What did media pundits see we that didn't?

Coming from a Steelers fan, pretty much every person I have talked to whether at work or during fantasy drafts all agreed with these so called idiot media pundits. The talent level is just not there. Let's be real honest here. Looking at your team you have one decent player in the secondary who'd make a good 1b corner in Davis. The rest are awful including Sean "no lateral quickness" Smith who many seem to like here. Your D line is middle of the pack, nothing to write home about. Wake and Dansby could start on most teams, they are ballers but Misi is useless, JT too old. But that LB corp overall is actually your strongest unit by far. You have one malcontent WR who is a beast at times but is a head case who drops way too many passes for the money being spent. But still really good. Hartline should not be a starter in this league period. Gates has potential and should be decent. Fasano is average. Thomas runs hard and is a good addition. Bush is what he is, a glorified third down back. Your o line is laughable. Take it from me who has the worst line in football, yours is only slightly better. Henne is NOT a franchise QB. Therein lies the real problem. He goes with his first read and is incapable of improvising. Sure he will at least run when that first read is covered rather than take a sack like previous years but he stares guys down, is inaccurate, and has no touch on his passes. The fact that you are on year three of this experiment is sad. Last but not least, your FO is abysmal. The dolphins have been reaching in drafts for 'needs' instead of just taking the best player available. You of course need to draft for need but there has to be a balance. You going back to back 3-4 DEs and then back to back CBs...all on average to slightly above average players 3 and 4 years respectively was hilarious. Bill P. is so overrated and he did nothing but harm this franchise. Draft better...starting with a franchise QB and everything else takes care of itself. You need a G.M. with that skill, and then a coach who knows how to coach em up. You NEED to get a top 3 pick and get that player. Preferably Luck...because you will have only a 3-5 year window where the talent you have now will still be good. Basically everyone not a homer sees how bad the franchise is and there is nothing wrong with wanting the team to lose in order to start fresh with a franchise QB and better leadership. Those 'supposed' real fans who want the pointless 5 wins at the cost of Luck are idiots and deserve the poor teams being fielded.

Its the football, stupid!! (Not calling anyone stupid ... just stealing Bush's "It's the economy, stupid!!")

Where's the football? (Stealing Mondales's "Where's the beef??")

... as opposed to Rah-Rah-Rationlization Fandom!! Pundits at least try to talk football, we simply talk imaginary dreams & perceptions.

i.e. all summer there were long threads about our O-line being #6 (if they were horses the majority would be ready for the glue & dogfood factories ... sheesh!!)

Reality has no meaning when it comes to being fans.

And that's why I hate blind homers and their sites. There is no point trying to have a logical discussion because if you point out the shortcomings, of which this regime had MANY MANY MANY, you're accused of not being a real fan. And then when the end of the season comes, and we end up 5-11 or 6-10 the homers will make more excuses. **** rolls down hill and it has been for four years, its time to start over whether you like it, or anybody else on this site likes it or not. I'm 100% correct in this assessment, but don't worry I'll bring it up again at the end of the year. Fact is, I'd love to see the Phins win 10 or more games this year, they're just not capable of it, its just not gonna happen and thats that.....

What do mean the "WE" didn't. Some of us have seen this since last year.

LMAO @ This thread here.

Just gonna leave this right here...

JCane, FinHeaven SuperMod:
2011 Record: 5-11
Playoffs: No
Defensive Player Of The Year: Vontae Davis
Offensive Player Of The Year: Reggie Bush
Rookie Of The Year: Daniel Thomas
Brief Statement: Quite possibly the most deceiving preseason the NFL as a whole has seen in many, many years. The preseason was essentially an extended version of OTA's due to the lengthy lockout and after watching each preseason game twice, it's still very difficult to really predict how well our preseason translates to the regular season.
The defense should be a very bright spot for this team and they'll keep us in almost every single game, but at the end of the day, the NFL is all about the offense and I'm just not ready to purchase several shares of the Chad Henne stock. Chad showed serious promise in the preseason but he now has to be the one thing he's never been in his entire career: consistent. The schedule is very tough and I think many of us are looking past much improved teams (ie: Cleveland).

You forgot to add our safeties are bad and we have zero depth outside of the D-line.

It's not Ross. Why do people have something against Ross? Because they don't like pop music? Ross has done everything in his power to provide the resources this team needs to be competitive. Blame Ireland and Sparano. Hell, Ross bailed the sorry-*** fans out this past week so we could watch the game.

Bull****! It is Ross!!! He is the owner...he is the one who has the power to fire this bunch of bafoons. Forget about the "all night party" atmosphere this idiot is trying to create....and realize the he is the one where the buck stops. He is the ******* that lets us continue this spiral.

That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever read. It seems obvious he is trying to get these idiots out of here.

Tell me, what does it accomplish to get rid of them mid-season?

I thought Brady did a pretty good job of throwing away a superbowl by tossing picks to the Jets defense in the divisional round of the playoffs last year...

picks would be plural, he threw one pick on the first drive that didn't lead to points in the div rd. Just a tad different than throwing the pick for a TD that ended any hopes of winning the SB, wouldn't you agree?

