UPDATE: Stadium proposal APPROVED/Ross will sign a 30 year lease with Miami-Dade

Fans complain that the seats are not close to the field, and that its too hot on gameday, and that they can't see the field. The owner offers to pay $350 million of his own money to add seats closer to the field, put a canopy over the stadium, upgrade the sound system, replace the stadium lights, replace all of the seating, and retrofit the club level. I don't understand what there isn't to like about that.

The state, city, community and businesses all benefit from having a premier sporting event like the Super Bowl in their city. It's been proven that sporting events are integral in supporting many local businesses and creates jobs. The argument will always be that a Billionaire owner is trying to get richer while getting the common man to pay (taxes). yet big business is and will always be the engine of economic stability to matter what the industry. There are ghost towns all across North America that are reminders of what happens to a community when industry finds doing business there unprofitable.

If the dolphins moved tomorrow Miami would still be a premier destination and would suffer a minimal overall impact financially. In fact the largest revenue to come to this area was a non super bowl year. The jobs created from football for the region are also quite minimal in the the grand scheme of things. Lets not act like it would be Disney World shutting down in Orlando which would have a catastrophic affect on the Orlando area. There are benefits of having a sports team but definitely not the benefit that the NFL tries to sell to the public. Lets not act like the NFL just comes in and makes the area all this money without benefitting just as much from the locale. THE nfl has never had the positive impact on any city that other businesses have had that have made a city something it was not already. Basically what I saying is that no city all of sudden became a destination year after year because they had an NFL team. LA's financial shape has not changed one iota good or bad with the absence of an NFL team. New York does not in reality have one NFL team in its city and yet its still a prime destination for everything.
I would hate to see the Dolphins leave Miami and very much doubt it ever happens but the taxpayers of the city don't owe Ross jack crap. People act like these owners purchase these teams for the good of the community and not for their status and the chance to sell for much more later on. For the record I like the way the new proposal sounds but people act like Ross is doing so much for the fans like tickets wont cost a 100 dollars or parking 40 and so on. Personally I don't think I should pay more for a damn hotel to help Ross pay for a stadium but that's me.

What is the expected outcome of the vote?????

I moved out of South Fl so I was wondering if the news down there has an idea of how the vote will go. I HOPE they agree to deal seems fair & keep the Fins where they belong with an updated stadium!

Not sure which way the vote will go. Meeting is going on right now, and there is talk the vote could come within the hour. Though it should definitely happen before 4:00PM.

I will say this...if this fails and was Ross, I would look to move the team. It would be obvious that the community does not care about the fins and moving them is simply a business option.

Those like Alex Marvez that state Ross would never do that because he "owns the stadium" are simply stupid. Move the team, flatten the stadium and create an industrial park. Ross would make just as much money if not more compared to the usual dormant stadium.

South Florida needs to get on board.

He's already said numerous times that he's not moving the team.

Ross is bending over backwards and paying the price for the governmental idiots being scammed by Loria, the biggest flim flammer owner in sports. Essentially they're now taking him to task for their own stupidity.

Most of his peers have gotten lucrative deals structured a whole bunch of different ways with minimal state and/or municipal obstruction. Even Braman, who was so against the proposal last year, when being the (terrible) owner of the Eagles, tried to get the city of Philly to deed a bunch of land to him as well as help on the stadium wihile being able to keep the lions share of the revenues. Talk about hypocritical ****heads. I don't know what more this guy could do.

Discussion and voting has been going on since shortly after 11:00AM. Based on the comments of the comissioners so far, sounds like it will pass. Will update once they do the final vote.

It just passed according to Doug Hanks of the Herald.

Yeah, based on Barreiro being a yes, Hanks thinks it should be enough. Just waiting for the official verdict, but it looks like it will happen. Some other comissioners(who are expected yes votes) haven't spoken yet.

Dolphins stadium deal passed with 7-4 voting.
