Hold the phone... If you're going to put a kicker in the honorable mentioned list then you have put Yepremian in there.

a kicker? hell, if you're adding a specialist then it has to be Ray Guy.

56

In no particular order,

Sammy Baugh, Otto Graham, Jim Brown, Jerry Rice, Lawrence Taylor.

honorable mention: Reggie White, Walter Payton, Earl Campbell, Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Anthony Munoz, Russ Grimm, Mean Joe Greene, John Elway, Dan Marino, Joe Montana, John Unitas, Fran Tarkenton, Sonny Jurgensen, Art Monk, Charley Taylor, Steve Largent, Cris Carter.

(OK so I got carried away on the HM list, I just can't leave off some of those guys.)

Barry Sanders isn't the greatest RB of all time, how can he be on the list?

And an "HONORABLE MENTION" to Tim Brown? Are you kidding?????

Also, Tom Brady and 3 Super Bowl rings must be discussed with this list. Maybe not Top 5, but he is at least in the discussion.

Most people will disagree with you on Sanders. I think he is the best RB ever. AS for Brady - he is on one of the best TEAMS ever assembled. He is a good QB, but no way does he have the skills necassary to carry a team. So he has 3 SB rings. THere are probably a few OL, DL, LB, S, CB who also have 3 Super Bowl rings that wouldn't even be mentioned in the top 100. Brady is further from the top 5 than Manning. This is about the top five PLAYERS, not to 5 players on winning/ SB winning teams.

Heres my Top 5:

Jim Brown: So far ahead of his generation with regards to speed and power.

Lawrence Taylor: Probably the most dominating defensive player ever

Jerry Rice: Bar none the greatest at his position, and its not even close.

Otto Graham: Unknown by many newbies, he reached 10 Championship Games in 10 years. He was Montana before Montana, and led one of the the first NFL dynasties. He helped put Football on the map.

Barry Sanders: No rings, no Championships. Just the most unique, explosive player Ive ever seen.

this is good, my only change might be adding Jonnie U and moving down Barry.

from an earlier post,
unified theory
Honorable Mention:

Jim Brown: I never saw him play but he dominated his era.
Barry Sanders: Perhaps the most exciting player ever.
Johnny Unitas: I never saw him play but the guy is a legend.
Mr. Ed: The two rings he got in the end put him on this list.
Reggie White: See Lawrence Taylor.

ROFL:roflmao:

Top 5 is tough. So many positions to narrow down to 5 slots. Here goes

Joe Montana: Mr. clutch. The Michael Jordan of football. The bigger the game, the bigger he played. When Joe took the field and the game was on the line you KNEW he was going to win.

Lawrence Taylor: Reinvented the way defense was played. One of the few defensive players I have ever seen that could take over a game.

Jim Brown: Ran like a man among boys. Before my generation, but he possessed a package of power and speed that allowed him to run over, around, and past opposing defenses. For what its worth ESPN ranked him highest among football players on its 100 top athletes of the century list.

Jerry Rice: Hands down the best reciever ever to play the game.

Barry Sanders: Had moves NOBODY else had before or since. No line, no passing game, no doubt in the defense's mind exactly who's getting the ball? No problem for Barry. Should have owned the all-time rushing record.

Close call: Elway, Marino, Unitas, Sammy Baugh, Butkus, Reggie White, Eric Dickerson, Sweetness, Anthony Munoz, Ronnie Lott, Dick "Night Train" Lane.

Possibilities among current players: Manning and Ray Lewis.

1) Jim Brown
2) Lawrence Taylor
3) Jerry Rice
4) Tie...Joe Montana & Walter Payton
5) Tie...Mike Haynes & Ronnie Lott

To be TOP 5 of all time at the QB position you must actually WIN something. Or at least come close and then have huge stats to back ya up. Manning hasn't won a damn thing in this league and shouldn't even be in the conversation. At least get to a Super Bowl. Even if ya lose, get there!

Lewis WAS a great MLB. Anyone who has watched him hte past 2 years knows he is on the downside of his career and average at best. His run as the "best" at his position was very short.

Downside the past 2 years??? LOL!! do you remember he won Defensive MVP 2 years ago?? lol if your downside gets you an MVP award then that's top 5 for me!

Jim Brown
Jerry Rice
Dan Marino
Barry Sanders

cant think of a 5th, but some Defensive guy deserves to be on the list.

Active Players

1. Tom Brady - 3 Super Bowls in 4 Years Nuff Said
2. Corey Dillon - Best Stiff Arm in the NFL
3. Rodney Harrison - Hardest Hidder in the NFL
4. Teddy Bruschi - Best LB in the NFL IMO the guy has a HUGE Hart.
5. Jerry Rice - Best WR of ALL TIME
