What is the BEST we can do?

(i'll warn you that I ramble, but it's that smart, catchy kind of rambling you'll come to know and love, but if it puts you to sleep  I apologize.)

Phinfans...

It's not that I don't get all of your predictions, because I do. I'm right there with you. As a 24 year old Dolphins fan of 24 years (and 9 months if you count the time my dad used to read the sports section to me in my mom's tum). I totally understand why you are all looking towards the stars with that gleam in your eye. It's telling you that we "could" go 12-4. It's totally crazy and untrue, but nonetheless you can hope. That's what life is all about. But if you think for even a second that it's possible, then please please please step back from the ledge and put down the Alice and Wonderland "Jesus Juice".

Personally, I blame the shock factor for your reactions. I blame these jokes(predictions) on the fact that we haven't had a losing season in like 12 years and so now for the first year ever, we sucked. It was terrible, I agree. But it happens to everyone and now it's our turn on that ride. But with the moves we have made this year we will be better. There's no denying that. Only thing is, our competition has also improved DRAMATICALLY. Read that sentence again and try your hardest to take the "beer goggles" off. I'm saying all this with Tough Love for my fellow FINHEAVEN compadres only because I want you all to enjoy the progress this season and not relish on the fact that we will "most likely" finish at like 5-11, 6-10, or 7-9. We probably won't make the playoffs...THIS YEAR...but next...WHOOO!...watch out!!!

Was I the only one who saw teams like NE and TB suck for years before they dominated...NE is still dominating because they didn't take the same route as TB. NE invested in good staff and good players and then groomed the system to yield results. TB pretty much assembled an A-list Defense with no future prospects and bought themselves a Superbowl...then back in the toilet immediately. I like to think that we are following in NE footsteps here. We've got some serious seeds in the soil now and WHEN they sprout up it's gonna be like a Jack and the Beanstalk kinda huge. Right now, we just are there. Saban is watering and all and doing his part, but the other teams have just bloomed on us overnight. The Jets (whom I hate with all my heart...a trait I hope to pass on to my kids) lost a lot of close games last year...some of that was due to poor coaching decisions. I think those mistakes will go away and they will be tough. The Bills won like 9 of thier last 12 games. That's on-fire in my book. A couple of their losses were like flukes too, ie...Jacksonville. I'm just stating what I hope is the obvious to all of you, but in the case that it is not, consider this a kind slap in the face to knock the hangover out of your head so that you might be able to rejoice in the great things to come this season.

With all that being said...(I promise I'm almost done...I post rarely, but when I do I like to do it with everything I've got)...I do think a Great coach is worth a couple wins in this league. It's not the same weight as with college, but it does matter simply because there will be a lot of teams that think we still suck and that makes them vulnerable for a little December 20th action (if you don't know what that is then please kick yourself in the balls...we beat NE that day) so there is possibility out there. In addition, with the return of RW in week 5, could mean some more opportunity with Brown and the passing game. A duel attack in the NFL is always great (just look at Philly, Pitt, or KC). And hands down our WR are good, sometimes unbelievably great. Defense is always reliable.

Leaves me with this...I don't think we will win 12 games...no way...no how...I'm sorry, but it's just fact. But I do believe our incredible progress this year will mean this...we will not enter a game this year that we will not hang with the team we are playing against. Hands down...every opponent will have to work hard for that victory, unlike last year where our QB was on the other team for parts of the game. I think we will have a lot of close losses, but that's worth celebrating about. So that's my point in a nutshell. A very large one. :goof:
Really good post, I agree, except I think there will be an improvement of at least 2-3 wins this year, then hopefully continued progress.

The best we can do is win the superbowl like any other team before the season starts.