If you have the power, you don't have to try to get them out. YOU GET THEM OUT, PERIOD. Ross needs to act deliberately however, not hasty.

The pick Brady threw didn't lead to points for the Jets because of a missed field goal.... Harris returned it all the way to the Pats 10 yard line or so. New England's defense held... it's not as if that pick SHOULDN'T have led to points.

The pick Manning threw in the superbowl is on Reggie Wayne in my opinion...

Either way, Peyton Manning is more important to his team's success than any player in the league... doesn't matter to me whether you agree or not.

I couldn't agree more, and we will see this over the next 14 weeks.

Before the season started almost every sports writer in a America had written us off as a bottom 5 team in the league. After 2 weeks... it certainly seems that we are.

This forum was abuzz with hope and optimism, and defending players on our squad regardless of the head scratching moves our FO made.

We are clearly a team in disarray. It sounds like Sparano is in jeopardy of losing the locker room. And it's only been 2 frigging weeks!

The biggest surprise of the season has been Buffalo by far. Chan Gailey... Frigging Chan Gailey has gotten that franchise playing well while we still are mired in futility.

What did we miss? winning is the only remedy. And it's likely not going to happen this season.

I would say they paid more attention to this team quitting on Sparano late last year than the homers did. Its not something a team usually rebounds from, and something I felt meant Sparano had to be replaced this year.

I'm sure many also thought it odd we replaced the OC of our 29th ranked offense with the OC of the 30th ranked offense.

But did it lead to points? and even if it had it was early in the 1st qtr, plenty of time to come back. Throwing a pick 6 down 7 w/ 3 mins to play is slightly worse, right?

of course it is on reggie Wayne, whenever Peyton fails it's always the fault of someone else and whenever the Colts succeed it is solely b/c of Peyton.

Peyton is vital to his teams success, just as Brady is. I don't think either is more important than the other. IOf they go down neither team is winning anything but when both are playing w/ SB caliber rosters around them it has been proven who is better.

Let's not compares apples and oranges w/ the '08 Pats to the '11 Colts.

they lost lockerroom distraction and overrated braylon edwards and picked up savvy veteran and lockerroom leader derrick mason who every year we played the ravens gave vontae davis fits...they lost injured all the time nt jenkins but did fine without him last year after he got hurt...they kept all world athlete cb cromartie to play that press man system and use that length to make plays on the ball...they kept holmes they added plax who gets away with pushing off more than randy moss did it seems if thats possible who may help them in the red zone where the offense wasn;t great last year...they added massive nose kenrick ellis in the draft who in time will probably be a monster...they drafted the 34 de from temple who so far looks pretty good wilkerson in round 1...

i just don't see where the jets got worse at all...damien woody was solid but hurt late last year and didnt want to play anymore...the oline is very solid and well coached...the only thing that team doesn't have on defense is a consistent win edge pass rusher and its why they have to blitz to get pressure so much...if they could sit back and let a say cam wake hunt on the edge that d would be inpenetrable pretty much...but its the one thing they don't have

i'm not betting against the jets anymore...i've learned my lesson the last 2 years and they went to the afc champ games

Thanks no rebuttle coing but the Jets lack depth in some key areas (Oline) (they have little to no natural pass rush) - they like to stack up on D every draft - they have experienced unusual good health to their own hogs up front until maybe this year - Woody was old and would like likely have retired anyway but he was real sore last year.

Dolphins additions

- Bush (he will be used outside of the tackles eventually)
- Pouncey can collapse the interior D (he pushed Wilfork into his own endzone on the goal line in the Pats game it is not Pouncey's fault a back has no instincts - Hillard missed the gapping whole on the right)
-Thomas upgrades the dancing crap we have endeared (100 yard game without a lead blocker)
-Burnett - upgrade over CC (perhaps not we'll have to see)
-Odrick is an addition - he played a few snaps last year - he will be good
-Daboll probably the greatest sigh of relief was that Henning is gone and at least as you say Daboll's thinking modren offense
-Gates a pick for the future

Does this translate into wins when a team is playing for a lame duck coach? I don't think so...

But the question of which team did better by way of additions and subtractions is not so clearly one-sided as some think - again adds and subs does not always translate into wins...

Football as you know is a marathon we'll soon see which teams have depth at certain positions - the Pats stand alone with depth but even they have a patch work secondary - they can outscore opponents so maybe they are not too worried.

The elephant in the room is Tony Sparano (Ireland potentially) so no matter how the FO switches up the chairs on the deck of the Titanic the players know the outcome...

Even TS and Ireland don't get along... P)layers know this and now they are playing like they are not personally accountable, Y.Bell and the leaders should shut the He-ell up have a closed door meeting and decide to play for each other and the fans

I think a good staff accounts for a few wins every year and we just tossed a potential victory diown the toilet a lot of hinged on coaching we missed two FGs but we can still overcome 6 pts
