Very Mediocre Draft

Being a team captain seems to have little to do with Character ask Mike Pouncey.

If your point is that being a team captain is no guarantee someone will be a positive influence in the locker room, I don't disagree, but I think it probably increases the chances. Further, I wouldn't be surprized if Hickey made some calls to the coaches of these kids to ask about their character. Ireland clearly wasn't concerned with the issue. The fact that Hickey wants to build better locker room leadership early in his tenure is, imo, good for us in the long run.

You like 5 of the 6 players, and that's not only mediocre, but VERY mediocre?

I respect everyone's opinion, but it seems like most people aren't angry about the players but the WAY they were acquired. -which will be ultimately forgotten in one years time.

mostly we had good to great picks but it was very mediocre. is there a rule that only dumbasses create threads?

I could care less what initial impression are of the Draft. How many times on paper have teams had GREAT drafts and it's translated on the field? How many have had "mediocre" drafts and its turned out well?

Bottom-line nobody really knows what they hell they have on paper until the hittin begins!!!

That's true, but we have nothing else to do. :tumbleweed:

This was a plug the holes draft to fix the main problems with the team. You've got to admit, they fixed the OL, got an ILB, Secondary player, and possession/over the middle receiver, punt/kinck returner, and chain moving TE. Some felt we need a RB, either the staff felt differently, or didn't like what was available.

If Hickey keeps drafting like this our team is gonna be the FCS All-stars. The picks all seem solid but it seems like our FO got out-savvy'd on the telephone.

I'm reading that a couple of our guys already had trouble w the law / tossed out of their schools. I don't follow college ball so I can't comment on any of these guys. All it takes to have a "great" draft is for a single pick to turn into a complete stud - regardless of what round they were taken. If we can cut the sack numbers in half or better this year we should be a playoff team. Just my humble opinion.

As far as I'm concerned, we bolstered the O-line as needed, and picked up a blocking TE. All the other players are just filler for depth. If we could subtract just 10 sacks from last year, we beat buffalo, we beat Baltimore. Maybe the draft as a whole wasn't so great, but where we needed help the most, we got it. Will they pan out is the question.

Who is to say that James would of made late 1st round? You can't predict teams. Some teams might reach for the best at a position. We did that with Pouncey a few years back and no one is complaining now.

If we would have traded down with Saints...I would be very happy with this draft.

I like who we got...just feel we missed an opportunity that unfortunately tarnishes the perception of this draft.

With that said...it won't matter if the picks succeed.

I think everyone is underestimating TE Lynch. He is not just a blocker, he was Murray go to guy on third down at UGA. My concern about him he seemed he was injured a lot. I think he is going to be better than expected.

The strong emphasis on being a team captain was just for appearances for the league and for Philbins survival as the coach. It is an unnecessary factor on teams with strong head coaches.
The talent level on this team needs to be improved. There is no place on the score board for the number of leaders on the team.
This draft strikes me as a continued attempt to rehabilitate the Fins image by picking team captains. That is not what the draft is supposed to accomplish. Martin and Incog continue to affect this team.
After round 3, the players are pretty similar in talent so it cannot hurt, but the idea that the staff apparently made it a priority is strange.
On top of all that, Pouncey and other players make stupid tweets. How is "team captain" going to stop an idiot from doing something stupid? These guys are paid mercenaries. It isn't college.

The coach needs to have the iron to control the players. Philbin strikes me as a guy that cannot control a rowdy bunch of guys. He is a librarian coaching a team. He needs a group of "team captains" to be his muscle.
The existing captains on this team do not respect him. That is why he is drafting another core of Captains.
Am I wrong with my analysis?
