB BUT the Coaching is pitiful, serious id bet anything if Henne had a good coaching staff he would explode, Henne has to use the plays thats called to him and his audibles that he has is ridiculous .IMO Henne can still be a great QB in this League. coaching is everything.

Henne's got issues that are more than just coaching. I am not trying to tag him here just pointing this one out....

For example, in this past game you can SEE that he is standing still and not moving around during most of the negative plays. WHY?

Why is his pocket awareness so shoddy?

Later on its like the light comes on and he says to himself:

Oh crap, thats right if I dont move up and around in the pocket the DEs know where I'll be dropping back to and will just say to themselves, "HEY let's meet there, the QB wont move so he'll be right there!"...

Suddenly Henne begins to 'remember' to move up some and do the Marino 'hop step' and suddenly he starts to make plays again.

I saw him later on 'forget' again...then remember again...it was inconsistant.

WHY? The kids been playing QB for how long in his life now? These are skills that need to be instilled when your in Pop Warner man.

So...sometimes no matter how much coaching a guy gets...its up to HIM to get it and get into a rythm and get his head screwed on right.

EDIT: I dont want to derail the OPs thread going into Henne talk (theres plenty of other threads for that) so thats all I am going to say about him here.

And that's why the Dolphins are a bad team, they don't draft well or know how to develop the players they do draft. Its a bad cycle.

It's not as if they didn't have the opportunity to coach John Jerry in the Senior Bowl and get familiar with him.... along with Jimmy Graham and some of the other guys they passed on...

The difference with the NBA and the NFL is that in the NFL if your team looks really bad, you'll be fired in a heartbeat. GM and coach will go out the door. There's a lot more turnover in the NFL at the coaching position than in the NBA. You start sucking on purpose you'll lose the lockerroom, the fans, the support of the owner...and you're not getting it back. Much more difficult to manage 53 personalities and get the behind you after you threw them under the door than it is to get 15 guys on an NBA team. Players want to win, that's how they make their money with bigger contracts and endorsements. In the NBA you can play for a crappy team and still get endorsement money.

And that just makes them look really bad.

As bad as you guys think we are.....we are no where near as bad as INDY or KC. Those two teams look godawful. KC has been dominated by it two opponents so far and looks lost especially after losing Charles.

Give it up folks, unless we are ravaged by injuries, we're not going to be in position to pick #1. Nor will the team in the #1 position give up Luck for any reasonable price, unless it's the Panthers.

I am all for tanking the rest of this crappy season in order to get Luck. Seriously, what is better - going at absolute best 9-7 (which won't happen)? Or being set at the QB position for the next 15 years?

You know what wouldn't be fair...

Indy getting Luck and he turns out to be as good as advertised.

WTF.

Manning then Luck....

Talk about being....'lucky'....

Its a no brainer for me, crappy season and getting Luck all the way. I have seen way to many 9-7 and 8-8 seasons with this team. Not good enough to make the playoffs, but not bad enough to get a high draft pick and impact player. Just stuck in the middle. Its like groundhog day, the same thing over and over and over again. I am sick of it.

how about this? we have a crappy season as some suggested and still DONT get luck? F TANKING A SEASON. gtfo here.
