Tye Hill in the 1st

FinNasty said:
They only have us taking Hill because he is the best CB available at that spot and the secondary is our biggest need. However, they arnt even thinking about how the player would fit in the system because they probably dont even know about every team's systems in depth...
I trust that site and Scott Wright. If you check his past final mock drafts in the archives section you will see that he is dead on with where teams will go most the time.

Well trust me when I tell you that Hill wouldnt be successful in our system. Our scheme requires big CBs that play very physical that are good against the run.

Like I said, Hill is the best CB on the board there... so it seems like a no-brainer type of pick with our needs at CB... but Hill just wouldnt fit. In that situation, we would be much better off drafting at another position like DT, LB, or OT... and taking a DB in Rd. 2 that would fit much better like Jason Allen, Cedric Griffen, or Cromartie...

It isnt the talent of the player that matters some times... it is how well they can carry out the responsibilities that are required of them by a specific team. If Wanny was still here and we still ran that basic man defense... there is no doubt we would grab Hill because you can leave him alone on an island with his speed... but it is a new defense with different needs...

I agree with you about our sceme but I still say that he is talented enough to fit. I wouldn't say that he is a square peg round hole guy. I do agree that he would have fit in Wannys system perfectly. We will just have to wait and see. You mentioned DT. Anyone in mind for 16 overall? Ngata should be gone by then. I would like to see Justice at T if he slipped. What are your thoughts?

I think you are completely right I just don't know why you don't like Jonathan Joseph who is a Good CB who you can leave on an island however he can really play in Saban's System too. He can really tackle well in the open feild and he has just as much speed as Tye Hill. I just think you should add him to your list of CB's.

Do you mean in round 2? I think he will be gone by the time we pick in round 2

I am not Fin Nasty, But i thought I would throw my thoughts in too. There is not gunna be a DT at 16 that we pick unless its Gabe Watson and Brodrick Bunkley however I think we would be reaching for those picks. I think its funny when you say Wanny had a system. He basicly threw 11 guys out there and told them to play football. Talent is the only reason they did so good and he had good corners that could play on an island. Justice would be a great tackle at 16 because he has alot of upside and he can play both tackle positions. I really like how athletic and he has a mean streak in him and he always wants to beat his guy. You have to love that about him!

Yeah I meant in rd 2 however he might slip based on the fact that he is really really raw because he only played 1 year of division 1 football. Besides if people fill there need in free agency he just might slip to us.

I think he had a good enough combine to be gone early second. If he has a good pro day too than that may sell it. I don't think there is very good corner talent in FA this year... so far.

Yeah but I have a feeling Justice will be taken before 16... I hope he slips

Yeah I have heard the same thing and if he does that is gunna be really bad however somebody else might slip. If we can't get him or Jimmy Williams I really wanna trade down. I would love to trade the 16 pick to someone at the end of the first for there 1st and there 2nd. There is sooo much talent in this years draft its really unbelievable. Justice is a real need position and if he is there at 16 I think we are gunna take him.

Well not a good one we can afford anyway. I just am hoping I guess that he slips. There is sooo much talent that someone is gunna slip and I hope its him. I have seen Mocks where he is gone and some where he is there. So you really never know cause alot of weird things can happen.

Here is some more on Jonathan Joseph CB South Carolina

Strengths: A fast-rising prospect with explosive speed. Is a fluid athlete with very good initial quickness and COD skills. He shows the ability to turn-and-run without losing much in transition. Is quick out of his pedal and shows good closing burst. Is able to make up a lot of ground when the ball is in the air. He shows good leaping ability and will challenge for the ball in traffic. Possesses natural playmaking instincts and very good ball skills. Is aggressive in run support. Willing and fills hard. Shows adequate strength and is an efficient tackler in space. Has some experience as a return specialist and showed some promise in that area both as a PR and KOR.

Weaknesses: Lacks ideal playing experience. Only played one full season at DI-A level. Shows inconsistent technique. Comes out of his pedal too high at times and will get off balance in those instances. Has a tendency to gamble and jump routes prematurely. Looks less comfortable in zone coverage and must improve his overall awareness in that facet. Durability is a concern following broken foot in 2004.

Overall: Joseph earned All-Conference honors as a defensive back at Coffeyville Junior College in 2003. He transferred to South Carolina prior to the 2004 season and earned a starting cornerback position for the first two games before he suffered a season-ending broken foot in the first quarter of the Georgia game. Joseph returned as a fulltime starter in 2005 and finished the season with 55 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions and nine broken up passes in 12 games. He also averaged 23.5 yards on six kickoff returns and returned one punt for two yards in 2005. Joseph showed an awful lot of intriguing qualities in his one full season as a starter at the DI-A collegiate level. He has adequate size, excellent speed and natural playmaking instincts and ball skills. Joseph also supports the run hard and is a solid tackler, which should lend to him contributing on special teams right away in the NFL. However, the uncertainty generated by lack of experience and durability issues makes Joseph a dangerous proposition. From what we've seen of him in comparatively limited viewing, Joseph possesses the potential to develop into a difference maker as a fulltime starting cornerback in the NFL. That's why we grade Joseph out as a second round prospect.

See... I do think he is more of a square peg in a round hole kind of guy... but its my opinion and I respect yours...

As for a DT at 16... Ngata will probably be gone... but a guy I am starting to come around to at 16 is Brodrick Bunkley out of FSU. The kid is a beast and he really sold me when I watched him during the combine. He is freakin jacked! Solid muscle and not fat at all... real cut. He is also very athletic. He put up 44 reps in the bench press... 1 short of the most in the combine. As of right now I see him as an Under Tackle in our defense... but if he bulks up he can eventually shift to NT...

And I dont really like Justice... I cant really explain why... Just not a fan...

I like Marcus McNeill more than Justice... but I think we could probably get McNeill a little later in the 1st... and if we are targeting him we should probably trade down a little...

From reading the reveiw... the fact that he is uncomfortable in zone would make me slightly uneasy...

However, he sounds pretty good otherwise. How big is he? You said 6'0, but what does he weigh? What did he run his 40 time in?

And besides the broken foot... has he had any other injuries?

Well the fact that he is still kinda raw can really improve his zone play and with good coaching make him more comfortable.
He weighs 187 pounds. He ran his 40 in 4.36 at the combine!
No other injuries that I could find or that I know of.
