Watching two former Dolphins last night

In case you haven't been following the Ray Rice issue, the issue with Brandon Marshall was also domestic violence. Until moving to Chicago he had a long history of beating up his partners, going back to his college days at Central Florida (it's the reason he fell to the 4th round). In fact I read where the Police came to his home 33 times over matters of domestic violence (including him getting stabbed with a glass vase) over the years, but he always got off. In the end, Ireland had had enough of him. Denver gave up on him before he came here.
Brandon Marshall has a mental health issue - Borderline Personality Disorder - BPD and the good news is that since moving to Chicago that he has had success in handling it. He still has it but he gets the treatment he needs to better cope with life.

The National Institute of Health defines BPD as:
A serious mental illness characterized by pervasive instability in moods, interpersonal relationships, self-image, and behavior. This instability often disrupts family and work life, long-term planning, and the individual's sense of self-identity. Originally thought to be at the "borderline" of psychosis, people with BPD suffer from a disorder of emotion regulation. While less well known than schizophrenia or bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness), BPD is more common, affecting 2 percent of adults, mostly young women.

Hey, thanks for this. I think the Rice thing is despicable and I never really followed the Marshall off the field problems very closely - perhaps ignorance on my part or there is just more visibility today w this stuff. I was simply reacting to watching BM catch 3 TDs. Too bad he couldn't get it together personally here because he's an incredible player. I do find it hard to believe the best we could have done was 2 no 3's. On a purely personal note if he has learned how to manage is disorder then that's really more important than football in the grand scheme of life.

getting rid of marshell was another brain dead move....drafting martin, a pro offensive linemen that benches less than me, is never a good idea.

I get bashed for beating a dead horse anytime I bring up the horrific, disgraceful Brandon Marshall trade. It really is as bad of a trade as I can think of. Off the top of my head, I really can't think of a worse decision made by a professional sports team recently.

2. Jonathan Martin - looked EXACTLY the same as when he was here. Got abused for two sacks by the same d-man late in 4th quarter so he was pretty much on schedule in terms of when his melt downs occur.

Late yesterday afternoon, I wondered if Jared Allen would be lined up @ LDE and have a field day? Sounds like he did.

1. Remind me again why trading Brandon Marshall was a good move for us? I lost count of how many TDs he had.

Thank you someone else finally realizes this! Trading him for two 3rd-round picks was possibly the dumbest thing Jeff Ireland did.

Allen had a big game but they had Martin on the other end - Willie Young I think. Late in the 4th w SF down by one score, Young abused Martin inside and sacked CK. Next drive he blew by him to the outside and got CK again. Collinsworth was very critical of Martin saying something like "you have to slow him down at least a little to give your QB a chance". Then he said something like "that's why Martin is a backup"

And the guys we got - Egnew being one of them - were duds.

Why are we being fair to Martin?
Based on what I've read and heard, both publicly and privately, I have a VERY low opinion of Jonathan Martin as a person. As low as I have of Richie Incognito, just to be clear. But I am just being honest about what I saw on the football field. Martin was a disaster in the 4th, terrible in fact, but he was far from the only 49er to collapse with the game on the line. They did not lose because of him.

oh agree. It was a team collapse there - too many TOs.

With all of the QB bashing on this board I'm shocked no one in this thread has mentioned how poorly Kaepernick played. He singlehandedly lost the game for the 49ers. There is no way the Bears could have come back without his 4 turnovers.

I hate the what-if game, but friggin A, Marshall would be perfect for Tannehill. Big and physical with a huge catch radius and fights for the ball. Basically the opposite of Wallace. Getting rid of Marshall is probably my least-favorite Philbin move out of many bad ones.

I was always against the Brandon Marshall trade. Just one of many stupid Ireland moves.

I blame Philbin for that moreso... he was bent on getting rid of anyone who wasn't his type of guy

Ha - me too. Did you notice Collinsworth kept calling him a "backup"? I found that interesting.

Funny thing is that he is a backup but Jeff Ireland had him pegged as our starting LT and he was replaced by Bryant McKinnie. Chalk that up to the slew of high draft picks that are no longer on NFL rosters from The Ireland era.

You guys got it all wrong some chick in a club claimed Marshall punched her on the face but no proof was ever found. It wasn't because of domestic violence.