EXACTLY !!!!!! We could go 16-0 and win the superbowl 72-0 over the Cardinals. Just like the 49ers could go 16-0 and win the SB also. Anything CAN happen. The more important question is what would you be willing to put money on?? It is easy for you people to say we are going 12-4, while you're dreaming just go ahead and say 16-0. It is easy to do while it doesn't cost you anything. Now if a jets or jills fan came on here talking smack and called you out, would you be willing to bet a weeks or months salary on going 12-4?? Yeah thats what I thought, it kinda changes then, huh? :shakeno:
We are not going 12-4 this year. We have a new coach, OC and DC, an old defense, learning a new system, one of the worst OLines in the league and no QB. On top of that we play the single hardest schedule in the league. We have already lost our best CB to KC and have now lost another starting CB for the year to injury. Our best offensive player will miss the first 4 games due to suspension and even then will be questionable as to his state of mind. Our 2nd best player on offense keeps thinking his woman should be smacked around from time to time. We have more questionable character guys on this team, than any team in the league. One or more of these guys will probably add to our problems this year. This is not a team in contention for beating out a loaded AFC for the playoffs. There are just too many good teams this year over here that are further along in the process. We are headed in the right direction, but we have not arrived. Be patient people. It will be worth waiting for when you see players drapped in aqua holding up that SB trophy.....but don't think it is happening this year. IT'S NOT!!!!!

To be fair, in A.J.'s defense, I don't think even Chad Pennington could of put up good numbers behind last seasons O-line. I mean, come on. A.J. shown very little because he didn't get a chance to prove anything. He might as well been playing with only a center in front of him.

I REALLY hate to side with a Jets fan here, but Jay played behind the same OLine and put up better numbers than AJ. Jay is now Chad's backup. Chad may not have put great numbers, but they would have been better than AJ's.

I think we beat Carolina. Thier biggest weakness is against a power Running game. We won't have RW but we'll have Ronnie and Lamar and Morris. We'll be able to set up the deep ball against their secondary. And I think our defense will confuse them, get a lot of pressure on them and create some turnovers and we will win it in a close one.

Actually the Panthers STRENTH is stopping the inside running game. Chris Jenkins is the best DT in the league. He was hurt most of last year and THEN teams were able to run on them some, but I wouldn't say our Oline will be able to open holes against them.
As for us setting up the deep ball, that is a possibility. The panthers have young corners in Gamble, Manning, and Lucas (the starter from the Seahawks) but I can see the Panthers being the SB representive from the NFC. I would definitly not consider them a win.

<snicker> Yeah, right. Jay Fielder is a scrub and doesn't belong anywhere near the NFL. Gus or AJ is easily better than Jay.

Jay has proven that he is WAY better than AJ. Gus is a different story, and only time will tell. Jay as a backup however is a good thing. Only a handful of teams are in better shape and we are most certainly not one of them.

I reported your post because you contribute NOTHING to this forum but hysteria.

Saban had more coaching experience than Carrol when he took this job with the phins than Carroll had when he took the job with the jets.

You lost...like always...all you have is....MIAMI= BAD....NEW YAWK= GOOD. WEAK...go away already...

You guys need to get a room, it really sounds like you have a thing going there. Admit it, your in love.

Greetings...
First post on this board so let me be upfront and tell you guys that I am a Bills fan, but I think we have the greatest rivalry going. I'm not here to troll or bust chops, just have intelligent, fun, football canversation.

You guys are in a rebuild year, it happens to every team, you guys have just been very fortuanate to not have had to experiene it so far. The Dolphins are going to provide you with some awesome plays, some giant frustrations, but hopefully the bottom line is that you will have a good time this year. You've now got a good head coach, the makings of a terrific running game, and a solid defense. It would appear (key word appear) that you have some qb issues so I suspect you guys to be a physical running attack that tries to consume clock. Your situation is very similar to ours last year so I can easily see an 8-8 or 9-7 record this year. If it is better than that I will be suprised. Rebuild...its a pain, but eorth the effort.

I proved my point, I showed your post and what you said then i proved you wrong as usual. Stay in denial all you want but the facts are there. You are only fooling yourself.

