UPDATE: Stadium proposal APPROVED/Ross will sign a 30 year lease with Miami-Dade

Roof is good. Happy they are trying to put more seats closer to the field.

But ... with the stands built so leisurely and so far away, it will never be a cauldron of noise. These things help, but it's never going to sound like the Orange Bowl did.

Hopefully the roof gets more butts in the seats for day games. That will help the team more than anything.

lack of a roof did not deter us from averaging 72,000 fans a little over a decade a go. If u want to fill seats, winning is the solution and no one winning season followed by 5 losing seasons.

Glad Ross finally put the rumors to bed. I have been thinking about it and i couldn't bring myself to cheer for any other team but my Miami Dolphins

Dolfans,

We have an important announcement regarding the home of your Miami Dolphins: following today's Miami-Dade County Commission vote, Mr. Ross will be privately funding the moderization of Sun Life Stadium and we will be breaking ground in the next few weeks. Upon completion, Sun Life Stadium will be a first-class facility, which will bring Super Bowls, College Championships, international soccer and concerts to South Florida for decades to come.

Be a part of this exciting evolution - click here to book your Membership tour today or call us at 1-888-FINS-TIX!

New features will include:

Open air canopy to provide shade/cover

Brand new seats in the entire stadium

Completely renovated concourses and concessions

Brand new suites

Several brand new/unique seating & club options for fans, businesses and families

4 new high-definition video boards in each corner of the stadium
The stadium will be modernized in phases, in a manner that will not impact any football games. Many of the renovations will be done for the 2015 season and the remainder will be completed by the 2016 season.

The drawings look a little like the white tents on Denver International Airport here in Colorado. They are supposed to look like the mountains. As long as they provide some shade and don't go flying in a hurricane, I am cool with it. But it probably means no new stadium for the next 30 years, but if it can bring Miami some more Superbowl hosting, that's fine.

Maybe we following the Jags lead and putting in pools and cabanas...

Stadium capacity will drop from 76,000 to 65,000 once the renovations are complete.

Interesting indeed

No big deal since only about half of the capacity is ever filled.

Completely bull**** statement. When has Miami only drawn 35k a game?

Canes games often look half full, if that

But yea 1/2 is an exaggeration for the fins

Despite calls for a new stadium on this board (including myself), realistically this was always the #1 option. Ross owns the land, the site is already established, the location is good for travelers/traffic . . . the only negative was the idea of putting "lipstick on a pig". We'll see how this all works out but at least signing a 30 year lease should ease these silly "move the team" concerns.

Interesting that PFT was always quick to point out the failures of the past in regards to the push for the renovation. Always on top of the votes last year and up to the minute updates. Today the renovations were approved and the project finally can move forward. Not a peep from them about this. Though they did make sure to bring everyone the news about Will Yeatman being signed by the Texans.

There are two things I need when I go to Sun Life, a Dolphins football game and cold beer. As long as they keep providing those I will return.

Boy Nublar I noticed the same thing. Not a word from PFT. Florio was clearly hoping they would move. They could win five consecutive Super Bowls and he would criticize them. PFT is emblematic of everything that is wrong with journalism today. He simply just pushes his agenda and that of his sources

So what are they going to do with the giant HD screen they currently have? It looks like they are going to ditch it and add 4 smaller corner screens instead.
