That philosophy comes straight from former Dolphin line coach (pun very much intended) Chris Foerster whom McDaniel studied at the feet of in SF.

"This is my personal opinion, if they ask me, invest in guys that touch the ball, guys that can touch the ball and score touchdowns. "

I don’t think McDaniel studied at the feet of Forester.

McDaniel joined the 49ers in 2017 as the run game coordinator and then became the offensive coordinator a couple years later, while Forester joined the 49ers in 2019 as a game planning assistant.

Sorry I didn’t put this all in the same post, I was having issues editing my previous post on my phone.

I've read and heard the level of respect McDaniel has for Foerster and how closely they worked together, shared their sobriety journeys, perhaps a bit of hyperbole when it comes to the phrase I used, maybe not. Foerster is an NFL lifer as an oline coach, it certainly makes sense for a young ascending offensive coach to attach himself to a guy like that and embrace his philosophies when it comes to o-line play

“I was not sleeping so I could be more involved,” McDaniel said. “And then pulling all-nighters like every other week so I could be involved in the game-planning process. And then pitching plays to (OL coach Chris) Foerster — if he co-signs then I would get with Kyle and have Kyle name them so the play would get in. Because if he named it, then he had ownership over it. I just want to get the play in. So. A little understanding of psychology never hurts.”

Says alot about the hierarchy at the time, not arguing with you @Archaeopteryx , maybe got a little off track with the verbiage.

No worries at all. I didn’t take it as argumentative. I’m turning 50 and just got my first pair of reading glasses which I keep forgetting so half of my posts are incoherent jumbled messes that don’t properly convey what I’m trying to say since I can’t see what the hell I'm typing (or half of what I’m responding too, lol). My apologies if I came off as an asshat.

Not at all brotha, carry on. And I just realized as I was typing this I was pushing my pair of "cheater" glasses back up on my nose, can't bring myself to get a real pair, my eyes are perfectly fine (yeah, right).

You seem to be ignoring the fact that the Dolphins (and other teams) have options other than signing their existing QB for more money and years.
Please understand that the "market" includes inventory of dozens and dozens of QB's, from rookies to veterans.

This is completely false.

For one thing, you can rule out every first QB drafted in the past three drafts.

Should I keep going?

ANOTHER SPECULATION POST..... for your info @Fin-Loco

Is Ross involved, perhaps heavily involved in this discussion...?

NFL Owner's discuss implementing a Quarterback Wage Scale.

Bleacher report-There has certainly been discussion within the league among certain owners about even the idea of a quarterback cap, that at some point you don't want quarterback numbers to go over a certain percentage of your salary cap," NFL Network's Tom Pelissero said Tuesday during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show (6:10 mark). "To my knowledge, that hasn't really gained traction, in part because so many teams have paid their quarterbacks."

This feels like it has Ross's old arthritic fingers all over it. Him and Jerry Jones are my guess.

Hope he isn't. It was kinda fun having a 1st rounder for a change.

It's the one thing the NHL does right with the salary cap. They have a max percentage of the cap that any one player can earn. There are a lot of players in the NFL that have short careers, even really good players. I'm sure many would benefit from a QB not taking up 30% of the cap.

👏👏
I'm believing in this myself!
As long as teams have a free market there is zero chance of this happening. If they, as a group of owners, decided on something like this it would be collusion.

The only chance of anything like you are suggesting happening is if the league imposed a cap on players salaries, which would require a cap for every position just to be fair. Not happening as long as the players union has any say about it.

A more realistic situation is if QB salary doesn’t count against the cap, or there’s some rules about part of the salary not counting against the cap for teams resigning QBs they drafted. Somethin’ like that.

Has he been the best WR int the game the past two seasons?

He has no guaranteed $ after this season. If you cut him you have 22m dead money and only gain 11m cap space. What sense does it make to do that? Are you going to replace his production for 11m?

What difference does it make what he says. If that irritates you, tough titties. You just seem to be against these guys making this kind of money in general. You would cut off your nose to spite your face and call it principles, rather than try to make it work for both parties.

He is the best player on the team. If you want to cut him, fine, but it makes no sense to me. I think in terms of what's best for the team, not how jealous I am of the money they make.
He has been one of the best wideouts in the game the last 2 years... He was also the highest paid.

I never said cut Hill... I said let him play out his contract. Why pay him more when we already have him inked for 2 more years.

I see a pattern in your thinking, and on paper it makes alot of sense. But outside of on paper, there are many things you need to consider.

One of which is this philosophy that the Fins are trying to promote that if they come here, they will be rewarded for their commitment. It's already paying off with the absurd deals they got in this FA period.

If they start playing hard ball with everyone out of nowwhere, which they absolutely have the right to, then you can also kiss those FA deals goodbye. Every decision you make has pros and cons.
