What Are The Dolphins Cheerleaders Worth?

A lot of these cheerleaders are college students doing cheer leading as a hobby. Not everyone goes into certain jobs for the pay, but for the enjoyment and experience. I do believe they should be paid more, but they are obviously not doing it for the money.

Sorry but I for one think they should be making at least a yearly salary of 40 hours a week at min wage.

You can not be serious. This is the cheerleaders we're talking about. They are the most useless thing at the game. The fans do not need them to rout for thier team. They are there for eye candy for the sex repressed lunks that salivate at the sight of them. I do not think any one would notice if we got rid of all of them.

I have always been of the sort to say, if you don't like it leave. These days however, I think big business should pay up and shut up. No one knows how much such a job will help them later. It's like telling a camera operator to do this one for free, cause it will lead to beg things. They should make more, but should not get rich at it. 20k-40k depending on hours.

What is also wrong is a corporation paying you like a subcontractor and giving you orders like a real worker.

I would like to see the Dolphins show some leadership by raising the bar and setting a new standard for the league.

You know how many girls out there would do it for free...and are just as hot??? Think about it.

These girls more than earn minimum wage through the contacts they make, photoshoots, modeling etc. Being a Miami Dolphins cheerleader is a huge career boost for these girls. The lawsuit is BS...

Also, if you told these girls that the team would give them DOUBLE back pay for all the time they have spent, but they are no longer team cheerleaders....OR...shut their mouths and continue with the team. Which do you think they would choose?
A lot of professional athletes say they would do their job for free. But that's after they make millions and money doesn't matter anymore. The truth is, these girls must train hard. The thing I was most impressed with on my trip to Miami was how perfectly synced they are, how at events they are more than just pretty girls...they are ambassadors of the team. They are friendly, but also so courteous that you can tell there is some sort of code they go by, unless they are just naturally the nicest people you would ever meet. Plus, it can't be easy sitting or standing perfectly and smiling all the time when you are at these events, even in the moments where they are not actually doing a routine. I was very impressed with them and always tell people that the cheerleaders were the one things that was actually more impressive in person than what you see on TV or in pictures.
And the team stunk in the game I saw so there probably would have been a riot if the cheerleaders had not been there to entertain the crowd!
I'm not sure how they should be paid, but I am glad this is happening. I'm sure they will get more reasonable money and hopefully some benefits.

Cheerleaders know the pay going into it, yet there are still hundreds of girls trying out for the team every year. I think they set there own worth by willing to work for free. Are they being taken advantage of? Perhaps. But if you really have a problem with it seek other employment.

If there was no miniumum wage scale, there would still be hundreds of thousands of people lining up for jobs. If there were no child labor laws, there would be children wanting to work. The point of labor laws is to protect people and treat them fairly, not determine if there's a market for it. I'm sure there would be a huge market for slavery, but that's no longer legal, either.

The sad thing is some of the young ladies could make more waiting table. At least waitresses who earn 2$ an hour are compenstated with tips.

I love how large companies talk about these "ethics" and "moral guidelines" only to peddle products made in 3rd world countries in sweat shops.

They get paid $6 because that is what they are willing to accept. That is was they agreed upon for compensation. This isnt a hard job by any means, and cheerleaders are a dime a dozen. There are tens of thousands of women lining up to be cheerleaders. I agree they should be paid at least minimum wage for every minute they put in, but anything above minimum wage has to be determined by market - which is the amount of people qualified for the job to the amount of jobs available.

Comparing what's happening here to slavery is the head scratcher. These girls elect to be on this team and although monetarily aren't compensated for practice which is NOT mandatory for these girls(hence why they don't get paid). They find value in other aspects such as modeling opportunities and jump starting there career as an entertainer. They also go on a pretty amazing all inclusive vacation every year for the calendar shoots. Poor girls. If they need more money there are endless jobs that pay you for more than 8 days of work a year, I would try out for one of those.

The Raiders, after being sued, have agreed to pay cheerleaders the minimum wage of $9 per hour. So for all the gals time and effort, they get paid for practice and appearances, while making around $36 bucks for a game. Are these guys serious? Watch the fan reaction to this PR nightmare.

PR nightmare seems a little exaggerated. Personally I don't give a damn what they make. I would think most of them do it for the "prestige" rather than money. If they don't wanna be a cheerleader...don't be a cheerleader.

$125 for 3 hours of work is more than enough. It is a part time job that requires shaking pom poms, their behinds, and smiling. If they don't like their jobs, go to a strip club.

do you honestly think they *only* put in three hours of work 8 weeks out of the season? first, they have to maintain their shape to keep the job, and they do have to practice their routines, drive to and from work, buy and restrict themselves to certain foods... etc etc etc. Staying in that kind of shape takes time, money and dedication that very few of us really have, all for 125 dollars every other week?
