First, you brought up the Steelers, not me....you can attempt to make it sound like I am using a weak example but, I was just going on the one you gave...
Second, I just said in the previous post that I would be all for moving on from Hartline, if there was a player in place to take his spot. Right now the OL, LB, and DB, need to be addressed int he draft...why do they need to add another? One of the biggest issue with this team in the past was getting better in some areas, but downgrading in others....the filling holes by creating more holes philosophy of Ireland.
Third, you wrote a **** ton to basically say good teams are always trying to get better and younger, and I agree, the Dolphins should get younger and better....draft a WR if that young Wideout shows real promise then send Hartline off for a 3rd, 4th....who cares at that point....you have someone better. Again...I'm not against drafting to replace established player....I would just prefer to have someone in place to replace them before they do.....I don't want another Brandon Marshall trade to happen and the team be stuck with what they had in 2012 and end up with Dallas Thomas and Egnew in exchange for those picks.
Yeah, the team that quote focused on was not the Steelers. Here it is again, i'll even highlight the references to the team:
Want to know why the Cowboys are one of two teams (along with the Steelers) already over the projected $130 million cap, and consistently dealing with cap issues? This quote from Stephen Jones says it all: “Our philosophy over time has been that what you know is better than what you don’t know.” That means the Cowboys would rather retain their more expensive veteran players who may not live up to their salary than just go with cheaper younger players. That may have been OK in previous years, but it’s burned them with the flat cap since ’11. No wonder the Cowboys haven’t finished better than .500 the past four years.
Seeing as how they mentioned the Cowboys by name no less then 3 times, mentioned a high ranking front office official with the last name of the owner, and brought up their record(which is distinctly not the Steelers record over the last few years), you'll understand why i thought you randomly brought up Pittsburgh. It didnt even occur to me that you might have stopped reading at the team mentioned in the parentheses.
And the draft isnt for filling needs, its for getting the best players we can. Because teams always
need great players. It just so happens we have needs at every position on this roster with the exception of quarterback and defensive line. Thus, we really cant go wrong. As well, this is a loaded draft class at receiver. The idea behind trading away Hartline would be to replace him with a more talented player from said loaded class. So the need is immediately filled.
Im not against holding onto Hartline for another year despite the fact that i advocating spending our 1st round pick on a receiver. Players at that position historically need a year to develop. That said, you can only work with what you have in front of you. If someone offers us a deal for him this offseason(and id consider a 4th round pick a steal), you pull the trigger, because we likely wont get an offer next offseason. If there was a chance that we could be a contender this season i might hold off. But there isnt. Jeff Ireland ****ed us up something fierce and its going to take time to unravel.
And yes, if the choices are between drafting guys busts or keeping our player then we should obviously keep our player. But there is no reason to assume thats going to happen. People have gotten so used to the dysfunction that they assume we are going to fail at everything. Ireland has been fired. People can now expect, and demand, that our franchise is run as well as any of the top teams in the league. If Hickey screws the pooch(and i havent been impressed with him thus far), then he should be fired and replaced with someone who will run the team well. Theres nothing inherently wrong with this team, there isnt a black cloud floating over the stadium, a vengeful deity isnt punishing us for some imagined slight. Fans should have higher expectations for this franchise.
Finally, im forced to write a "**** ton" concerning simple subjects. If i dont, this forum tends to run away with absurd ideas. You know, like Hartline is worth more then a 2nd round pick. Stuff like that.