Actually it's for you Miami=great and everyone else sucks. I am realistic w/ y team and w/ your team. I never said the dolphins would be 4-12 again, i said they'd be better but not a playoff team. Do i have to fall prey to the nonsenical predictions and predict 12-4 and an AFC East Title? I predicted the Jets to win 10 games, is that out of the question? Don't make yourslef look any sillier than you already have. We know why you reported the post and we know why you tried to log in under my username to have me frozen out.

we go 11-5 get the 5th playoffs spot and lose in the super bowl to the eagles

You call Jet fans dumb and then post this quote?

J-E-T-S suck suck suck.... Jets will now be on the down slide... so will New England with it's personnel and coaching losses. The Bills are going to be a good team but not great, they have more question marks than the Fins do. You'll see Miami go possibly 11-5 at best which coming from where we were isn't that bad. Plus we benefit from a softer schedule then in past years due to the Fin's being so bad last year. Saban already has many tools at his disposal on this team and the best coaching staff in the NFL. Granted QB is our weakest postion but coaching will make the QB position a big upgrade over last year.

As for Fiedler... He has a lot of heart but dosent have the physical tools to do the job. He cant throw a deep ball to save his life and sometimes gets color blind and throws to the wrong color jersey. Especially when the DB had a clear route to the endzone. If Chad goes down again jets will be in last place.

I reall do not see Saban unloading Ricky this year.. Maybe before next year's draft, but keeping him (as long as he remains somwhat normal) in the back field with Brown, Morris, Gordon, Harris and Minor Gives us a very deep RB postion.

Dude you really need to research before posting. The NFL schedule is not like it used to be. The dolphins only have two games out of the 16 that have anything to do with where they finished last year. Those are Tenn, and Cleveland. If you take last years records of wins for all the teams we play this year, the dolphins have the single hardest schedule in the NFL, PERIOD!!!!! So we don't benifit from a softer schedule. Sorry but I thought I should point that out.

I have read every one of your posts in this thread. I must ask you one burning question. How did you become a Jets fan?? On the surface you seem like a level headed guy that has the ability to think, and give a mostly unbiased opinion. You have also dogged sec126 in every point of you guys ongoing argument (not that, that in itself is a great accomplishment). You have answered all the blind homers on here with respect, and insightful replies. So I again must ask, how is it a decent, intelligent person would ever be swayed and blinded into being possessed by the dark side?? You are the kind of fan every team needs. The JETS are the definition of evil. Why don't you slap yourself a few times and get all the cobwebbs out of your head and admit you are really a finfan. Dolphins are kind, nice, loving, God made creatures. Jets are man-made pieces of flying steal that crash and kill hundreds of people at the same time. Jets=death dolphins=intelligent kind peaceful life. Follow the light, it will bring you to the truth

Now on to more important things. I really don't think you guys are gonna be any better than you were last year. You lost a great RT in Kareem and lost a solid DT and had another solid CB retire. Also if you look at rushing champs over the last 10 years, you will notice that it is awefully hard to put back to back great years together. Add to that "my favorite Martin" is getting a little long in the tooth, and I would imagine 1050-1200 yards will be a solid season for him. Penny liked throwing to Coles so he will like having him back, but penny has some trouble staying healthy. Jay is a solid backup but he is not going to take you guys deep in the playoffs. Add to that the schedule you guys play is actually tough than ours if you take away the head to head match up between us.
I do hear that Jolly is tearing it up so far and your new OC uses the TE quite a bit. He made Frank Wychek a pro-bowler, so Jolly will be a go to guy, but the truth is you are a little bit like us. It may take some time for everyone to get on the same page for you guys also. I do like Herman as a coach, he seems to get the most out of his players, although he is not much of an X & Os kinda coach. He leaves that mostly to his cordinators. I know it is hard not to be a homer, as most everyone on this board proves daily, but 10-6 ,although possible, is probably gonna be a game better than you will end up. I was thinking more along the lines of 9-7. The Jills about the same, depending on how JP plays and we will be 7-9 or maybe even 8-8. But give us another year and a QB and we will be playing with the Pats for the division lead.
So since our future is brighter than yours, and it is just the right thing to do, leave the dark side now and venture into the light. Come on over and become a true fins fan, you know its the right thing to do. ;)
