Vickerson's ACL strained, not torn

Although I am sure that a strain is not near as bad as a tear, this is the part where I ask if anybody can give any details about an ACL strain.

besides the obvious medical differences between a strain and a tear? a strain will take about half as long to heal...

Harvey Fialkov, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports Miami Dolphins head coach Nick Saban said rookie DT Kevin Vickerson (knee) has a strained ACL of the left knee, and may not require surgery. There is no word yet on how long Vickerson will be sidelined for.

I know a tear is usually the season but, I would think a strain would be around 4 to 6 weeks(at most). I have never had either during my play time so I really don't know. Not to mention some body types respond quicker to rehab than others. Does anyone know the general recovery time frame on this type of injury?

Your sign is killing me, she's my ex girlfriend. I think he has to wind up on the PUP list if he is still eligible. It's not a 2 week injury, and we can't waste a roster spot.

yeah, ^^ that.

Vickerson is a project anyway and would not offer a lot of contribution this year anyway. put him on the PUP and let us save that roster spot where we can use it.

First off -- An acl cannot be strained -- only muscles can be strained.... An ACL can be sprained and this is = to a tear. We grade strains 1 = microtrauma, 2= a partial tear 3= complete rupture. An ACL sprain can depending on the degree can take anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months to heal...

EDIT: although if he can play through the pain and keep his hammies and quads strong he might be able to play if this is in fact just a partial sprain.
