Fin Fan in Cali said:I understand that, but the question still stands, who will be the field coach if you trade Zach, and Junior retires?
Who says we need a "field coach"? I can't imagine paying two or three "field coaches" $3-5 million a year each. That's a lot of cap space for a "field coach."
I remember when we used to be a young and hungry team. Back when ZT, JT, Madison, and Surtain were in their mid-20s. They didn't need "field" coaches to blossom into top-notch players (Although we did bring in reasonably paid vets like Trace Armstrong, vets who weren't associated with a failed chapter in Miami Dolphin history like our current crop of JJ-era vets). We need to get some more picks so that Saban has a better chance of finding the next generation of gems like ZT (5th round pick), Madison (2nd round pick), and Taylor (3rd round pick). We've lost 18 of our last 25 games. Our JJ-era vets' days are numbered, and we're at least two more offseasons away from becoming a true contender again. By the time we're ready to contend again, all of our JJ-era vets will be in the twilight of their careers or retired. We need to truly rebuild. We need to focus on becoming a hungrier, and much younger, team.
