HMM maybe a deformed penis. lol

Just interesting that a league that makes this kind of money makes it off of mostly publicly funded stadiums.
know the lockout is long gone and everyone has quickly forgiven the NFL, but this story really made me raise an eyebrow. I'm on the subway yesterday, thumbing through the Wall Street Journal (because that's how I roll) and I see this story about how the NFL signed a new 10 year $2.3 billion deal with Pepsi, which is one of the largest sponsorship deals in sports history. It encompasses a number of Pepsi brands (Pepsi, Frito-Lay, Tropicana, Quaker Oats and of course Gatorade) all of which will be the official something or other of the NFL.

This deal, combined with a number of other new sponsorships, ticket sales projections & TV ratings mean that the NFL is projecting record revenues of over $9.5 billion this season. In fact, analysts have had to revise their projections up $100 million from earlier this year.

Remember, this is the league who said their situation was so untenable that they needed to lockout their players this summer and put the fans through months of angst and misery. And when you look on the horizon, with things like the rumored Thursday game package likely to be sold, the revenue is set to go up exponentially from here on out. In fact, the NFL is even looking into sponsorship deals with tablet companies to allow coaches to use computers on the sideline. Let's just hope they're laminated. o did the lockout ever really have to happen and should we really be forgiving it so soon? In the end, the NFL is more like a cigarette maker than any other business. It doesn't matter how wrong we thought they were this summer, we can't quit them. I know I can't... but I also can't deny that stories like this me really annoyed at what we were put through this summer.

Weatherford is doing damage control to try and keep his political career going. He can spin it how he wants, but the fact is the House had the votes to pass it and he blocked a local election. The people should have had the right to vote and make their opinion heard, not one man.

I dont think he is spinning that he made no promises to Dolphins because too many of his members w0uld know this info. Its spin on both sides but really it was stupid to start election on something that is waiting to be decided .
oh sure when the dolphins offer an explaination you are quick to shoot it down and discredit it, however when this guy says something, it's the honest truth?

Well we will never know if we had the votes supposedly it was a high bar vote which needed 2/3 majority to pass.
I personally feel the state should vote on the tax breaks to these teams and the city should vote whether to raise bed taxes.
As voters I think any of us have a right to feel that way, and any indignation from the voters is acceptable but the false indignation of Ross who never even wanted a vote, who wanted basically that it just get passed in state is pure bs.

I still am quite curious why there were no recent polls of how public felt about the actual vote they were facing. Have never seen a poll so hard to find.

Ok found one
http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/riptide/2013/04/poll_only_22_of_miamians_suppo.php

According to the survey, conducted by Armando Ibarra for TeleMiami, 63 percent of local likely voters oppose the plan. As Political Cortadito points out, that stat is a bit better than one revealed two months ago, when a poll conducted by an FIU professor found opposition at 73 percent. Still, things aren't exactly looking good for the Fins.

The proposal is much more unpopular than other controversial initiatives being considered, such as legalizing gambling and hiking sewer fees to help fix the county's aging infrastructure.

Now a poll is not gospel but havent seen a poll that said the residents favored the bill.

Exactly, let the people decide for themselves. This guy isn't a very good liar

guess we'll never know if they didnt have the votes.....its called playing politics.

braman is prob behind this. promise to deliver votes.

I used to be a republican, now im just a rebel.

If a Florida politician predicts sunshine ahead, I'm packing an umbrella. Afterall, the collective wisdom of our voters, elected Rick Scott, our governor who was the guiding light behind an organization that manipulated the biggest medicaid fraud on US taxpayers in history. Of course possibly the next Mark Foley, David Riviera or John Edwards slimy-side politician pandering to an electorate in the Tampa area also in competition for future Superbowls, and presiding over a last minute relaxation of campaign contribution laws to benefit their select few club, is gonna offer up self-serving explanations. And this is the House Speaker who presides over "bidness" of the state that an independent study labeled "the most corrupt state in the union." To give any of those jackals the benefit of the doubt over the Ross and the Fins with their considerable financial exposure, IMO says more about "Wily Will's" enablers, rationalizers and excusers than it does about The Fins. Just connect the dots.

Florida: ''We're No. 1!'' for political corruption
TAMPA BAY, Florida - It may seem like a different Florida political figure finds him- or herself embroiled in scandal every week.

But in reality, it's every five days.

On Wednesday, the non-partisan watchdog group Integrity Florida will release a report identifying the Sunshine State as number one in the nation for political corruption.

