What if...?

I hope qb will be a priority. And as dry as it's been for us in that dept., I wouldn't mind seeing a more aggressive philosophy whereby we assume we don't have a franchise qb until we're absolutely sure that we do. We lose too many damn years by having only one real option and taking 2-3 years to find out he's not the guy. Draft someone in 2015 and unless he shows he's without any doubt the guy, bring another on board in 2016. There's nothing wrong with having two young slingers competing for the job.

Maybe the biggest mistake in franchise history was firing Sparano midseason and allowing Henne to be benched. That allowed Ireland to stick around, cost us Luck and left us at the bottom of the barrel as far as coaching candidates willing to come here.

I'm not sure how that cost us Luck.

As far as Ireland sticking around, that was all on Ross and it wasn't going to be any different if Fistpump had finished the season. Ross liked Ireland and he was going to give him another year no matter what. I have a feeling that was the biggest issue in getting a quality coach: they knew they would be tied to Ireland.

If we dump Philbin this season, we approach our HC search in two ways. First, we try to attract a top tier candidate (Harbaugh, for example), and you give that coach the option of retaining Hickey or bringing in someone he's more comfortable with. Yeah, it sucks for Hickey if he loses the job after only one year, but this isn't about Hickey, it's about building a winning franchise. If we can't attract a top tier guy, then you put Hickey in charge of the search and he'll find someone he's comfortable working with. We need chemistry in the front office, not competing factions with different notions of the direction in which we should be heading.

Should be interesting.....I get OP

Two great games and two horrible games.

Tannehill has struggled with inconsistent play.

But if he puts up a smooth 300 yard game with 2-3 TD's and no stupid mistakes....forum will get spicy.

THIS is the point.

It isn't a "does this mean Tannehill is a good QB" question. It's a "will this forum dissolve into i-fights of an epic nature" question.

I think the OP and some others are under the impression that many here want RT to fail and would be very disappointed if he turned into the franchise back we've been hoping to find. The reality, at least in my case, is that RT has already failed. Throwing a good game against weak opponents here and there won't change that perception. The only thing that will change it will be consistent quality play and I just don't think RT is capable of that. Pretending to have a franchise qb when you really don't only means it will be that much longer before you actually find a franchise qb.

So the Raiders are a good team because they lost to the Pats even though the Pats were having a bad game?

Nope.

After last week with the "I told you so" Tannehill critics storming the castle, there would be an equally proportionate (and probably incredibly motivated) wave of "I told you so" Tannehill supporters striking back. I'm becoming a fan of chaos on this board.

That's going to happen regardless because this is a very large message board with a vast array of opinions that span the spectrum, from crazy on both sides to rational middles. Pretty much how society works in general. If people get angry, annoyed, etc. about that fact, that's on them.

What if Ryan Tannehill just torches the Raiders Sunday?

I, for one, will visit here just to watch the carnage.

And please, pretty please, don't start with "No way it happens". In all honesty, I don't think things can get much more ridiculous with this team...so it wouldn't surprise me.
its the raiders...one of 3 teams left on our schedule that we should torch...why not ask What if he torches the packers...that would be impressive...

If he torches either of those teams, it means the coaching staff disregarded the biggest weaknesses of both of those defenses. Don't get me wrong, it would be great if he did torch them, because the pass defense of each is good, but hopefully they plan on running the ball down their throats all day.

What would a good performance against Oakland really prove? Ok so you carved up a bad team, even a middle tier QB would be expected to do that. That's not what I've been saying. I don't think Tannehill is elite caliber and part way through his 3rd year that should be obvious. Is he better than the backup guy, yeah probably. I think the team needs to keep looking for an elite guy because that's really the only way to get consistent play from the position and regular playoff appearances. Having Tannehill play 2 good games and 1 bad one isn't really helping in the long term.

We should be avoiding the passing game not because of their vaunted pass defense (I believe KC was ranked 32 before getting to play us, New England is ranked 1 right now), but because our QB can't pass the ball good. And if you have to adjust your game plan for your own crappy QB play, in a passing league, you're already ****ed.

If Oakland is smart they'll put everything they have into stopping the run. We're going to do the same thing, we're going to force the rookie to beat us, and if he manages to take what we give him and shreds our bare bones passing defense all you can do is give him kudos. It doesn't mean it was a bad plan by us. If Tannehill still won't allow us to take advantage of soft passing defenses going into his 35th start then our biggest mistake was not playing a different QB.

Ickey needs to start working out and lay off the cold cuts

Please don't flame me here.....what makes any of us think were going to even win the game? I'm not for losing for any reason, we should win every game. But I thought we would win last week and that didn't go well.

False hope.

I remember the same talk before the Bills and Chiefs games and we got killed...

I'm just hoping we start off good offensively...We have been slow our last 5 games right out of the gate offensively.
