What is the BEST we can do?

Jay has proven that he is WAY better than AJ. Gus is a different story, and only time will tell. Jay as a backup however is a good thing. Only a handful of teams are in better shape and we are most certainly not one of them.

Way better than AJ? Are you talking about last years stats? Jay fielder isn't WAY better than anyone......He will make a decent backup (and should only be used as a backup) but if the jets have to put the game on his shoulders, they are finished. Judging chads poor health track record, we will see fielder's sooner than expected.

And stop hating AJ so much if you are a finfan. AJ looked like garbage last year, but didn't have much to work with.

I agree, I have already predicted that this team will win 9-10 games with the talent it has, but if they gel the right way, pickup the new defense and offense from week 1, finally get Brown in here (...and he picks up the new offense right away), and have no more real major injuries, this team can win 11-13 games, but no more then that.

Personally I think too much has to go right for then to win more then 10, so I am still sticking to 10 wins.

Let's be realistic folks. This is a rebuilding year. When Denver whips our team by 20 points a lot of you are going to fall back to earth. I expect the team to get better & competitive by the end of the season. This will be a fun season, but expect heartaches.

No it's not a rebuilding season. We almost beat Denver last season and that was without Zach. You think Denver will stand a chance against us this season? :shakeno:

I think the better we`ll accomplish is 10-6 though the record will be likely more around .500..We`ll have a tough start, lose some games and become competitive after the half season, it will be late to be better than a wild card

I have read every one of your posts in this thread. I must ask you one burning question. How did you become a Jets fan?? On the surface you seem like a level headed guy that has the ability to think, and give a mostly unbiased opinion. You have also dogged sec126 in every point of you guys ongoing argument (not that, that in itself is a great accomplishment). You have answered all the blind homers on here with respect, and insightful replies. So I again must ask, how is it a decent, intelligent person would ever be swayed and blinded into being possessed by the dark side?? You are the kind of fan every team needs. The JETS are the definition of evil. Why don't you slap yourself a few times and get all the cobwebbs out of your head and admit you are really a finfan. Dolphins are kind, nice, loving, God made creatures. Jets are man-made pieces of flying steal that crash and kill hundreds of people at the same time. Jets=death dolphins=intelligent kind peaceful life. Follow the light, it will bring you to the truth

I thank you for the kind words, maybe you like me b/c I'm a Tar Heel fan

Now on to more important things. I really don't think you guys are gonna be any better than you were last year. You lost a great RT in Kareem and lost a solid DT and had another solid CB retire.

Great is stretching it, he was good but if you recall back in the offseaon heading into '02 everyone was up in arms about losing Ryan Young and how could this kareem McKenzie guy possibly replace him? he did and was as good or better, we have done very well w/ the OL. Last year the questions were at G and Barndon Moore specifiaclly but he turned out well. We have done a great job w/ the Ol in recent years and have a solid vet backup in etha Brooks if he does struggle.

Jason ferguson was a solid DT but he was made to look much better than he is. Dewayne Robertson made him alot of money as he made him look very good. he also played alongside 2 other pro bowlers in Abe & ellis.

At Cb we are solid at RCB but have questions about LCB but we have a few possible solutions including Ty Law who we will most likely sign.

Also if you look at rushing champs over the last 10 years, you will notice that it is awefully hard to put back to back great years together. Add to that "my favorite Martin" is getting a little long in the tooth, and I would imagine 1050-1200 yards will be a solid season for him.

At some point he has to slow down, I don't think he'll come near 1,700 yds again but he'll still be effective. Last year we had no passing game after Chad got hurt and he still put up great #s, this year Chad is halthy(for now) and we have a real OC and upgrade at WR and pass ctaching TE. our passing game will open things up a bit for Curtis and he'll have more room to work w/ and get around 1,300 yds.

I know it is hard not to be a homer, as most everyone on this board proves daily, but 10-6 ,although possible, is probably gonna be a game better than you will end up. I was thinking more along the lines of 9-7. The Jills about the same, depending on how JP plays and we will be 7-9 or maybe even 8-8. But give us another year and a QB and we will be playing with the Pats for the division lead.

that is a fair assessment.

So since our future is brighter than yours, and it is just the right thing to do, leave the dark side now and venture into the light. Come on over and become a true fins fan, you know its the right thing to do

our future is extremely bright, we still have a team that is mostly young or in it's prime. I'm in the light now, there's no need to end up in darkness :D

No he didn't.

How so?? Jay had a higher QB rating than AJ, and played behind the OLine early in the season before they started to come together. You have to remember you can't add all the TDs AJ threw to the other team as TDs. Just b/c someone got 6 pts doesn't mean he should get credit for it as a dolphin TD.

Boy...if I didn't know any better...I would have thought that you were describing the Chargers of last year.

BTW...what are the Jets going to be? 16-0?
Problem in the Chargers had been pretty bad for a long time before that and had accumulated a lot of high draft pick players. The ground work was laid out and that bad year before the great year was an injury related aberration becuase they were on their way up. Our situation is different. We have drafted in the bottom of each round for years and years, alot of our draft picks were duds, and we kept trying to contend so we weren't picks up compensation picks and fleshing out our roster with young players we could teach. Also San Diego was about 30 million under the cap at the end of last season, so they had the cap space to keep Brees and Rivers for another year and not miss a beat. We have Feeley and Gus. Ouch.

I don't hate AJ, I just see him as he is. I guess since you don't think Sage or Brock is NFL starting material, you hate them?? I have seen enough of AJ to know he is not taking us ANYWHERE. The less time we waste on him the quicker we can move on to a QB that can him us become winners.

As for last years stats, Jay had a QB rating of 67, AJ was 61. That is a pretty big jump, when you add when they played. Jays OL was no where near as good as when AJ finished up. I guess you should "stop hating Jay" back when he was a dolphin. The way Jay was treated while he was here is a big part of the reason I "hate" AJ so much. I just wished people would hold them to the same standard.

Don't bring that part up right now. With Felton, May, Marvin, all going pro this is gonna be a long year for my boys in Chapel Hill. Usually I can always count on either Carolina or Miami one, being a power house. This year I may be looking to find me a bridge to jump off by Christmas. :couch:

3 loses INSIDE the division would suck if we went 12-4.

It wouldn't really suck that bad. That would be a split. PLUS, 12-4 would almost surely win our division.

The most we can realistically win? I think 9 games, and we'd only do that by winning all the close games.

I'd be very pleased to finish .500 and end the season with a few wins in a row to let the guys know that the new system is working.
