i would accomodate fish also...this stuff about too much power is crap to me...anyways...if fish turns us down ck who do you think has the best shot at the job out of who we've interviewed??? zimmer???
So hard to tell. If Fisher's not here it's because Ross gave Ireland a vote of confidence. If that's the case, then Mike Zimmer has ties to Jeff Ireland and would make sense as a Head Coach prospect. Zimmer would also keep Bowles here as Defensive Coordinator (about 90% guaranteed), which probably appeals to Ross, and so Steve Ross can set his focus along with everyone else on getting a great offensive coordinator and/or great quarterback.
But at the same time, who knows if they're really sold on any of the other guys they interviewed. They could be waiting to see what other teams get popped out of the playoffs.
For instance, why isn't Rick Dennison getting some play? You know better than most how Ross was instrumental in bringing in Brandon Marshall and paying him a ton of money. "Rico" as Brandon calls him coached Marshall for a few years as offensive coordinator in Denver under Mike Shanahan. His offense in Houston is about the best coached I've seen all year. The success of their 3rd string rookie 5th round quarterback is a testament to that. Not to take away from what Yates has done, but he was 3rd string in camp and for half of the season. Getting him to play the way he's played is nothing short of a miracle, regardless of Yates' underlying talent. That offense has steamrolled on, and I heard something ridiculous like Andre Johnson, Matt Schaub and Arian Foster were only on the field all together for like one game all year, something like that.
Dennison was interviewed by the Broncos for their HC job last year. They ended up giving it to John Fox but the fact that Dennison was interviewed means that when he was with the Broncos as OC, he definitely impressed some people there to where they wanted him back. At one point, some believed Dennison to be the leading candidate.
I think you would be among those expecting the Texans' playoff run to end this weekend, so that would be a possibility as an interview in a continuing process.
Also, we've talked about Chuck Pagano. I think that would be a tremendous hire. If you're going to look at Mike Zimmer, why not Chuck? Why not go for the best? Ray Lewis raves about Chuck, claims that the renewal of that Ravens defense is directly attributable to him. If the Texans pull off the upset, why not interview Chuck?
There's a possibility for interviewing Carmichael but I kind of doubt it. I think he's still too green. But Vic Fangio could find himself eliminated and then he'd absolutely be worth an interview. The defenses that played overall the best this year and were the best coached, Fangio's was at the very top. And again, if you're thinking about a Mike Zimmer, why not a Vic Fangio?
I get the feeling that IF we do not get Fisher tomorrow...then the interviews will start back up again.
