What I believe is really going on with Fisher

More likely Miami. If he's asking for special clauses in his contract in St. Louis based on a potential move to Los Angeles that causes a sticky situation for the Rams. The Rams can't let it be known to their fans in St. Louis that they're thinking of moving.

I think it's close, just as people say. Whoever gives in to Fisher first, wins. But the Rams have to give up more in order to satisfy Fisher.

so that post i put up about LA was legit. i shoudl get some credit here, dont ya think? yeah right.

ok, what if Fisher doesnt get either job cus Ireland suddenly convinces Ross that he can do just as good with tons less money spent on Philbin or Zimmer?

do I get a steak dinner if I say neither gets hired and this is what I think right now?

anyhoo, good stuff ck. makes tons of sense, aside from the breaking news non-news crap we get every hour.

I've never considered that scenario, but when you put it out there CK, it makes sense of all that has been going on lately regarding Fisher.

i'm still asking... why is it that the guy FROM soCal, who lives in soCal, with fam IN soCal, has a problem with the former team from soCal thinking of relocating BACK to soCal, thereby making it a 'win-win-work-from-home' sitch for him?

He was the coach of a team that moved already, and it was a mess. I can imagine he wouldn't be fond of having to go through that all over again...

Ummm, so CK, you laid out an interesting theory for the rams holdup, but didn't really say anything about the Phins holdup. What is holding up the Phins offer???

Well reasoned and very insightful, CK. Far more depth in your perspective than the simpleton drivel from the likes of Mike Florio.

I find your take to be highly plausible and probable.

CK I always regard your posts pretty highly...but no offense dude, that sounds like "spin."

I'm not sure of what the scenarios are and I don't really care. The reports are that Fisher will decide, not the Dolphins or Rams but Fisher, on where he will coach. It took less time for the U.S. to decide to drop the A-bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki than Fisher has taken to decide where to coach. Tomorrow will be a week since he left the Rams headquarters...a week and now we're suppose to trust him as a guy who has final say on personnel, the V.P. of football operations...this guy is going to be the decision maker of the organization?

We only get 5 minutes to decide who we pick in the first round of the draft...hope he can get the card up to the commish in time before the entire draft is over.

By the way, is Denzel Washington a part owner of the Dolphins? We need a negotiator to free the fans from this hostage situation.

My speculation? Someone is in Stephen Ross's ear that is telling him to be careful about giving a coach the kind of control Jeff Fisher will likely get. It would be interesting if that someone is Carl Peterson, who basically arranged for Fisher to be interviewed in Miami.

Given that Ireland has "final say" written into his contract, I wonder if part of the reason Ross is hedging on making an offer to Fisher is because Ireland might either be threatening to quit rather than renegotiate or whether he has some kind of buyout or clauses written into his contract if that power were to be taken away from him.

In an interview last year Fisher talked about how when he had first became a head coach his job was like 80% X's and O's and by the time he left Tennessee it was only like 15-20% X's and O's. So, you wonder how much personnel power he really wants. But it makes sense he wants guarantees that Vince Young type situations aren't going to be forced on him ever again. It's just that giving him those guarantees might step on some contractual toes.

As a side note: one thing that worries me about Jeff Fisher become head coach is the potential he would bring in David Garrard.

But yeah, a good report. Makes sense to me.

I think you just hit the nail on the head.

This is not a straight forward situation for Steve Ross. He's caught in a bad spot. Jeff Ireland has authority written into his contract that Jeff Fisher wants in his own contract. Not necessarily final say, but it's clear Fisher wants personnel authority on SOME things. Maybe all, I'm not sure. But at the same time, the front office infrastructure of Miami is being cited by Fisher as one of the reasons he wants Miami. So Ross is stuck between a rock and a hard place. He can't just bully Ireland into giving up the power, because Ireland will quit, and then Miami will lose Jeff Fisher because Fisher likes Ireland. But Ireland himself doesn't really want to give up his authority I'm sure, even if he wants Jeff Fisher.

It's like a stalemate. But someone's got to crack so we'll see. Schefter says he expects something in the next 24 hours, which means Jeff Fisher expects something in the next 24 hours. But as Schefter says, Jeff Fisher expected this to be done two days ago, so who knows.

In short, Jeff Ireland.

Jeff Ireland is both a blessing and a curse, it appears.

He's a blessing in that Fisher really likes him and even would think about hiring him as his GM in St. Louis if that were a possibility.

But at the same time he's a curse because he CURRENTLY has the things written into his contract that Jeff Fisher wants written into his own contract.

Miami can't just take those things away from Fisher without his say-so. They'd have to fire him.

But oh, wait...Fisher LIKES Ireland. So if you fire Ireland then Fisher goes to the Rams and hires Jeff Ireland as his GM over there.

Tricky situation.

That really is a tricky situation. It's actually kind of fascinating in how ironic it is. This whole situation has the makings of a chapter in Fisher's book if ever writes one lol.

I've heard some different things to day and it's all interesting.

I've heard that Fisher wants the Fins, but how much control he gets is an issue

I've heard exactly what CK said about Fisher wanting to work with Ireland

I've heard that he wants the Rams, but the money isn't right

I've heard that the Rams have given up on Fisher and are going to hire either Chud or Ray Horton

I've heard that Miami is lining up another round of interviews like Mike McCoy

I've heard Miami is ready to give up on Fisher and is telling Zimmer to put a staff together.

Honestly, if we get Fisher fine, if not fine.

Nah. If Ireland was to quit that's even better for Fisher. He might say publicly that he likes Fisher - maybe it's true - but Fisher can just install his first GM choice (or in the unlikely event that was Ireland then he'd install his second GM choice). There are plenty of potential GMs out there - some of whom Fisher will know better than Ireland.

Thanks CK...I had speculated in a post that he was waiting for the Rams to get off the pot and the Dolphins were just being used...you pretty much back it up.
