Was Jordan

You dont think OV played well enough or something? Or did you not watch any games this season?

well thats one player player still could have made more of an impact but we all know he is a huge liability versus run

I have to agree even when JT manned the edge his size was a liability against the run. LOVED THE GUY THOUGH.

I would say miss on this year, but not writing him off yet. But seems a little crazy that you trade up to the #3 spot to get a project. Which clearly this guy is. You've got to expect to get significant playing from the #3 overall pick in any draft, even in his first year.

He was not great against the run but compared to Jordan he was stout versus the run.

Of course he is a bust--only the so called "experts" here dispute that...

Not a bust yet but based on one season he was not a good selection at number three overall and giving up picks.
Further evaluation may change that I time but after year one its a bad pick, maybe year two proves the value

Jon Gruden probably had the most accurate summary to date, immediately after the selection:

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/spor...pick-fins-draft-notes-agent-rips-marlins.html

“I really like Jordan’s athleticism but I’m shocked by this pick. [At Oregon] he plays six plays, he’s out six plays. When you watch Jordan play 70 snaps in an NFL game, that will be first time you ever seen him do it. He’s narrow. He’s got a shoulder problem. There’s a lot of unknown right now.

“No question he’s a great edge rusher, does an excellent job getting off the ball and beating tackles with edge pressure. [But] I don’t see inside moves. Everything is to the outside. For him to be a great pro, he will have to do more than just rush around the edge.”

wow its like he was inside my head on draft day lol

You can say the same thing about almost every pass rusher in college. They all have limited pass rush moves coming into the NFL. Everyone on here acts like every player Miami drafts will never get better. People were ripping Olivier Vernon after last season because he couldn't rush the passer and he was too small to play the run, but he got a lot better and stronger this season and is turning into a really good pro. Jordan showed flashes of being a special type of defender. Can we please give him more than one NFL season, especially one in which he was rehabbing an injured shoulder limiting his ability to build strength, before we declare him a bust.

so were comparing a guy who played around 13 years to a guy in his first year?

Jason Taylor was not that good his first year. He had no moves. His strength needed serious work. But it was his determination to be great that got him there.

This is where Jordan needs to focus.

The other guy was Lane Johnson. So are people saying Lane Johnson should have been taken? Well, I seem to remember alot of people around here crying for a DE whether it was Jordan or the kid from Fla. St.

How is that guy doing in Indy? Is he making a big impact like people said he would?

Someone on here mentioned Patterson. Seriously? We had all our WR's already.

In hindsight, we should have drafted the Tackle. But what impact is he making in Philly? Fisher ended up being a RT. Was he all that? You wont know until years 2 & 3. The advantage these guys have over Jordan is more PT. Jordan cant develop as quickly if much ifhe doesnt get more PT. He didnt really flash much at all at the end of season and its obvious he is limited this year mentally.

Which is why I get to my next point.

The dude just said he needs to get better and get working on it. That to me is step 1. He didnt get a normal offseason and had to finish school. Then the labrum thing. So he had a set back. It happens in this league you know. At least he didnt get his knee blown out like a lot of others.

So the kid will have his eyes on getting better, which is what this league is really all about. If you have no work ethic and desire, you have nothing.

He is not a bust because of this. He will be a bust if he doesnt take this offseason by storm and get in that weight room and then work on moves that Jason Taylor had to learn to get to the QB. He looks very raw like JT did in his first year. But by year 3, JT was feared.

This was my argument against Jordan in the begginning. I compared him to JT but JT was a 3rd rd. comp pick from Akron. So my thought was why take this kid at 3 overall if he may take that long to develop?

I wrote him off. But isnt it about who you are eventually and not just year one? Very rarely do high draft picks become PB overnight.

But whatever.....this is really about Ireland and how he sucks at drafting.....so happy new years everyone!

the major difference between Taylor and Jordan.
Jordan was the prize of our draft from a major school who didn't do enough to get on the field more through injury and his deficiencies while Taylor a guy from a small school forced his way onto the field by making plays .
In the end Jordan may be a good player but as the number three pick in the draft its expected that he should come in and do more. Have no clue why any team including us would take him number three overall Ireland or not. Most people loved the pick on the board , many that hated Ireland. I hated the pick regardless that I felt Ireland reached his expiration with Sparano

he did awesome when he was in, he almost sacked the QB everytime I seen him in. and he looked like he was getting a lot better each and every time they ran on him. He will play a lot more this year, hopefully a blitzing LB, take Wheelers spot please!

No he is not a bust. Olivier played well and having Wake on the other side, he wasnt suppose to get a lot of snaps. It would of been asinine to take minutes away from Olivier and Wake, just because Jordan was a high pick.