From 2000 to 2010, there have been 781 federal convictions on corruption charges in Florida. That's an average of one every five days for 10 straight years.

"The corrupting influence of money in politics is the defining issue of our time," said Dan Krassner of Integrity Florida.

Integrity Florida's report will include lapses in the laws that allow:

Elected - and nominated - officials to work for lobbying firms.
Legislators to keep conflicts of interest secret until 15 days after a conflicted vote.
Elected officials to blow off fines from the state with little-to-no penalty.

Furthermore, Krassner says the biggest problem is that the Florida Commission on Ethics can't launch an investigation of its own without first receiving a formal complaint.

"Florida's state ethics enforcement officers can't even start an investigation on their own," Krassner said. "Imagine any other law enforcement officer in Florida seeing a crime in progress and not being able to pursue the suspect. That's the state of ethics law enforcement in Florida today."

But it was the state of ethics law enforcement in 1999, too, when Governor Jeb Bush created the Public Corruption Study Commission. Many of the group's suggestions were ignored.

Recent scandals in Greater Tampa Bay include:

Kevin White, Hillsborough Co. Commissioner - Found guilty of bribery, sexual harassment; accused of voting conflicts

Jim Norman, Hillsborough Co. Commissioner/State Senator - Admitted he never disclosed a $500,000 gift to his wife or assets related to the deal; accused of accepting money to influence a vote and soliciting/accepting a gift from a lobbyist

Rob Turner, Hillsborough Co. Property Appraiser - Admitted to sending porn to co-worker; accused of sexual discrimination

Vern Buchanan, U.S. Congressman - Under investigation for trying to get a former business partner to lie to the Federal Election Commission, a federal ethics and House of Representatives violation.

Pat Bean, Hillsborough Co. Administrator & Renee Lee, Hillsborough Co. Attorney - Accused of state ethics laws violations in giving themselves raises without permission.

I dont trust either one of them. Weatherford is a politician so he is born to lie and Stephen Ross has told a few whoppers already as owner.
The fact remained days ago that Weatherford stated the dolphins had an uphill fight. He said day before last day of sessions he made no promise and he didnt get it voted so whats unbeleivable about what he has said. Im just saying he said before session he made no promise and he said the same afterward. He said these things publicly. Why should I beleive otherwise just because this is what Ross claims.

The haters can support Weatherford and say that the Fins did not have the vote. However, there was one way that Weatherford could have proved it. Let the vote go to the floor and see what happens. If Weatherford was correct and the bill would not have the support, then it would have failed and Dee and Ross would be mostly to blame. But by denying it the right to be voted on we will not know. Weatherford is just another sleezy politician that is saying "trust me, I know whats best for you."

And this should suprise who. Those same corrupt people were quite siding with Ross . Hell in the year 2000 we showed what a mess the political mess that Florida is and years later nobody cared.
We had a damn national election with all kinds of weird issues going on but now people think its a bigger issue now lol. I dont think our state is alone and you have to blame the voters that continue to put up with their government. I mean look at South Carolina electing friggin MArk Sanford to a congressional seat. Miami had to recall the last mayor over all kinds of crap. Seriosuly though would you think our system was somehow better if they had voted on this bill, still the same issues. Why should I trust Ross more than the same polictians he empowers with tons of lobby money and backs in elections. He is just as much a part of the problem as any of them. I for one seperate my love of fins from love of a billionaire owner that makes these types u describe more powerful everyday.

This happens with many bills though its not like this was the only bill. Same thing happened with MArlins bill.

Dlockz, you have some vested interest in this? You don't even support Matt Ryan this fervently

Dlockz, do you sleep?? That Watchmen pin is just everywhere in these threads every hour!

No I just think its hypocritical. This bill was not just about giving dade county the right to vote on bed taxes. There were tax rebates , transportation bills and so on.
Im just trying to figure out why early voting was going on about an issue that had not been resolved. Why the people that decide there is no vote are more corrupt than the ones that were ready to vote yes based on lobby money. I think there are a bunch of untrustworthy people calling each other untrustworthy. I personally am getting so tired of sports to a degree. Dont get me wrong and you know this from how much i post nI love football and sports but the fun is truly going out of being a fan. Cities and states are struggling nationwide as more and more public money is given to a leagues that in reality dont give one damn about the fan as they exagerrate economic impact and such. Not even sure why Im even debating this. if this had went to vote and then public voted it down, we know the nfl would not be like well the people voted it down so thats fair. Im not sure politicians could be any more corrupt than the NFL. its like OJ calling Rae Carruth a murderer
