What if nothing happens?

If nothing happens expect much of the same next season. Dolphins need to reconsider the direction of the QB position.

We should have made playoffs.

When Coyle came onboard we switched to the 4-3 from the 3-4. Personnel issues still exist from that switch. We added Ellerbe who is more of a 3-4 ILB than a 4-3 MLB, Wheeler sucks in any scheme, Vernon and Jordan are tweeners who would probably be better fits as OLB in a 3-4 same with Wake IMO. Odrick is a better fit as a 4-3 DT and I think Starks can play both schemes and Soliai was just coming into his own as a 3-4 NT when we made the switch. Really our front 7 is a mixture of different personnel that don't particularly work well for the 4-3...we still have more 3-4 personnel thanks to Ireland.

That's not to say that Wake and Vernon haven't done well rushing the passer but both have been inconsistent against the run but I can just imagine the fear in opposing QBs if we had both these guys standing up in a 3-4 rushing the QB.

We improved against the pass this year but we were much worse against the run and IMO that has to do more with the personnel in our front 7 than anything else. You don't go from 13th against the run to 24th against the run because the DC forgot how to coach.

You forget that Philbin and Coyle took over a Top 5 rushing defense and changed schemes. In the first year they dropped to 13th, and now it's around 24th or possibly worse. The coaching staff's changes ruined the run defense (with a little help from Wheeler and Ellerbe). Philbin and Coyle should have left the front 7 alone and concentrated on the secondary.

What if?

Simple. This team continues to flounder around in the 6-9 win range for a few more years.

The team would continue to be mediocre and I will continue to only go to games if somebody gets me a free ticket. Otherwise, I'm not wasting my time and money.

The only person who needs to go is Sherman. We need a more creative play caller who is a lot less predictable. Ireland and Philbin should both receive warnings that they need to get better results or suffer the consequences.
At 8 - 6 after the Patriots game we had good reason to believe that things were coming together. Do we purge the lot ie clean house just based on those last two games? They were absolutely terrible, but normally you don't totally change course based on 2 inept performances.

2011 called it wants its strategy and 0-7 start back. People that don't learn from history lulz.....

I often see people say "nobody's going to stop buying tickets because of the General Manager" but that's like the dumbest thing I've ever read.

People absolutely do stop buying tickets because of the coach or General Manager. Jeff Ireland is destroying this franchise.

We were also shredded on the regular by the top QBs, this defense has made some of the top QBs look pedestrian and that is whats needed to be a real contender. If our offense can ever get anything going we won't have to worry so much about the Thad Lewis' or the Geno Smith's because we'll have such a big lead that they won't be able to just keep pounding the rock.

Living in South FL and being friends with a lot of Dolphin fans, many of them have said the same thing to me. They will not go to games to support Ross and Ireland. Ireland is almost on the same level as Loria on terms of how many people hate the man.

In my line of work I know a lot of doctors, mostly surgeons from a specific discipline. South Florida doctors were for years a staple of the team's season ticket base. Most of the guys I know gave up their season tickets in the early 2000s because of Dave Wannstedt. Many of them never came back. A few years ago they started leaving in droves again because of -- you guessed it -- Sparano and Ireland.

Nobody wants that ticket anymore. It's part of the reason I stopped going to games -- nobody I need to schmooze with is going anymore.

Even if you pin the last two games entirely on Sherman, Philbin saw the Buffalo loss in which we were shut out and either did nothing to make sure this team was better prepared to face the Jets, or did something and failed miserably. Philbin doesn't get these guys to play hard for him on a consistent basis. Philbin needs to go. This entire coaching staff needs to go.

Remember 2011 when everyone knew we had to make a lot of changes (Sparano, Henne, etc.) and they proceeded to do absolutely nothing to get better and we all knew the team would suck before the season even started? That's what it would be like if Ireland and Sherman at the very least aren't gone. At least in 2011 we had the suck 4 luck bandwagon which made this board awesome. If it happens again I might give up for good.

The franchise will rot and rot, until it turns out another 1-15 or worse season. After which Squidward Ross will fire everyone out of desperation and anger and possibly sell the team.

All my teams suck from top to bottom, the Mets, the Knicks , The Islanders and the Dolphins. Football is my favorite sport and I have stuck with it longer than I have the other sports but I can only stand being pissed on so long by these teams. I imagine if Ireland and Co. are still with the team next season I will recede even further away from sports until I can get something to cheer for. There is no hope any more with these teams and I have other entertainment options that take up my time. Of course every year I like everyone else gets excited about the draft and the potential for a good result but every year we have nothing great to show for it.
