I just read the post about the top 3 Phins of all time, now I was thinking......who do you think is the top 5 players of all time in the NFL?? You can put players still in the NFL if you think by the time they retire they will be good enough for your top 5. If you have a particular order then put it in one, but if not just say its in "no particular order" and if there's a few you would like to put in an honorable mention category then go for it haha.

No Particular Order:

1) Dan Marino (arguably the best QB of all time, a no brainer for the top 5 for me)

2) Peyton Manning (Sad to say all you hardcore Marino fans, but IMO I think he will pass pretty much all of Marino's records when its all said and done and be known as the best QB of all time)

3) Jerry Rice (Holds pretty much every recieving record in NFL history, IMO he is easily the best WR of all time)

4) Barry Sanders (was well ahead of shattering the all time rushing record before he retired suddenly, in one season he was averaging 6.1 YPC and ran for over 2000 yards, IMO the best RB of all time, no one will ever run like Barry did)

5) Ray Lewis (I may get critisized for this one, but Im all for this guy, he's a true team player, leader and the most dominate/intimidating defensive player in the NFL today, there's no one who compares to Ray Lewis and I honestly think that he will go down as the best defensive player of all time.....but this is all IMO)

Honorable Mention: John Elway, Reggie White, Tim Brown, OJ Simpson, Randy Moss, Lawerance Taylor, Joe Montanna. There's just so many.

Too early to put Lewis and Payton in there! You could have added Walter"Sweetness" Payton, and Jim Brown though.

Peyton has thrown for over 4000 yards for about 7 years straight now, I think he's proven......and he has the exact same offense this year and probably for a few more years to come

total bunk!

how is jim brown not even an honorable mention?

Ray Lewis, while great, NOT IN TOP 5 players all time. MAYBE TOP 5 LB. Dude, i realize this is your generation, as it is mine, but players now, are not exactly the only great ones. my point is, Peyton Manning doesn't belong in there either. and probably neither does marino. Rings Help. Lets wait for Manning to finish his career, because at this point, he hasn't done anything. take him out of the dome and into pressure playoff situations.. manhandled. 41-0 against Jets. Throws 4 pics to NE. then last years miraculous showing... please, give me a break.

He has a great career so far I give you that. It's too early to put him in the top 5. You really need to think this out better. Your are evn putting him in front of Joe Montana who you didn't even mention on your list. Peyton must be able to in the future win the big game to get in the top 5.

Elway, Montana, Jim Brown, list goes on and on before you can add Ray Lewis and Peyton Manning to the list of 5 all time greatest. Manning is a good regular season quarterback but he can never win the big game. He lost to Surtain's highschool in the championship and he couldnt win the national championship at tennessee. Lewis is a good linebacker but he isnt one of the all time greats. Jack Lambert, LT, Bounicotti, alot better linebackers than him.

everyone's critisising my picks, but no one is putting any of there's up, so if you guys know so much then why dont you put your top 5 up?? Do you think someone will ***** about yours???

At least I have an opinion on the topic.

and I could have added 100 guys to the honorable mention, Jim Brown and Payton were AMAZING!! im not takin anything away from them! Geez, if I put everyone up there I would be up all night.

I pretty much think Marino does since he holds most every major statistic for a quarterback there is.

Hey, I respect that you the sack to post them. AllI am saying is that you have to look to some of the past greats that made this game what it is today. :)

it's just hard for me to put marino in the top 5 players of all time.

we all have an opinion, here's my list.

Jim Brown
Walter Payton
Joe Montana
Lawrence Taylor
Unitas.

Barry Sanders isn't the greatest RB of all time, how can he be on the list?

And an "HONORABLE MENTION" to Tim Brown? Are you kidding?????

Also, Tom Brady and 3 Super Bowl rings must be discussed with this list. Maybe not Top 5, but he is at least in the discussion.

ok, I knew everyone would complain about the Lewis and Manning pick.......but I said in the post that you can pick players still playing that you think will end up in the top 5.....I think Peyton and Lewis will be in the top 5 when their careers are all said and done. so how about you give me your top 5......the point of this was to see what you think, not for you all to critique my picks!

Jim Brown
John Elway
Joe Montana
L.T.
Deacon Jones

Well...lets see what I start with my top 5:

1.) Jerry Rice: Put up absurd numbers for so long and dominated the game like no other.

2.) Walter Payton: People forget how long he played on a VERY bad team yet put up numbers and played his a$$ off every week. He was NEVER hurt and was the greatest all around runner ever.

3.) Dan Marino: Call me a homer but put him on a team with more talent and he'd have a collection of rings to rival Joe Montana.

4.) Joe Montana: Mr. Cool. Always made the play when it had to be made. Never panicked. Has a wall of MVP's and a fist full of rings to prove his greatness.

5.) Lawrence Taylor: Changed the position and changed teams game planning. Explosive, impact player who played big in big games.

Honorable Mention:

Jim Brown: I never saw him play but he dominated his era.
Barry Sanders: Perhaps the most exciting player ever.
Johnny Unitas: I never saw him play but the guy is a legend.
Mr. Ed: The two rings he got in the end put him on this list.
Reggie White: See Lawrence Taylor.

To be TOP 5 of all time at the QB position you must actually WIN something. Or at least come close and then have huge stats to back ya up. Manning hasn't won a damn thing in this league and shouldn't even be in the conversation. At least get to a Super Bowl. Even if ya lose, get there!

Lewis WAS a great MLB. Anyone who has watched him hte past 2 years knows he is on the downside of his career and average at best. His run as the "best" at his position was very short.
