Tua's Next. Be prepared.

The big question is will it include an out clause like after two or three seasons like the Giants did with Daniel Jones? I believe they can move on from him after this season with a minimal cap hit if he doesn't show a lot of improvement.
I doubt it. The Fins believe in Tua and expect him around for the long term which is fine with me.

I do expect some incentives to be built in however

All contracts of this magnitude have potential outs, unless it's a Cousin's type short term, fully guaranteed deal.

It's more a matter of how much of the $ the team has to eat.

I agree, though. No way Tua signs a contract that really only amounts to two years guarantee, and probably not 3 considering he's already under contract for this season.

Based on past contracts then I think they will, it’s been a hallmark of every big contract they have gave out so far. I’d imagine there will be an out after 3 years were there will still be a cap hit but enough cap relief to help the roster out if needed. That’s why I think the ones that want him to play out this year, tag next year (and gut the roster to get the tag under the cap) are on the wrong train of thought.

I also don’t think they will need the out either, I think Tua will be a top 5 QB in 3 years time and the contract will look like a bargain.

Even Cousin’s deal does, it’s essentially a 2 year, $100M fully guaranteed deal.

As long as Tua gets the guaranteed number he is after I don’t think he will be bothered if the Dolphins can cut him in 3 or 4 seasons time.

They can believe in him all the want but the smart thing to do as a franchise is have some kind of out after a few years in case he doesn't improve or they keep losing in the first round of the playoffs.

Or, knock wood, he has a severe injury, or even a number of less severe ones.

I love Tua and believe he's the guy, but this is how the team needs to be looking at it. They can have all the confidence in the world in him, but there still needs to be outs in the contract after a reasonable amount of time.

I am not sure that Tua can improve(Very much) I think we see what he is and what he is not.
Sadly I feel this too. Lets hope we're pleasantly surprised. One reason I'm holding faith is purely because of McDaniel. As another poster suggested, it would have to come down to McD creating a scheme to counter when defenses are getting physical and throwing the timing off the anticipation attack. Less predictability would be a start... the strengthened running game will also take pressure off of Tua. This is the best he's going to have it, with all the weapons and coaching. Would be wise for maximize this season and win when it really counts.

So I've been preparing, where is this new deal?

Any updates or is this really gonna drag on for ever

Scheme wise they are going to need to come up with an alternative when the defense impacts route timing like the Chiefs have done.
Yes it is called checking down--not new technology but not yet fully discovered by the dolphins under this regime. With all these weapons there are going to be open receivers no matter what the defense does it is just a matter of finding them quickly enough. Just please not behind the LOS unless they have a lot of green in front of them.
