You think the team has to. Most of the rest of folks here seem to think it's a terrible idea.

I’m not sure where you are getting that idea from. I’ve neither stated nor implied that, nor do I in any way think that they have to. It is a terrible idea, especially for more than one season, but we are discussing options, and it is an option that the organization has. Whether it’s a good or bad option to take was not a point I spoke to in any of my posts on the subject.

What I was saying was, if a team feels as though they have to use the tag, for whatever reason, they’ll use it. Finding a top 10 QB is, as we all know very hard, and most teams will do everything they can do keep that QQ once they have one, and then deal with cap issues later, because once you have that player, winning becomes a lot easier, as opposed to teams that have lot of cap room but not a quality QB. I think that’s just the way it works when it comes to value of a top tier NFL QB.

Edit: Somehow posted half of my reply in a totally superset thread.

Dolphins' Hill eyeing pay bump amid rising receiver market

Thought I would change things up. Not that this is anything new to report.

Where do you all think his deal stands vs the Lawrence deal??
I believe the Jaguars paying Lawrence so much money for so many years will go down as one of the worst ever QB contracts. His play the past 3 seasons has been very mediocre including way too many turnovers.
Jacksonville should have shopped Lawrence before the recent draft and maybe the Bears, Commanders, or Patriots would have given up their 1st round draft pick for him. This way the Jags could start over with a new rookie contract and there is a good chance Williams, Daniels, or Maye would prove to be better than Lawrence.

Or all those quarterbacks you mentioned could be worse. Prove to be better?

That is a very short term view, IMO.

As I have said, there are those who believe all in now is the preferred course (I assume you're in this group) and there is nothing wrong with that philosophy.

By the same token, there's nothing wrong with a longer term outlook either. It's just two different perspectives.
I get that, no solution is perfect for everyone.
I just believe that for this team, right now, it’s best to get it done and out of the way. The Dolphins are built to challenge for a title, if you were going to play games with the most important piece, why bother with everything else? They say they want a long-term deal done, they need to make it happen before camp starts or it will have negative impact on this team.
Also, most contracts are built for the short term, no matter the numbers. It may say 5 years in the title, but as mentioned, in reality the last 1-2 years don’t happen. If he busts out, it all gets blown up anyway and you can eat the money in the process.
Let’s get everyone’s mind right and go to work.

I just don't see Lawrence leading the Jaguars to a Superbowl. He's not that accurate of a passer, his mobility is average, and he fumbles when pressured. It's true William, Daniels, or Maye may not be any better, but at least the Jags could have given it a shot for a lot less money than they are paying Lawrence.

No, what matters is winning playoff games and Superbowl (s).
Your perspective seems to be that it's been decided Tua should be the Dolphins QB for years to come, but I doubt Mr. Ross or Grier have that conviction.
Who says the Dolphins can’t with Tua? You don’t seem to follow the Dolphins closely, but he’s only been in playoff game so far

True but that isn't NFL reality. Thats just your NFL opinion.

So teams should just keep drafting 1st round qb until they have to get paid. Then let them go and draft 1st round qb again. Am I right?
