Tua doesn’t have the arm strength

The problem isn’t that the guy can’t throw the ball 50 or 60 yards. I’m sure he can. The problem is against NFL DBs he can’t throw the ball that far in the super tight windows bc NFL DBs break on the ball a lot faster than in college.

No offense to those who keep saying well I saw him throw deep in college (especially no disrespect meant to SF) but y’all go watch Bryce Young for Bama this year. Go watch Mac Jones last year. Watch Jalen Hurts at Bama. EVERY Bama QB throws deep balls and hits them. That’s not something that just Tua himself was doing. Every Bama QB since Saban embraced the spread throws deep balls and completes tons of them. It’s easy to do when you out talent every single team you play.

Tua as well as the coaching staff and every team we play KNOWS he either can’t or won’t throw that opposite hash deep out route or that deep in pattern in the middle of the field or those deep seam routes down the middle of the field.

The guy can throw the football. He just can’t throw it with zip or at least enough zip to make those throws on patterns from the wide hash or really any throw that requires zip to beat NFL DBs that break on routes and jump them. Once again I’ll say it he’s limited. Certain things he can do well not elite. But he’s a top 5 pick. Why should we lower the standard for a guy selected that high? I just don’t understand why everyone wants to lower their standards.

The biggest thing for me is if he were on any other team and we were playing that team everybody here would be chalking it up as an automatic win and I can only imagine the things people here would say about how bad he is.

For Christ sakes we have people here that actually put down and bash Justin Herbert but will defend Tua with everything they got. If any fans of other teams were to read some of this we see on here daily at how people defend Tua they would laugh so hard they’d pass out. We play Houston this week... go read their board about the game and look at the things they say about Tua. Go read the things Buffalo fans say about him or NE or he’ll even the Jets. When we play Baltimore go read their board. It’s every other teams fans that all think the same thing about Tua and that’s that he’s no good.

And I’m sure the usual suspects will jump in here and say who the hell cares what other fans think and I’m not saying I do. I’m simply saying how can it be possible that everybody else thinks he’s no good and we’re the only ones that think he is? Are people really going to try and tell me that our little slice of the pie in our fan base is right while the other 31 teams fan bases combined are all wrong?
That's well said and spot on.

What you are going to learn is that if you have a quick release and are very accurate your arm does not have to be Gun. Aka Drew Brees and Tom Brady

His Draft profile highlights his Negatives

CONS: Delivery features a slight hitch. Base will occasionally narrow and impact his release point. Has some intermittent issues staying on top of the ball on quick outs. Missed some coverage rotations vs Georgia and Clemson late in 2018 that led to costly turnovers. On a few instances (enough to note), it appeared that he didn’t read the same leverage as his receiver on some deep shots. Arm strength is good enough but he doesn’t have a cannon. Injury history is concerning.

BEST TRAIT - Accuracy

WORST TRAIT - Durability

RED FLAGS - 2019 Hip Injury

NFL COMP - Drew Brees

Tua Tagovailoa features a skill set that translates wonderfully to the style of offense that productive NFL teams employ. His quick processing skills, trigger, accuracy and ability to remain comfortable under duress are exceptional qualities that give him a great chance to succeed at the next level.

I know this is a popular narrative and common thought by many but how have you come to that conclusion?

Short passes doesn’t not mean lack of arm strength.

I don’t see Tua throwing wobblers nor do I see receivers waiting for balls.

It’s been disappointing not to see any long attempts especially when we had such speed at the position. This is similar to Ryan Tannehill can’t throw the deep ball because he had limited throws to rock hands Mike Wallace due to poor line play.

Just seems too familiar.
Are you watching the same games I am? Tua throws absolute floaters that are in the air for what seems like an eternity. The difference is highly noticeable from inside the stadium too. A short throw to his first read that gets fired right from the snap usually looks fine. He does ok with some slants and things from that set up. But, once he moves on from that almost any pass he throws just does not have the same zip you see from other NFL QBs. If you don't see that then you don't see it. The players see it for sure. The opposing teams definitely see it too and that reflects in their defensive game plans.

What you fail to mention is that those guys are two of the most cerebral QBs to have ever played.

Comps between a guy that has accomplished nothing at the NFL level, to unquestioned, likely unanimous, first ballot HOFers are ....... well ...... just silly.

Now the positives (read and weep). Everything from this Young QB has been shown so far in his Pro analysis. He is going to get better if he can stay healthy. I think he will be a solid starter in the is league maybe even exceptional.

PROS: Love how controlled he is among chaos and somehow finds ways to stay in rhythm. He’s a cool customer that wins from the feet up in the pocket. Does a terrific job navigating the pocket, keeping his eyes down the field and finding his outlets under duress. He isn’t the tallest quarterback but the density of his frame is ideal for his style of play. He is balanced and rhythmic with his footwork in the pocket and is generally synched up properly with his routes. Has success challenging all levels of the field with sound accuracy. Takes full advantage of the incredible speed at his disposal with the Bama WRs and works the football down the field with excellent success. Generally does well to get himself aligned properly to his targets. Very deliberate with lower body follow through and rotation. There were some challenges late in the 2018 season but Tua generally reads coverages with comfort and understands coverage rotation while showcasing the ability to hit throws with anticipation. Processing speed is mostly sound. Does well to recognize opportunities pre-snap and execute post-snap. Love his overall tempo between his drops, progressions and trigger. Effectively mixes up his fastball and changeup based on the type of throw required for the situation. Makes some gorgeous touch throws that are dropped in the bucket and between zones. Impeccable character and leadership qualities.

We have crap for an OL and crap at RB's, so play action is also crap. It is hard to just drop back for a long pass when you have no OL, no good RB, and no real threat at play action.

Tannehill throws nice deep balls in a Titans uniform especially to AJ Brown.
funny how everybody said Tanny couldnt throw the deep ball here in miami. now he magically can. amazing what a decent oline and running game will open up .

Yes it's called learning Brady has played 346 games in his career Tua has played 13 so is he supposed to know the NFL Defenses like Brady does now?

I disagree with Bridgewater. He does not have a great arm. His arm strength has been questioned throughout his career. He has enough arm to be an NFL QB but he does not scare anyone with his zip, widening the field with deep outs/sideline throws and fitting throws in tight spaces like Rodgers, Mahomes, Allen and company do.
I wasn't saying Bridgewater has the strongest arm, I should've used Lamar Jackson example. Even so Bridgewater doesn't look like he is throwing a javelin.
